If the Mother-Cow gives the food called milk directly to us, the Bull (Male Cow) does a great favour to us by ploughing the land for producing greens and food grains. Thus the cattle family does the great job of feeding the entire mankind. So we all should show enormous gratitude and devotion to the Cattle family. Jaya Jaya Sankara Hara Hara Sankara – As Shri Mahesh mentioned we rescued two native breed Gho
Mathas last month. By Sri Periyavas grace, in continuation of our cow rescue efforts,  we rescued two young native bulls this weekend from a village near Shollinganallur. They were about to be sold for slaughter when we pitched in, negotiated a price and bought them. The bulls have been transported and are now safely residing in Madras Pinjarapole, Ayanavaram. Below are some of the pictures for your viewing pleasure right from where they were picked up all the way to them dropped off at Pinjarapole.

A word about Cow rescue:

The rescue efforts are pretty emotional depending on how one sees it. The cows in this area mostly live on the streets. It does not matter whether it is scorching sun or rain/thunderstorms beating down. They eat whatever they get on the roadside, garbage and lead their lives. Of course, they do have a owner who keeps a watch on them but it is purely from a commercial aspect. Cows get some respite, in the sense that, once they deliver they are bought home and tied up for milking purposes. Once the milking stops they are left on the streets again. The condition of bulls are far more pathetic. These bulls are ‘Parama Sadhu’ and would run away from you even when you approach them for giving fruits. Such is the fear that man has instilled on these poor creatures….Also from day one of their birth they live on the streets and rarely go to owners home. Even if they do they are driven back to the streets. No home feeding, no medical checkup, no bath, etc.  They are let grow for around three years so they gain weight and the owner sells them to abattoir. Such is the status quo of the cows/bulls here.

In our case, the bulls we rescued were brought over from the street to the owner’s home and was tied up the previous night so we could pick them early next morning. They were restless the whole night and did not even sit since this is the first time they were tied up in their lives. When they saw us in the morning with the truck and ropes they panicked and started trembling. You could see and sense the angst in their eyes when they were on-boarded in the truck (after a bit of struggle). Over the whole journey they were passing urine and dung frequently in fear. The travel time to gosala is 1.5 hrs and two bulls in a mini truck is a pretty comfortable ride. If this itself is tough for us to take imagine the plight of tens and hundreds of cows bundled and slammed in a lorry with chilies in their eyes and travelling to Kerala for close to 10-12 hrs. Absolutely brutal!!

Per our Periyava’s wish, we will do our best and continue to rescue as many cows/bulls possible and share with you the tips and tricks of cow buying and rescue. Right now we are doing 2 cows per month but with close to 8000 devotees following the blog we could do a lot better than just 2 per month. All we need is your support to make this happen and sustain.
