பெரியவா சரணம் !!

“அதோ நிற்கிறாளே…ஒரு..மாமி, அவாகிட்டே இந்தப் புடவையைக் கொடு…..தீபாவளி புதுப் புடவையை வண்டிக்காரனுக்குக் கொடுத்துட்டு பழசைக் கட்டிண்டு நிற்கிறா”

தீபாவளி தினம், ஒரு குதிரை வண்டிக்காரன் வந்து பெரியவாளுக்கு நமஸ்காரம் செய்துவிட்டுக் கையைப் பிசைந்து கொண்டு நின்றான்.

‘என்ன’ என்று ஜாடையால் கேட்டார்கள்,பெரியவா.

“வேட்டி…” என்று இழுத்தான்,வண்டிக்காரன்.

பெரியவாள்,பக்கத்திலிருந்த சிஷ்யரிடம், “அவனுக்கு ஒரு வேஷ்டி-துண்டு கொடு” என்றார்கள்.

சிஷ்யர் வேஷ்டி-துண்டு கொண்டு வந்து கொடுத்த பின்னர் வண்டிக்காரன் நகரவில்லை.

“சம்சாரத்துக்குப் பொடவை…”

அந்தச் சமயத்தில், புடவை ஏதும் கையிருப்பில் இல்லை. ஆனால், பெரியவாளோ,” அவனுக்கு ஒரு புடவை கொண்டு வந்து கொடு” என்று சிஷ்யனுக்கு ஆக்ஞையிட்டார்கள். சிஷ்யர் பாடு திண்டாட்டமாகப் போய்விட்டது.

பெரியவாள் தரிசனத்துக்காகப் பல பேர் வந்திருந்தார்கள். அவர்களில் ஓர் அம்மாள், தொண்டரின் இக்கட்டைப் புரிந்து கொண்டார். உடனே, சற்றுத் தொலைவில் ஒரு மறைவான இடத்துக்குச் சென்று,தான் கட்டிக் கொண்டிருந்த புதுப் புடவையைக் களைந்து விட்டு,ஒரு பழைய புடவையைக் கட்டிக்கொண்டு வந்தார்.அந்தப் புதுப் புடவையையும் சீட்டி ரவிக்கைத் துண்டையும் வண்டிக்காரனிடம் கொடுத்து அனுப்பி விட்டார்.

பெரியவாளுக்கு உடம்பெல்லாம் கண்கள் போலும். புடவை மாற்று விவகாரம் அவர்களுக்குத் தெரிந்து விட்டது. சற்றைக்கெல்லாம் ஒரு தம்பதி தரிசனத்துக்கு வந்தார்கள். “பெண்ணுக்குக் கல்யாணம்,..பெரியவா அனுக்ரஹம் பண்ணணும்..”

“கல்யாணப் புடவைகள், காஞ்சிபுரம் கடைத் தெருவிலே வாங்கினேளா?”

“ஆமாம்,..கூறைப் புடவை, சம்பந்திக்குப் புடவை, பந்துக்களுக்குப் புடவைன்னு.. ஏகப்பட்ட புடவைகள்…”

“பந்துக்களுக்குன்னு வாங்கியிருக்கிற புடவையிலே ஒரு புடவையை ஸ்ரீ மடத்துக்குக் கொடுப்பியோ?”

தம்பதிக்கு மகிழ்ச்சி கரை புரண்டது.பெரியவாளே கேட்கிறா.. உயர்ந்த புடவை ஒன்றை பெரியவாள் திரு முன்னிலையில் சமர்ப்பித்தார்கள்.

தொண்டரைக் கூப்பிட்டு, “அதோ நிற்கிறாளே…ஒரு..மாமி, அவாகிட்டே இந்தப் புடவையைக் கொடு…..தீபாவளி புதுப் புடவையை வண்டிக்காரனுக்குக் கொடுத்துட்டு பழசைக் கட்டிண்டு நிற்கிறா….” என்றார்கள்,பெரியவாள்.

“தனியே, ரகசியமாக நடந்த அந்தச் சம்பவத்தை எந்த யட்சிணி போய் பெரியவா திருச்செவியில் போட்டது?” என்று ஆச்சர்யப்பட்டுப்போனார், சிஷ்யர்.

ஆமாம் அந்த அம்மையாரும்தான்!

Periyava Charanam!!

“Give this saree to the mami over there, she has given her new Deepavali saree to the cart driver and she is wearing an old saree.”

It was Deepavali. A horse cart driver came to Sri Matam and prostrated in front of Mahaperiyava and stood there as if he wanted to ask something from Periyava.

Mahaperiyava signaled and asked ‘What do you want?’

The cart driver hesitantly asked for a dhothi (veshti).

Mahaperiyava asked one of the Sri Matam sishyas to give him a dhothi and towel.

The sishya brought and gave him a dhothi and towel, but, he did not move from there and asked for a saree for his wife.

There was no stock of sarees, but, Mahaperiyava ordered the sishya to bring a saree for him. The sishya did not know what to do.

There were lot of people who were waiting in line to have Mahaperiyava’s dharshan. One lady, who was standing in line understood the situation of the Sri Matam sishya. Immediately, she went to a secluded place at a distance and changed herself into an old saree that she had brought with her. She folded the new saree and along with a blouse piece, they gave the new saree to the horse cart driver.

Mahaperiyava knew what had happened. He knew about the exchange of saree. In few minutes, a couple came for Mahaperiyava’s dharshan. They had brought their daughter’s wedding invitation along with them and asked Mahaperiyava to bless their daughter’s wedding.

Mahaperiyava asked them, “Do you buy wedding sarees in Kanchipuram”?

They replied,” Yes, we bought many sarees – koorai pudavai, sarees for in-laws and other relatives.”

Mahaperiyava asked them,”Can you give one of the sarees that you bought for your relatives to Sri Matam?”

The couple were very happy to hear this and kept an expensive saree in front of Mahaperiyava.

Mahaperiyava called another sishya and said, “Give this saree to the mami who is standing over there. She gave her new Deepavali saree to the horse cart driver and is wearing an old saree”.

The sishya was very surprised how Mahaperiyava knew about this since this did not happen in front of Maha Periyava .  The lady was also very surprised. Which divine force put this message on Maha Periyava ears?!!
