பகுதி 4- ஆறு வருடங்கள் பாத யாத்திரை.——தொடர்ச்சி.
மஹாராஷ்டிராவில் பெரியவா மஹாகாவ்(ங்) என்ற ஒரு குக்கிராமத்தில் சுமார் எட்டு மாதங்கள் முகாமிட்டிருந்தார். நான் பலமுறைகள் அங்கு சென்று பெரியவாளைத் தரிசனம் செய்திருக்கிறேன்.
ஒருநாள், மஹாகாவுக்குச் சென்று திரும்பிய ஒரு பக்தர் எனக்குத் தொலைபேசியில், மஹாபெரியவா என்னை அங்கு வரச் சொன்னதாகக் கூறினார். உடனே நான் குல்பர்கா ரயிலில் ஏறி (சென்னை—பாம்பே வழி) அங்கிருந்து பஸ்ஸில் மஹாகாவை காலை 9 மணிக்கு அடைந்தேன்.
இரும்பு கிரில் போட்டிருந்த ஒரு சிறிய வீட்டில் அவர் இருந்தார். ஸ்ரீகண்டன் உள்ளேயும் பாலு வெளியேயும் நின்றுகொண்டிருந்தனர். சில பக்தர்களும் இருந்தனர். நான் பெரியவாளை நமஸ்கரித்து எழுந்தேன். பின் வரும் சம்பாஷணை தொடர்ந்தது:–
பெரியவா:—-“ஸ்ரீகண்டா ! சந்த்ரமௌளீ எதுக்கு இன்னிக்கு இங்க வந்திருக்கான்னு ஒனக்குத் தெரியுமா?”
ஸ்ரீகண்டன்:—– “தெரியாது பெரிவா….”
பெரியவா:—- பாலு! ஒனக்குத் தெரியுமா அவன் எதுக்கு வந்திருக்கான்னு? “
பாலு:—–“தெரியாது பெரிவா!”
பெரியவா:—எல்லாரும் கொஞ்சம் வெயிட் பண்ணுங்கோ; நான் எதுக்கு அவனைக் கூப்பிட்டிருக்கேன்னு சொல்றேன்.”
சில நிமிஷங்களுக்கெல்லாம், ஒரு தபால் ஊழியர் ஒரு கடிதத்தைக் கொண்டுவந்து பாலுவிடம் கொடுத்தார். பெரியவா உள்ளே உட்கார்ந்திருந்தார்; நாங்களெல்லாம் ஒரு 15 அடி தள்ளி வெளியே நின்றுகொண்டிருந்தோம்.
பெரியவா பாலுவை அந்த கடிதத்தைப் பிரித்து எல்லோருக்கும் கேட்கும்படியாகப் படிக்கச் சொன்னார். கடிதம் ஸ்ரீரங்கம் ஜீயரிடமிருந்து பெரியவாளுக்கு எழுதப்பட்டிருந்தது. அதில் ஸ்ரீரங்கம் ராஜகோபுரம் கட்டுவதற்கு நிறைய நன்கொடைகள் வசூலானதற்குப் பெரியவா செய்த உதவிக்கு நன்றி தெரிவித்திருந்தார். பாலு நான்கு பாராக்கள் படித்தபின், பெரியவா படிப்பதை நிறுத்திவிட்டு, என்னிடம் கூறினார், “அடுத்த விஷயம் உனக்குத் தொடர்புள்ளது…”
பாலு படிக்கத்தொடங்கினார். ஐந்தாவது பாராவில், இந்த மிகப்பெரிய (ராஜகோபுரம் கட்டும்) பணிக்கு வரும் நன்கொடைகளுக்கு வருமானவரியிலிருந்து விலக்குப் பெறுவதற்கு உதவி செய்ய யாரையாவது அனுப்பித்தரும்படிப் பெரியவாளைக் கேட்டிருந்தார். அப்படிக்கிடைத்தால் இந்த மிகப்பெரும் பணிக்கு அதிகம் நன்கொடைகள் பெறுவதற்கு வாய்ப்புகள் அதிகம் உண்டாகும் என்றும் குறிப்பிட்டிருந்தார்.
“இதுக்குத்தான் நான் சந்த்ரமௌளியை வரச்சொன்னேன்.”——பெரியவா.
நான் சென்னையிலிருந்து வந்திருக்கிறேன்.
கடிதம் ஸ்ரீரங்கத்திலிருந்து வந்திருக்கிறது.
பெரியவா மஹாராஷ்டிராவில் எங்கோ ஒரு மூலையில் உள்ள குக்கிராமத்தில் முகாமிட்டிருந்தார்.
இன்றைக்கு இவ்வளவு முன்னேற்றம் அடைந்திருக்கும் தொலைத் தொடர்பு வசதிகளால் கூட, பெரியவா இன்று நடத்திக் காட்டிய இந்த ‘SYNCHRONIZATION’-ஐ செய்திருக்கமுடியுமா என்று எனக்குத் தோன்றியது.
ஒருநாள் மாலையில், மஹாகாவில் பெரியவாளுக்கு அருகில் நின்றுகொண்டிருந்தேன். அவர் ஸ்ரீரங்கம் ராஜகோபுரம் கட்டும் பணியைப் பற்றிப் பேசிக்கொண்டிருந்தார். தமிழ்நாடு, கர்னாடகா மற்றும் ஆந்திரபிரதேஷ் அரசுகள் நல்லதொரு தொகையை நன்கொடையாகக் கொடுத்திருப்பதைப்பற்றிக் கூறினார். அதே சமயம் இசை அமைப்பாளர் இளையராஜாவும் நல்லதொரு நன்கொடை அளித்திருப்பதாகக் கூறினார்.
இளையராஜாவின் நல்ல செய்கையைப் பற்றிப் புகழ்ந்து சொன்னார். அடுத்த நாள் காலை நான் தரிசனத்திற்குச் சென்றபோது ஒரு ஆச்சரியம் காத்திருந்தது. தரிசனத்திற்கு இளையராஜாவே வந்திருந்தார் !
பெரியவா:—“ஒன்னைப்பத்தித்தான் நேத்திக்குப் பேசிண்டிருந்தோம். இன்னிக்கு நீ இங்கே வந்ததுல எனக்கு ரொம்ப சந்தோஷம். இன்னிக்கு இங்க வரணும்னு ஒனக்கு எப்பிடி தோணித்து?”
இளையராஜா:—“நேற்று ஹைதராபாத்தில் ஒரு இசை நிகழ்சிக்காக வந்திருந்தேன். பெரியவா இங்கே இருக்கேள்னு தெரிஞ்சுது. உடனே புறப்பட்டு இரவு முழுதும் பயணம் செய்து இங்கே வந்தேன்.”
அப்படி ஒரு பக்தி இளையராஜவுக்குப் பெரியவா மேலே !
எனக்கு ஒரு ஆசை, அவர் யாத்திரை செய்யும்பொழுது, அவருடன் நடக்கவேண்டும் என்று. ஒரு சமயம் அவர் சதாரா ரோட் என்ற இடத்தில் இருந்தார். நான் முதல் நாள் மாலை அங்கு சென்றேன். அடுத்த நாள் காலை அவர் அடுத்த முகமிற்குக் கிளம்பிவிட்டார். வழக்கம் போல், ஒரு சைக்கிள் ரிக்ஷாவில் அவருடைய வஸ்த்ரங்கள், தண்டம், கமண்டலம் முதலியன; நான்கு அணுக்கத் தொண்டர்கள், இன்னும் சிலபேருடன் நானும் நடந்தேன். ஒன்றரை மணி நேரத்தில் 7 கி.மீ நடந்தார். நடக்கும்பொழுது, அவர் ஜபம் பண்ணிக்கொண்டே வந்தார்; ஒரு வார்த்தை கூட பேசப்படவில்லை.
எங்களுடன் நடந்தவர்களில் ஒரு இரானியனும் இருந்தார். தான் உலகம் முழுதும் பயணம் செய்திருப்பதாகக் கூறி, பெரியவாளைப்போல எந்த ஒரு நவீன வசதிகளையும் உபயோகிக்காத ஒருவரை இதுவரை சந்தித்ததில்லை என்று கூறினார். கடந்த ஏழு வருஷங்களாக ஒவ்வொரு வருஷமும் பெரியவாளைத் தரிசனம் செய்ய வந்துகொண்டிருப்பதாகக் கூறினார். ஒவ்வொரு முறையும் 15 தினங்கள் தங்கி அவருடைய முன்னிலையில் ‘மெடிடேஷன்’ செய்வதாகவும் கூறினார். ஒரு முஸ்லீம் பக்தரின் பக்தியை நினைத்து நான் வியந்தேன்.
பெரியவா யாத்திரையை முடித்துக்கொண்டு, 1984—இல் காஞ்சிபுரம் திரும்பினார். அப்பொழுது அவருக்கு 90 வயது. பின் 1994 வரை காஞ்சியிலேயே தங்கியிருந்தார்.

Periava Charanam.

Periava was camping in Mahagav , a small village, in Maharashtra for around 8 months. I had many darshans of Periyava there. One day, a friend who visited and had darshan of Mahaperiyava called me over phone and said that Periava had asked me to go over there. Immediately, I boarded Gulbarga train (Chennai-Bombay sector) and reached Mahagav around 9 O’clock in the morning by taking a bus.
Periava was staying in a small house with an iron gate. Srikantan was inside and Shri Balu was standing outside. Some devotees were also present.. I prostrated before Periava . The following conversation took place.
Sri Periyava: Sri kanta, Do you know why Chandramouli is here today?
Srikantan: Don’t know periava….
Sri Periyava: Balu, Do you know why he has come?….
Sir Balu: Don’t know Periava…
Sri Periyava: All of you wait…I will tell you why I have called him..
A few minutes later, a postman brought a letter and handed over to Balu. Periava was sitting inside. All of us were standing about 15 feet away from him. Periava asked Balu to read aloud the letter given by the postman. The letter was from Sri Rangam Jeeyar to Maha periava, in which he has thanked Periava for his help in collecting large amount of donations for building the Srirangam Temple Tower. Balu would have read about 4 paras, when Periava intervened and told me “the next matter is relevant to you…”. In the fifth para, the Jeeyar has requested Periava to send someone who could help them with income tax exemption for such donations and if done it will result in more donations.
Sri Periyava: “That’s why I asked Chandramouli to come here to help in this matter”
I have gone from Chennai. The letter is from Sri Rangam. Periava is camping in some remote corner.
I wonder,this kind of synchronization which was possible for Periava, could have been accomplished today even with the latest communication technologies.!
One evening, I was standing next to Maha Periava when he was talking about the construction of the Srirangam Rajagopuram. He said that the Tamilnadu, Karnataka and AP Govts have donated liberally for the same. He also said that music director Ilayaraja also had donated a good amount. Also He complimented about the good deed of Ilayaraja.
Next day morning, when I went for darshan, what a surprise! Ilayaraja himself was there for darshan.
Sri Periyava: Yesterday we were talking about you only….I am glad that you are here today. How did it occur to you to come?”
Ilayaraja: I had come for a programme at Hyderabad yesterday. I leart that Periava is here; so immediately I travelled the whole night and am here…” Ilayaraja has so much of devotion towards Periava

I had one wish, to walk with Periava , during his yatra. Once He was in Satara Road camp. I went there the previous day evening. Next morning Periava started for his next camp. As usual, the Cycle rickshaw was loaded with his vastrams (clothes), the Dhandam (the holy stick) the Kamandalu; Four close attendants; And a few others followed. I also joined. He covered about 7 kms. in one and half hours. He was doing japa while walking. Not a word was spoken.
In that group, there was an Iranian who said, has travelled worldwide, and he had not met anyone like Periava who did not utilize any of the modern facilities. He said every year he visited Periava and each time he stayed for 15 days and did meditation in his presence. I was wondering about the bhakthi of a muslim’s devotee.
Periava returned to Kanchipuram in 1984 after the Yatra. He was 90 then. He stayed in Kanchi itself till 1994.

90 வயதில் யாத்திரையா? நினைக்கவே தலை சுற்றுகிறது…. பெரிவா ஒருத்தாரல மட்டும் இது முடியும். தெய்வங்களுக்கு வயது எல்லாம் வெறும் ஒரு எண்ணிக்கைதான். நம் போன்றோர்க்குதான் அது முதுமையாகும்.
