ஜன்மாப்படி வாய்த்த ஒரு ஸமயாசாரத்தில் இருந்து கொண்டே வேறொரு ஸித்தாந்தில் முன்னேற முடியும் என்பது வெறும் possibility தானா? யதார்த்தத்தில் அப்படிக் காட்ட முடியுமா? காட்டினால்தானே நம்பிக்கை வரும்? காட்டமுடியும். ஏ.வி. கோபாலாசாரியார் என்று ஒருவர் இருக்கிறார். வைஷ்ணவ ஸம்ப்ரதாயப்படிதான் எல்லாம் செய்து வருகிறார். வைஷ்ணவ ஸித்தாந்தத்துக்குமேகூட நிறையத் தொண்டு செய்து வருகிறார். நல்ல பாண்டித்யம் உள்ளவர். வித்வத் ஸதஸுகள் நடத்துகிறார். ஆனாலும் நம்முடைய [சங்கர] ஆசார்ய பாஷ்யங்களிலும் அத்வைதத்திலும் அபாரமான பற்று வைத்திருக்கிறார். ராமகிருஷ்ணா மிஷனோடு நெருங்கி ஸம்பந்தப்பட்டிருந்தாலும் ‘அண்ணா’ என்கிறவர் வைதிகாசாரங்களின்படியே அநுஷ்டானம் செய்து வருகிறார். இங்கே வர ஆரம்பித்திருக்கிற வெள்ளைக்காரர்களையே பார்த்தால், சர்ச்சுக்குப் போய்க் கொண்டுதான் இருக்கிறார்கள், க்றைஸ்டிடம்தான் நிறைந்த பக்தி வைத்திருக்கிறார்கள். ஆனாலும் [அத்வைத] வேதாந்தத்திலேயே விச்வாஸமுடையவர்களாக இருக்கிறார்கள். Converse -ஆக இந்த ஸ்மார்த்த மடத்தில் விதிக்கப்பட்டிருக்கிறபடி ஆசார, அநுஷ்டானங்களை நன்றாகச் செய்து கொண்டே, என்னிடம் அபிமானம் மரியாதையும், ஆசார்யாளிடம் பக்தியும் செலுத்திக்கொண்டே, ஆனாலும் என்னிடமே, “நீங்கள் என்னதான் சொன்னாலும் எங்களுக்கு அத்வைதத்தைவிட பக்திதான் பிடிச்சிருக்கு; அம்பாள் பூஜைதான் பிடிச்சிருக்கு; அவளே ‘அத்வைதமாக ஐக்யம் பண்ணிக் கொண்டு விடுகிறேன்’ என்று சொன்னால்கூட, ‘வேண்டாம்! உன் பக்திதான் வேண்டும்’ என்றுதான் சொல்ல வேண்டும் போலிருக்கிறது என்று சொல்கிறவர்களும் இருக்கிறார்கள். இதுவும் எந்த ஒரு ஸமயாசாரமும் ஒரு தனி மநுஷ்யரின் ஸித்தாந்தத்துக்கு பாதகமாகச் செய்து விடவில்லை என்பதற்கு நிரூபணமாகிறது. – ஜகத்குரு ஸ்ரீ சந்திரசேகரேந்திர சரஸ்வதி ஸ்வாமிகளின் அருள் மொழிகள்

A doubt may arise whether a person can progress in his philosophical journey (different from that of his ancestors) continuing to observe the traditional practices which have come to him by virtue of his birth. Is it practically feasible? The possibility can be believed only if it is demonstrated practically. There is a person called A.V.Gopalachariyar who observes the Vaishnavite traditions and is even doing a lot of service Vaishnavite philosophy. He is a very knowledgeable person who also arranges discussions and deliberations by scholars (Vidwat Sadas). But he is greatly attached to Sankara Bashyams (interpretations of religious and philosophical works by Sri Adi Sankara) and Adwaitam. There is another person called ‘Anna’ who continues to observe the Vedic traditions though he is greatly involved with the Ramakrishna Mission.  Let us take the instances of Westerners who have started to come here. They continue to go to the church and have a great devotion to Christ. But they have great belief in Adwaita philosophy. Let us take a converse case. There are people who observe the traditions and rituals prescribed by this Smaartha Mutt and are greatly attached and respectful towards me and greatly devoted to Acharya. But even they admit to me that they like devotion (Bakthi) and Ambal Pooja (worship of the Mother Goddess) better than Adwaita. They state that even if Ambal offers them to gather them onto her in an Advaitic way (non-dualistically), they feel like stating that they prefer devotion to Her.
