“கோரைப் பாயும் கோரமான பாயும்”.

 

(‘எனக்குக் கோரைப்பாய்தான் ஆனந்தமா இருக்கு. இலவம் பஞ்சு மெத்தை உறுத்தும். அதில் படுத்தால் எனக்குத் தூக்கம் வராது. கோரைப் பாயைத் தவிர மற்றதெல்லாம் கோரமான பாய்!”)

 

புத்தகம்-காஞ்சி மகான் தரிசனம்.

 

மகா பெரியவாள் பகலில் படுத்துக் கொள்வது என்பது மிகவும் அபூர்வமான நிகழ்ச்சி. பின்னாட்களில், உபவாசம் அதிகமானபோது உடலில் சக்தி குறையவே, சிறிது நேரமாவது படுக்கையில் உடலைக் கிடத்துவது தவிர்க்க முடியாததாகி விட்டது.

 

கோரைப் பாயில்தான் பெரியவாள் படுத்துக் கொள்வார்கள். அடியார்களுக்குத் தரிசனம் கொடுப்பதும் அதே நிலையில்தான். பெரியவாள் படுத்துக் கொண்டிருந்தால், பக்தர்கள் நமஸ்காரம் செய்யக்கூடாது என்று ஒரு நியதி.

 

பெரியவாளின் சரீரம் மிகவும் மிருதுவானது. கோரையால் ஆன பாயில், ஒரு துணியைக் கூட விரித்துக் கொள்ளாமல் படுத்திருந்து விட்டு எழுந்தால், முதுகுப் புறத்தில் பாயின் பதிவு நன்றாகத் தெரியும்.

 

சுந்தரராமன், பெரியவாள் உடம்பில் பாயின் பதிவைக் கண்டு கலங்கிப் போய் விட்டார். இந்த முரட்டுப் பாயில் ஏன் படுக்கணும்? இலவம் பஞ்சு மெத்தையில் படுத்துக் கொள்ளக் கூடாதா?

 

எவரிடமும் ஆலோசனை கேட்கவில்லை, அவர். பிரசாதம் பெற்றுக் கொண்டு சென்னை திரும்பியதும் மெத்தை – தலையணை கடைக்குத்தான் போனார்.

 

இரண்டே நாட்கள். இலவம் பஞ்சு மெத்தை தயார். வெல்வெட் மேற்பரப்பு. ஸ்ரீமடத்திற்குள், தானே தூக்கிக் கொண்டு வந்தார். நெஞ்சில் படபடப்பு. நடையில் பரபரப்பு. ‘பெரியவா, இப்போதே இதில் படுத்துக் கொள்ளணும்’, ‘ரொம்ப சுகமா இருக்கு’ன்னு சொல்லணும். பெரியவாள் முன் மெத்தையை வைத்தார்.

 

தொண்டர் பாலு, ”நம்ம சுந்தரராமன், பெரியவா படுத்துக்கிறதுக்கு மெத்தை வாங்கிண்டு வந்திருக்கார். பெரியவா கோரைப் பாயில் படுக்கறது அவரை உறுத்தித்தாம்.”

 

மெத்தையை அருகில் கொண்டு வரச் சொல்லி பெரியவாள் தடவிப் பார்த்தார்கள். சுந்தரராமன் அமுதவாரியில் நனைந்து கொண்டிருந்தார். ‘பெரியவா இனிமேல் இதில்தான் படுத்துக் கொள்வா. இனிமேல், முதுகில் பாய்த் தழும்பு தெரியாது!’

 

”வழவழன்னு இருக்கே….”

 

”ஆமாம்…. மேலே வெல்வெட் துணி போட்டிருக்கு.”

 

இரண்டு நிமிடங்கள். இரண்டு வருடங்களாகச் சென்றன.

 

”பீஷ்மருக்காக அர்ஜுனன் ஒரு படுக்கை தயார் பண்ணினான். என்ன படுக்கை, தெரியுமோ?”

 

”அம்புப் படுக்கை.”

 

”அதுதான் அவருக்கு சுகமா இருந்தது. தேவலோகப் படுக்கை வேணும்னு பீஷ்மர் சொல்லிலியிருந்தால், இந்திரனே ஒரு படுக்கையை அனுப்பி வைத்திருப்பான்.”

 

மெளனம்.

 

”அதோ நிற்கிறாரே… ரொம்ப விருத்தர்… எண்பது வயசுக்கு மேலே… விவசாயி… வாங்கின கடனைக் கூட அடைக்க முடியலையாம். ராத்திரி தூக்கமே வர மாட்டேங்கறதாம்.”

 

மெளனம்.

 

”இந்த மெத்தையை அவர்கிட்டே கொடு…. ரெண்டு தலகாணியும் போர்வையும் வாங்கிக் கொடு, கொஞ்ச நாளாவது நிம்மதியாக தூங்கட்டும்.”

 

சுந்தரராமன் முகத்தில் ஒரு சலனமும் இல்லை. பெரியவா உத்தரவிட்டால் அது பரமேசுவரன் உத்தரவு. தலையணை, போர்வை வாங்கிக் கொடுத்து விட்டு வந்தார்.

 

‘எனக்குக் கோரைப்பாய்தான் ஆனந்தமா இருக்கு. இலவம் பஞ்சு மெத்தை உறுத்தும். அதில் படுத்தால் எனக்குத் தூக்கம் வராது. கோரைப் பாயைத் தவிர மற்றதெல்லாம் கோரமான பாய்!”

 

எளிமையின் இலக்கணம் மகா சுவாமிகள்.

____________________________________________________________________________Korai Paayum Goramana Paayum(I like korai mat.  The silk cotton (ilavam panju) mattress is irritating and I cannot sleep on that mattress.  I prefer only Korai mat.  Other types of mat are irritating).Very rarely Maha Periyaval used to lie down and rest in the afternoons.  Of course, in the later days, as his fasting increased, strength was reducing.  So he was forced to rest for a while in the afternoons.

Periyaval used to lie down only on the korai mat and give darshan to the devotees in the same position.  Devotees were requested not to prostrate while Periyaval was lying down.

Periyaval’s skin was very soft.  One could easily see the mat marks on his back as he used to lie down on the mat without spreading any cloth.

Once, devotee Sundararaman saw the mat marks on Periyaval’s back and was very disturbed.  He thought “Why Periyava should lie on this rough mat?  Why can’t he lie on the silk cotton mattress?”

He did not discuss about this with anyone.  He took prasadam and returned to Chennai.  Upon his return to Chennai, he went to a bedding shop first.  A nice silk cotton mattress stitched with velvet cloth was ready within two days.  He carried the mattress himself and entered into Srimutt.  He was so excited and thought “Periyava should lie on this mattress now itself and say it is nice”.

He kept the mattress in front of Periyava.  Volunteer Balu stood next to Periyava and said “Our Sundararaman has brought a mattress for Periyava.  He feels very disturbed when he looks at Periyava lying on the Korai mat.”

Periyava asked him to bring the mattress near and touched it.  Sundararaman was immensely happy. He was sure Periyava will lie down on this mattress and there will not be any more mat marks at his back.

Periyava said “This is very smooth”.

“Yes Periyava.  The top cover is made of velvet material”.  There was silence for two minutes but it appeared to be much longer than two minutes.

Periyava continued:

“Arjuna prepared a bed for Bhishma.   Do you know what sort of bed it is?”

“Arrow of bed”.

“Yes.  That is the one gave him peace.  If he wanted a bed from devaloka also, Indira would have sent one immediately”.

There was silence again.

“Look.  Can you see an elderly man standing there?  He is over 80 years and a farmer.  He is not able to settle his debt and cannot sleep”.

Silence continued.

“You give this mattress to him.  Also buy a pillow and a blanket.  Let him sleep peacefully for some days at least.”

Sundararaman heard Periyava’s words.  Periyava’s order was like order from Lord Parameswara himself.  Isn’t it?  Immediately Sundararaman bought a pillow and blanket and gave it to the farmer.

Periyava commented “I like korai mat.  The silk cotton (ilavam panju) mattress is irritating and I cannot sleep on that mattress.  I prefer only Korai mat.  Other types of mat are irritating).
