எனது தகப்பனார் ஜெயராம அய்யர் ரயில்வேயில் உத்தியோகம் பார்த்ததால், அநேகமாக வாரா வாரம் ஒரு கதை சொல்லுவார். அப்படி சொன்ன ஒரு நிகழ்ச்சியின் சுருக்கத்தை உங்களுடன் பகிர்ந்து கொள்ள ஆசைப் படுகிறேன்
பின் வரும் இந்த நிகழ்வு துறவு கொள்ள இருந்த ஒரு நடு வயது நண்பரை நம் பரமாச்சாரியார் எப்படி வழி நடத்தினார் எனபது தான்.
அன்றும் தேனம்பக்கத்தில் பொழுது விடிந்து காலை ஏழு மணி இருக்கும். பெரியவரை பார்க்க காலை நாலு மணி முதல் ஒரு அன்பரும் அவருடைய மகனும் காத்து இருந்தார்கள். சங்கரரின் சிப்பந்தி இந்த செய்தியை பெரியவரின் பார்வைக்கு கொண்டு சென்றார்.
பரப்ரஹ்மம் கிணற்றுக்கு இந்த பக்கம் எழுந்து நின்று அவர்களை வரச் சொல்லு என்று சொன்னார்கள். அப்பாவும் பையனும் சாஷ்டாங்க நமஸ்காரம் பண்ணினார்கள். ரெண்டு பெரும் ஆகாரம் பண்ணினீர்களா என்றார். ஆமாம் என்று சொல்லி குலுங்கி குலுங்கி அழுதார்கள். பொறுமையாக அவர்கள் சொன்னதை கேட்டுக்கொண்டார்கள். அதன் சாராம்சம் இது தான்..
ஹைதராபாத் இல் இருந்து வந்து இருக்கிறார்கள். சமீபத்தில் பையனின் தாயார் காலமாகி விட்டார். காரியங்களையெல்லாம் முடித்து நேரே மடத்துக்கு வந்து இருக்கிறார்கள். அப்பாவும் பையனும் மடத்தில் சேரவேண்டுமாம். பை நிறைய நகை, பணம் எல்லாம் மடத்துக்கு கொடுக்க தயாராக வைத்து இருந்தார்கள்.
ஏண்டாப்பா நீ எல்லாம் ஆண்டு அனுபவிச்சுட்டே.. இந்த பையனை சாமியாராக்க உனக்கு யார் அதிகாரம் கொடுத்தா.. நான் ஒரு வழி சொல்றேன். உன் பையன் நாராயணனை இங்கே விட்டு வெய். கொஞ்ச நாள் இருக்கட்டும். நீ கிளம்பி நான் சொல்ற இடத்துக்கு போய் வெங்கட்ராமனை பார். கார்த்தால விபரமா சொல்றேன்.
அப்பாவுக்கு ஒன்னும் புரியலை. யார் வெங்கட்ராமன்.. இரவெல்லாம் தூக்கம் வரலை.
மருநாள் பொழுது விடிந்தவுடன் கூப்பிட்டு அனுப்பினார்கள். சித்தூரில் புள்ளையார் கோயில் குருக்கள் வெங்கட்ராமன் இருக்கார். அவாத்துக்கு போ விபரம் புரியும்.
காஞ்சிபுரத்தில் இருந்து ஒரு வழியாக ரேணிகுண்டா வந்து சேர்ந்தார். அங்கே சித்தூரில் வெங்கட்ராமன் வீட்டில் அவருடைய ஒரே மகள் பத்மா காலையில் எழுந்ததது முதல் பரபரப்பாக இருந்தாள். அம்மா அம்மா எனக்கு கல்யாணம் என்றாள். அம்மாவுக்கு தூக்கி வாரி போட்டது. என்னடி சொல்றே.. அந்த செவுத்துலே படத்துலே இருக்காரே அந்த உம்மாச்சி தாத்தா என் கனவுல வந்ததார். அவர் எங்கிட்ட ஒன்காத்துக்கு ஒரு மாமா வருவார். அவர் என் புள்ளைய கல்யாணம் பண்ணிகிரியான்னு கேட்டா சரின்னு சொல்லணும்.
போடி கையில ஒரு பவுன் கூட கெடையாது. கல்யாணமாம். தெனமும் ஒன்னோட உம்மாச்சி தாத்தாவை தான் வேண்டிக்கறேன்.. கடவுள் கண் திறக்கட்டும் பாக்கலாம் என்றாள் அம்மா.
சாயங்காலம் நாலு மணி இருக்கும். வாசலில் நிழல் ஆடியது. நாராயணணின் அப்பா வீட்டின் உள்ளே நுழைந்தார். நான் வெங்கட்ராமன் அவர்களை பாக்கணும். கோவிலுக்கு போனேன் வீட்டில் இருப்பதாக சொன்னார். மாமி அடுக்களையில் இருந்து வாசலை பார்த்தார். யாரோ ஜோல்நா பை, சின்ன பெட்டியுடன் நிற்பது தெரிந்தது. யார் நீங்க தெரியல்லியே.. அவர் இப்பதான் கடத்தெருவுக்கு போனார். அப்படி திண்ணையில் உட்காருங்கோ. வந்துடுவார். டீ.. பத்மா வாசல்ல ஒரு மாமா உக்காந்து இருக்கார் அவருக்கு குடிக்க தீர்த்தம் கொண்டு வா நான் காப்பி கலக்கறேன் என்று உள்ளே போனா.
பத்மா சொம்பில் தண்ணி கொண்டு வந்து கொடுத்ததை வாங்கி குடித்து பெண்ணிடம் பேச்சுக் கொடுத்தார். என்னம்மா எத்தனாவது படிக்கிறாய் என்றார். அவ்வளவுதான் தன்னுடைய குடும்ப கதையை ஒப்பித்து விட்டாள். ஏண்டி பேசறதுக்கு யாரவது கெடச்சா போறுமே விட மாட்டியே என்று செல்லமாக அம்மா மகளை கடிந்துகொண்டாள்
காபியை வாங்கி குடிக்கும்போதே வெங்கட்ராமன் உள்ளே நுழைந்தார். யார் நீங்க திண்ணைல உட்காந்து இருக்கேளே. ஏண்டி இப்படியா வந்தவாளை வாசல்லையே உட்கார வெக்கறது என்றார்.
நாராயணின் அப்பா பேச ஆரம்பித்தார். ஹைதராபாத்தில் இருந்து தேனம்பாக்கம் வரை சொல்லி முடித்தார். மஹா பெரியவா உங்களை பாக்க சொல்லி அனுப்பினார். உங்க மகளை எங்க வீட்டுக்கு மருமகளாக ஆக்கிக்க சொன்னார். அடுத்த வெள்ளிகிழமை தேனம்பக்கத்தில் என் பையனுக்கும் உங்க பெண்ணுக்கும் பெரியவா முன்னாடி கல்யாணம் என்று சொல்லும்போதே பத்மா பக்கத்தில் வந்து நின்றாள். பத்மாவை பார்த்து என் புள்ளைய கல்யாணம் பண்ணிகிறையா அப்படின்னு கேட்டார்.
அம்மா அம்மா விடியகாலைல சொப்பனத்துல உம்மாச்சி தாத்தா சொன்னாரே அவர் இவர் தானா. தடாலென்று காலில் விழுந்து நமஸ்கரித்தாள். பத்மாவின் அப்பாவுக்கும் அம்மாவுக்கும் ஒன்றும் புரியவில்லை.
வெங்கட்ராமன் திறந்த வாய் மூடாமல் ஒன்றும் பேசத்தெரியாமல் அசந்து போய நின்றார். சமாளித்துக்கொண்டு மாமா நானோ ஏழை குருக்கள். கல்யாணம் பண்ணிகொடுக்க கூட என் கிட்ட வசதி இல்லை.

இத பாருங்கோ. இது அத்தனையும் சத்குருவோட உத்தரவு. உங்களுக்கோ எனக்கோ அதை மாற்றவோ மறுக்கவோ உரிமை கிடையாது. இந்தாங்கோ இந்தப்பையிலே நாராயணனோட அம்மாவோட நகை, பணம் எல்லாம் இருக்கு. ரெண்டு நாளுலே தேனம்பாக்கம் பொண்ண கூட்டிண்டு வந்து சேருங்கோ. நானும் ஏன் சொந்தங்களை கூட்டிண்டு வரேன். பிராமணர் கிளம்பிட்டார்.
சொன்ன மாதிரியே அந்த வெள்ளிகிழமையும் வந்தது. தேனம்பக்கத்தில் கிணற்றுக்கு அந்தப்பக்கம் நின்று நம் பெரியவர் தாலி ஆசிர்வதித்து கொடுக்க நாராயணன் பத்மாவின் கழுத்தில் தாலியை கட்டினான். ஸ்ரீ சரணர் கண்களில் குறும்புடன் பத்மாவை பார்த்து ஏண்டிம்மா அதுக்குள்ளே ஒனக்கு என்ன கல்யாணத்துக்கு அவசரம் என்றார்.. என்ன உம்மாச்சி தாத்தா நீங்க தானே என் சொப்பனத்திலே வந்து சொன்னீங்க.மறந்து போச்சா. ஆமாம் ஆமாம் வயசாயிடுத்தோல்லியோ மறந்து தான் போச்சு என்றார். எல்லோரும் நடப்பது கனவா நனவா என்று மயங்கித்தான் போனார்கள்.

Since my father was employed in the Railways, he would tell me a story almost every week. I want to share with you the summary of one such story.
This story is about how our Periyava dealt with a middle aged man who wanted to give up everything in his life.
That day, it was around 7am in Thenambakkam. A father and his son were waiting from 4 am to see Periyava. A sippandhi conveyed this news to Periyava.
Having stood on one side of the well, he asked the visitors to be brought there. The father and son fell down at Periyava’s Feet. Periyava asked them if they had anything to eat. They replied yes and started sobbing uncontrollably. Periyava patiently heard them out. This is the summary.
They were from Hyderabad. The boy’s mother had passed away recently. After finishing the ceremonies, they had come directly to the Matam. Apparently, father and son wanted to join the Matam. They had brought a bag full jewels and cash to hand over to the Matam.
Periyava said, “Hey, you have lived your life. But what rights do you have make a Sanyasi out of this boy ? I will tell you a way out. Leave your son Narayanan here. Let him be here for a few days. You go to the place I ask you to go and meet Venkatraman. I will give you the details in the morning.
The father did not understand a thing. Who is Venkatraman ? He was not able to sleep all night.
At the break of dawn, Periyava sent for the father. In Chittoor, Venkatraman is the priest in the Pillayar Kovil. Go to his house, you will understand everything.
He reached Renigunta from Kanchipuram. There in Chittoor,in Venkatraman’s house, Venkatraman’s only daughter Padma was excited right from the morning. She said, ‘Amma, Appa, my wedding is approaching !’ Her mother was taken aback.
She asked, ‘What are you blabbering?’
Padma said, “That ‘Umachchi thatha’ who is there in that photo on the wall – He came in my dream last night. He said a man will come to your house. If he asks you if you are willing to marry his son, just say yes”
Her mother replied, “We don’t even have a small piece of gold, how can your wedding happen ? I’m also praying daily to your ‘Umachchi thatha’. Let’s see if God opens His eyes”
At around 4pm in the evening, Narayanan’s father came to their house.
‘I want to meet Venkatraman. I had been to the temple but I was told he was at home’
The mami came out of the kitchen and looked. She could see a person with a bag and a small briefcase.
She said, ‘I don’t know who you are. Mama has just stepped out. Please sit down on the verandah. He will be back anytime now’
To her daughter she said, ‘Can you get water for this mama ? I will prepare coffee and come’, and went inside.
He took the water the daughter brought and drank some of it. He began to strike up a conversation with her.
‘Hello dear, what class are you studying?’ That was the opening she wanted. She blurted out all about her family, when her mother came
Her mother scolded her affectionately, ‘If you get somebody to listen to you, you don’t leave them !’
Just as he started drinking the coffee, Venkatraman came home.
“Who are you ? Why are you sitting on the verandah itself ? Please come inside’
To his wife, he said, ‘Don’t you know better than to seat guests on the verandah itself ?’
Narayanan’s father began to talk. He related everything from Hyderabad to Thenambakkam
‘MahaPeriyava has directed me to meet you. HE has asked me to make your daughter my daughter in law. Just as he was saying, ‘Next Friday, the wedding between my son and your daughter is to take place in Thenambakkam in Periyava’s presence’, Padma came there.
He looked at Padma and asked her ‘Will you marry my son?’
Padma asked her parents, ‘Amma, Appa, is this the person Umachchi Thatha referred to in my dream?’ She fell at the feet of Narayanan’s father. Padma’s parents couldn’t understand what was going on.
Venkatraman just stood there with his mouth open, totally shocked, without knowing what to say. He told Narayanan’s father, ‘Mama, I’m a poor priest. I don’t have money to conduct this wedding’
Narayanan’s father said, ‘Look here, this is Sadguru’s order. You and me do not have any rights to go against it. Here, this bag contains jewels and cash that belonged to Narayanan’s mother. In two days, be there in Thenambakkam. I will also get my relatives.’ Saying so, the man left.
Friday came. In Thenambakkam Periyava stood on one side of the well, blessed the Thali and handed it over. Narayanan tied the Thali on Padma’s neck.
Periyava mischievously asked Padma, ‘Were you in a hurry to get married?’
Padma replied, ‘But Umachchi thatha, it was You who came in my dream and told me. Have You forgotten ?’
Periyava replied, ‘Yes, yes. I’M getting old. I must have forgotten !’
All the people there couldn’t understand if all this was a dream or reality.

Faith and belief in Himj. that is all He wants and nothing else from anyone!!!after all that ominpotent omnipresence – what He will want from ordinary humans like us. He knows only to give – see his hands, it is always up above you!!!!
பெரியவா சரணம் !என்ன சொல்ல இருக்கு! அவரிடம் வந்தால் ப்ரச்நையெல்லாம் தீர்ந்துவிடுமே! பாட்டும் நானே பாவமும்(bhavam) என்று அருளும் கொடை வள்ளல் எம்பிரான்! அவர்தானே அவர் நிழலுக்கு அழைத்து வெகுமானமும் அளிக்கிறார். சிவபுராணம் சொல்கிறபடி அவனருளாலே அவன் தாள் வணங்கி! அவன் ஏற்பாடல்லவா! லீலையல்லவா! சங்கரா நின் தாள் போற்றி போற்றி!
