Kramarchanai for Aakasa Lingam @Chidambaram

I had a very great opportunity to have an an out-of-the-world experience at Aakasa Lingam in Chidambaram. My friend had arranged a chaturveda parayanam and abishekam for this lingam at Chidambaram…This lingam is adjacent to the sabhai – not on the ground level of the temple but one level up. It started off with chatur veda parayanam of Sri Rudram. Very well-read ganapadigal led the parayanam while most-respected deekshitar performed the abishekam. Aibshekams were wonderful. The vibration from all those vaideekas chanting vedas were just mesmerizing….Followed by the Kramarcharana to Parameswaran.
While vilvam were ordered for the archanai, we did not receive for some reason – may be He did not wantChidambaram_Gopuram it that day! Instead we got baskets and baskets of “marikozhundu”. About 5 deekshitars standing surrounding the shiva lingam and the rest standing on two sides outside of the sannidhi and offering marikozhundu to Him was beyond words. At the end of the kramarchanai, the entire garbagraham was full of green – what a sight!!!

To give you all a perspective (for those who have not visited this lingam). The aakasa lingam sannidhi is left to the 2nd pillar. When you sit straight to the lingam and turn your head to your left, you will see the chitsabhai as in the 2nd picture

To top of all, the final deeparadhanai, was done with 5 deekshitars doing at the same time – exactly like saptharishi puja/aradhanai at Kasi Viswanathar Kovil.

None of us have seen Parameswaran sitting in Kailasam. From all the scriptures/puranas that we have read, this is how I think that all rishis, devas and deekshitars worship by offering vilvam, flowers and deeparadhanai there while Him sitting like an emperor in the middle!

The whole 2 hours is still fresh in my mind and will be forever. For a change, I am going to try drawing this great scene!

Thanks to Adiyarukkum Adiyen for giving me an opportunity to participate in this wonderful darshan….

“Avan Arulale Avan Thaal Vanangi” is a maha vaakyam – how true?

  5. Narration gives an impression that I stand before the Almighty and experienced personally. Thanks a lot.

  6. இதை தமிழில் எழுதினால் மிகவும் பயன் தரும்.

  7. Vilvam is all time favorite of shiva. Marikozhundu is a fragnant leaf/ flower which is seasonal. For parameshwarar, 12 abhishekams are prescribed over 12 months poornima. eg aippasi – annam. like wise for chitrai maasam its marikozundu abhishekam, meaning he like to be covered by marikozhundu. Tats wy mahadava made marikozhundu come instead of vilvam.

  8. You are very much blessed. How to arrange Kramarchanai for Aakasa Lingam? . Usually, I heard of Bilwa (Vilvam) archani for Lingam. Is there any particular significance for “marikozhundu”.?.

  9. Yes, I am from Chidambaram and I can understand how it feels to be sitting @ Akaasa lingam sannidhi. It transcends us. Om Namashivaya.
