Anything good to do with Gho Matha has a very special place for Sri Periyava. This incident emphasizes that. We can take cue from this experience, get pure cow dung cakes (native breed) and give it to Sri Madam and other Veda Patasalas for Vaidheeka Karmas. This will also support/encourage Gosalas who breed native cows. Won’t this please Periyava more than other material offerings? ஒரு வரட்டி ஒரு கோடி பெறுமோ?

(“மாட்டுக் கொட்டிலில் இருந்து பசுஞ்சாணி எடுத்து, வரட்டி தட்டு. காய வைத்துக் கொண்டுவந்து கொடு. மடத்திலே தினமும் ஹோமம் நடக்கிறது. சுத்தமான பசுஞ்சாணி வரட்டி உபயோகப்படுத்தணும். அந்த நல்ல கார்யத்தை நீ செய்யேன்…”)

ஏழையான கிழவி. அவளுக்கு மகேஸ்வரனைத் தெரியாது. மஹாபெரியவாளைத் தான் தெரியும்.

தினமும் வந்து வந்தனம் செய்வாள்.

பல செல்வந்தர்கள், பெரியவாளுக்குக் காணிக்கையாக, விலையுயர்ந்த பொருட்களைக் கொண்டுவந்து சமர்ப்பணம் செய்வதைப் பார்த்து, ‘தன்னால் எதுவும் செய்ய முடியவில்லையே’ என்று ஏங்கினாள்.

ஒருநாள் மனமுருகி பெரியவாளிடம் சொல்லி விட்டாள்.

பெரியவாள் சொன்னார்கள் :

“அவர்கள் கொண்டுவந்து கொடுக்கிற எந்தப் பொருளையும் நான் தொடுவதுகூட இல்லை; நான் ஆசைப்பட்டுக் கேட்டதும் இல்லை; என் மனசுக்குப் பிடிக்குமான்னும் அவா நினைச்சுப் பார்த்ததில்லே! எனக்குப் பிடிச்ச ஒரு வேலை சொல்றேன், செய்கிறாயா?”

பாட்டி தவிப்போடு காத்து நின்றாள்.

“மாட்டுக் கொட்டிலில் இருந்து பசுஞ்சாணி எடுத்து, வரட்டி தட்டு. காய வைத்துக் கொண்டுவந்து கொடு. மடத்திலே தினமும் ஹோமம் நடக்கிறது. சுத்தமான பசுஞ்சாணி வரட்டி உபயோகப்படுத்தணும். அந்த நல்ல கார்யத்தை நீ செய்யேன்…”

பாட்டியின் கண்களில் ஆனந்தக் கண்ணீர்!

கோடிகளைப் புறக்கணிக்கும் பெரியவாள், வரட்டிகளைக் கேட்டு வாங்கிக் கொள்கிறார் – ஒரு பாட்டியிடமிருந்து.

ஒரு வரட்டி ஒரு கோடி பெறுமோ?

Is one cow dung cake worth a crore rupees?

There used to be a very poor, old woman, who knew nothing about Lord Maheswara but only knew Maha Periavaa.  She visited Maha Periavaa daily and paid her obeisance to him.   While on her visits, she used to observe many rich people offering several costly and valuable items to Maha Periavaa when they came for his darshan and feel agonized and helpless over her inability to make similar offerings.

Feeling bad and unable to restrain herself, finally, one day she expressed her anxiety to Maha Periavaa.

Maha Periavaa replied to her that he neither touched any of those offerings made by them nor he had desired that they should give.  Those people have never even thought whether he liked what they were doing and approved of their actions.

He then asked the old lady whether she would do a job for him which he really wanted.

The old lady was thrilled and waited anxiously to Periavaa’s command.

Maha Periavaa told her that for performing homams in the Mutt, pure, fresh cow dung cakes were required and therefore asked her to prepare the cakes out of the fresh dung available in the cow shed, dry them and bring it for use in the Homams. He asked her whether she would render this good deed for him.

The old lady was visibly moved and shed tears of joy.

Its truly amazing, Maha Periavaa, who did not desire any of the valuable offerings of the rich, preferred to seek and take cow dung cakes from a poor old woman.

Is it not true that one cow dung cake is worth more than a crore rupees?
