I think Adishankara compiled this sloka to describe His own avatar in Mahaperiyava roopa – who else would fit perfectly in these five slokas – word by word?!
Kaupina Panchakam by Sri Adi Shankaracharya
Vedantha Vakhyeshu Sada ramantho, Bhikshannamathrena trishtimantha, Vishokamantha karane charantha, Kaupeenavantha Khalu bhaghyavantha -1Who is reveling in the thoughts of Vedantic declarations, Whom does a meager portion of begged-food satisfy, Who is walking around without a trace of sorrow The man with just the loincloth is indeed the lucky one. -1 Moolam tharo kevalam ashrayantha, Who rests (sleeps) at the roots of a tree, Swananda bhava pari thushti mantha, Always contented in the joy of ones own self Dehadhi bhavam parivarthayantha, Always witnessing the changes of his own body, Brahmaksharam pavanamucharantho, Always singing the sacred glory of Brahman, the eternal |
Thank you very much for the rare photo of Mahaperiyava with a perfect description.
Pranam.
Ramana Bhagavan
So lovely. Sarveshwara.
Your postings are very nice giving us lot of information about Mahaperiyava. It will be more useful if the verses (Slokams ) are given in Devanagari script.
