பசுவின் முகத்தில் மஞ்சள் குங்குமமிட்டு கொம்பிலே குஞ்சலம் கட்டி, கழுத்திலே மாலைகள் போட்டு மணிகள் கட்டினால் பார்க்க ரொம்ப அழகாகத்தானிருக்கிறது. நமக்குப் பல தினுஸில் உபகாரம் பண்ணும் பசுவைப் போற்றுவதில் psychological satisfaction இருப்பது போல இப்படி அந்த கோமாதாவை அலங்காரம் பண்ணிப் பார்ப்பதில் artistic satisfaction [கலையுணர்வுத் திருப்தி] -ம் உண்டாகிறது. ஆனாலும் பசுவுக்கு அர்ச்சனை பண்ணுவது என்றால் அப்போது அதன் முகத்திலே பண்ணாமல் பிருஷ்ட பாகத்திலே [வால் புறத்திலே] தான் அர்ச்சிக்க வேண்டும். நமக்கு அது பிடிக்கிறதா, பிடிக்கவில்லையா, இப்படிப் பண்ணுவதற்குக் காரணம் உண்டா, இல்லையா என்ற கேள்விக்கு இடமில்லை. இப்போது நமக்கு ஒவ்வொன்றாகக் காரணம் தெரிகிற அநேக ஆசார விதிகளை ஏற்படுத்தின ரிஷிகள், காரணமில்லாமலா, ‘பசுவின் முகத்தில் பூஜை பண்ணாதே, பின்பக்கம் பண்ணு; அங்கேதான் லக்ஷ்மி வாஸம் பண்ணுகிறாள்’என்று சொல்வார்கள்? நம்பிப் பண்ண வேண்டும். அப்போது அங்கே வாஸம் பண்ணும் லக்ஷ்மி தெரிவாள். – ஜகத்குரு ஸ்ரீ சந்திரசேகரேந்திர சரஸ்வதி ஸ்வாமிகளின் அருள் மொழிகள்
When we adorn the cow by applying turmeric kumkum on her forehead, garlanding and decorating her horns, she looks beautiful. There is a psychological satisfaction in glorifying the Mother-Cow who bestows so many benefits upon us. We also derive an artistic satisfaction in beautifying the cow. But while performing archana to the Gomatha (worshipping her with flowers and chants) we are supposed to do so not facing her but to her backside. There is no question of our like or dislike in doing so and no seeking the reasons too. The sages who devised many rules of conduct would not have done so without sufficient reason and declared that Goddess Lakshmi resided in the backside of a cow.
