சாஸ்திரோக்தமாக ஸாதாரண ஜனங்கள் என்னென்ன கர்மா செய்ய வேண்டுமோ அவற்றையெல்லாம் ஞானியே மாடலாக இருந்து பண்ணிக் காட்டி, அவர்களையும் பண்ண வைக்க வேண்டும். அவனுடைய ஞானத்தையும் பக்தியையும் அப்புறந்தான் அவர்களுக்கு கொடுக்க வேண்டும். இப்போது அவர்களுக்கு அதில் ருசி வராது. அதனால் முதலில் அவர்கள் சாஸ்திரோக்த கர்மாக்களைப் பண்ணுவதற்கே, தன்னளவில் அவற்றைக் கடந்துவிட்ட ஞானியும் (ஞானி என்றால் பக்திமானும் தான்) இவற்றைச் செய்து ஊக்குவிக்க வேண்டும். அவர்கள் இவன் மாதிரி ஆவதற்காகவே முதலில் அவர்கள் மாதிரி இவன் ஆக வேண்டும். மேல்நிலையில் இருக்கிற அவன் வாஸ்தவத்தில் கர்மாவில் ஒட்டாவிட்டாலும் அப்படி நடக்க வேண்டும். (இதற்கு நேர்மாறாகத்தான் இப்போது நிஜமாக வேதாந்தத்தில் ஒட்டிக் கொண்டிருந்தவர்களும் அப்படி நடிக்கிறார்கள்!). அப்படியானால் ஞானிக்கு மட்டும் உள்ளன்றும் புறமொன்றுமாக இருக்கிற “மித்யாசார தோஷம்” ஒட்டாதா?

ஒட்டாது. வாஸ்தவத்தில்தான் அவனுக்கு உள் – புறம் என்ற பேதமேயில்லையே! எதிலும் ஒட்டாத நிலைதானே ஞானம்? அதில் தோஷம் மட்டும் எப்படி ஒட்டும்? இன்னொரு எக்ஸ்ப்ளனேஷன்: இவன் வேதாந்தி-வேஷம் போடுகிறவனைப் போலத் தன்னைப் பற்றி லோகம் உசத்தியாக நினைக்க வேண்டுமென்றா துராசையில் இப்படிச் செய்கிறான்? கர்மாவைச் செய்யப் பிடிக்காத அடங்காக் குணத்தாலே அவன் ஞானி வேஷம் போடுகிறானென்றால், இவனோ நிச்சிந்தையான நிஷ்க்ரிய ஞான நிலையின் நிம்மதிலேயே தான் பாட்டுக்குக் கிடக்கலாம் என்றில்லாமல் பாமர ஜனங்களிடம் பரம கருணையாலல்லவா கர்மி மாதிரித் தன்னைக் குறைத்துக் காட்டிக் கொண்டு, தனக்கு வேண்டியேயில்லாத கார்யங்களை இழுத்துப் போட்டுக்கொள்கிறான்? இது தியாகமே தவிர, மித்யாசாரமாக எப்படி ஆகும்? – ஜகத்குரு ஸ்ரீ சந்திரசேகரேந்திர சரஸ்வதி ஸ்வாமிகளின் அருள்மொழிகள்

The enlightened one should serve as a model for the rest of the populace for the rituals they have to perform – he should perform these rituals in the prescribed manner and induce them to perform accordingly. He should inspire them with his knowledge and devotion only afterwards. Now they will not have any taste for knowledge or devotion. So the enlightened one (this includes the Gnani as well as the Bakthimaan or the great devotee) who has indeed crossed this stage of rituals should encourage the rest of the populace to perform these rituals. He should become like them (act) in order to make them become like him. He who occupies a sublime status, unattached to any karmas or action, should still perform these actions. But, nowadays, those who are apparently Vedantists or philosophers act in a similar manner. So how will the Gnani escape from the failing of ‘Mityachaaraa’ or hypocrisy?

The enlightened one has no distinction of the exterior and the interior. He is above all attachments. So how can this sin of hypocrisy cling to him? There is another explanation. Unlike the hypocrite philosopher, the enlightened one does not act so with the wrong desire to achieve worldly fame or due to an incapability of subjecting himself to a proper discipline of rituals. Instead of remaining himself peacefully in a desire less, action less state, he comes down to the level of a ‘Karmi’ (the action oriented one) and performs these (unnecessary as far as he is concerned) actions out of a great compassion for the rest of the mankind.
