பாசம் என்பதுதான் அஞ்ஞானம். பாசத்தினால் கட்டப்பட்டிருக்கிற நாம் பசு. ஆண்டவன் பதி. பாசத்தை அறுப்பவன். அஞ்ஞானத்தை நிவர்த்தி செய்பவன் ஆண்டவன். அதனால்தான் அவனுக்குப் பசுபதி என்று நாமம் ஏற்பட்டது. பாசத்தினால் கட்டப்பட்டு இருக்கிற வரைக்கும் நமக்குப் பசு என்றுதான் பெயர். பாசத்தை அறுத்துவிட்டால் நாம் பதியோடு சேர்ந்துவிடுவோம். – ஜகத்குரு ஸ்ரீசந்திரசேகரேந்திர சரஸ்வதி ஸ்வாமிகளின் அருள்மொழிகள்

Affection (Desire) is Agnana. We are an animal (Jeeva/Pasu) bound by affection. Bhagawan is the Pathi (Head). He is the one who cuts off affection. He is the one who gets rid off our Agnana. That is the reason he is called Pasupathy. As long as we are bound by affection we are called Pasu (animal). Once we get rid of our affection we will join with the Pathi. – Sri Kanchi Maha Periyava.
