During my trip to Trichy, I was lucky to meet Dr Radhakrishna Sastrigal, who is a well-known sanskrit/vedic scholor and a ayurvedic doctor in Trichy/Srirangam. He has been associated with Kanchi mutt and all Periyavas for a very long time. He has shared very interesting experiences etc.
It was an interesting and very insightful 2+ hours conversations with him. He clarified several nithya puja related questions, helped me translate the meaning for the dhyana slokam. He has an excellent command over sastras and hence his clarification and guidance on certain things really helped….

mahesh, God bless you (it is unnecessary because you are already blessed by periava otherwise you wont be doing this service. please ignore what others say and please continue. regarding pudu periava many may have different opinions but as once periayava said anyone with a dhanda and kavivastra = sanyasi = should be respected. puduperiava has been doing chandramoulipooja for a long time and is great. as one who has studied with puduperiava in very young age at thiruvanaikoil, let me assure that he is a great sanyasin and matathipathi who has done a lot to the mutt. time and grahas might have changed circumstances for short time for the mutt but that does not mean the greatness goes down. even today let me assure people like chandramouli(whom i know personally )and also others that if puduperiava touches things or blesses for marriage or something like that in his own hands, it does happen even today.
as regards the comment about rev.sastrigal, yes he is great and known ayurvedic doctor also at srirangam. i have the sandalwood (sandanam)on which periava did pooja and has the meru image on that. when periava gave fifty years ago i just put it pooja room and lo, it started growing big beyond the vessel in which that was kept. i went and asked periayava what to do now(he already told me to give away the various chakrams sent by bhuvaneswari peetam at skandasramam so i was worried if HH would ask me to return it!!)and HH told me to keep it in a suitable copper or vengala dabba and daily put only some flowers and my son is doing it even today.
I wrote this to assure you that mahesh, as sastrigal said keep anything you want, even a small flower, invoke periava in that by calling him to be there and He will be there. so dont worry you dont have a paduka. next time you go to Mettur swamigal, ask him or I will send word or ask him to see your wishes are fulfilled. hubli ramaswami nee n.ramaswami

I was asking him questions about my Nithya puja, meaning of the dhyana sloka, what kind of abishekams, the timing etc….interestingly, I heard for the first time, according to Shastra, puja has to be done after doing arkyam for madhyanam also. So he was asking me to give arkyam for madhyanam in the morning itself before doing the puja…..
I sincerely wish I had more time to discuss or even attend one of his pujas to learn more things…

First of thanks a lot for immidiately taking the necessary action with regard to auditor chandramouli’s interview.
With respect Dr Radhakrishnan sastrigals interview; I definitely cannot agree with the fact that when someone is offered with periyava’s padukas he will refuse it because it should be kept without dust and it is difficult to maintain it.
Anybody who knows periyava will only be longing to have his paduka and it is a well known fact that THE SUPREME POWER MAHAPERIYAVA who is going to maintain the paduka and not a tiny jeevaatma like you. I am not here dispute the credentials of Dr .Radhakrishnan sastrigal but I am unable to digest the fact that how on earth could this man ever think of refusing the Holy padukas given by the lord himself. Whatever be his level of elevation ,his knowledge of the scriptures, the sadhanas he has done, no jeeva raasi on earth could even think of such a thing about periyava.
Coming to the next point, sastrigal trys to justify that we can create a paduka by ourself when the anchor expresses his longing/urge for periyava’s padukas. How can we accept this? In that case we can create out own rudraksha malas,our own spatika malas, our own thirumangalyam sharadu and it would be possible for anyone of us to invoke the guru with our own manufactured paduka.There is no necessity for the procedural rituals to be followed and there would be no need for the respective vasthu to be kept in the guru’s/eswara’s sannithi before being given as a gift to the sishya for practing guru bhakthi. The state one has attained due to strict disciplined sadhanas will automatically be pulled by the grace of the guru on recieving the guru’s padukas directly from the adhistanam and all the state/levels/paandithyam/gnaanam vanishes into thin air on the mere thought of such a guru.Just as Adhi Sankaracharya quotes in his GURU ASHTAKAM “MANASCHENNA LAGNAM GURUANGRIPADME THATHAH KIM THATHAH KIM THATHAH KIM THATHAH KIM”,meaning whatever success or momentary states you attain; what is the use if you donot surrender to the lotus feet of the guru….No doubt he is an elevated soul …. but even greatest of souls would not dare to pass such a comment on periyava’s paduka’s…. This is my humble personal opinion….
Kindly reconsider retaining the last part of sastrigal’s opinion periyava’s padukas in the uploaded video and also in youtube….

Do you think these are right?

The interview done by Dr Radhakrishnan Sastrigal might have been genuine and he might have not meant what has been supposedly percieved by some of the devotees including myself. The reason that this point has been stressed is for the fact that most of the readers of the blog (including myself) are beginners who are just here for the very divine charisma of Periyava and the need of that perfect/flawless/pure “GOD IN HIS TRUE SENSE”image of Periyava for our spiritual development is a must.I have brought this to your notice on behalf of all the devotees so that a small issue like the above which no doubt can be seen on a very elevated plane could in future trigger a cancerous growth about the already “momentarily”divided sanatana dharma.
Secondly on the words spoken by auditor Chandramouli on pudu periyava I would like to exactly quote what has been recorded(this event takes place in the final few moments of the SECOND PART OF HIS INTERVIEW).

Your advise is very genuine. It is not blunt. I take it as a constructive comment and I know it is the best interest of the matam. I carefully watch every word that is said to avoid controversies. In spite of that if something slips, my sincere apologies. I am also a human and making mistakes is common. I do not intentionally leave any unwanted comments. In fact, I am not publishing a very good interview of an advocate from Kumbakonam because he simply narrated some incidents that might spark controversies. I talk to Shri Shivaraman regularly to check if it is okay to publish or not.
Dr. Radhakrishnan of Srirangam has attained higher level of sadhanas – he is in a different plane. He is talking about doing avahanam of Mahaperiyava in a small padhuka and bringing Him there actually!!!! He is into aroopa level devotion, which is not easy for anyone to follow. To him, having the actual padhukas does not matter – any devotee can invoke Mahaperiyava at his home on any padhuka/vigraha – he is talking super-serious stuff!!!! He explained me the kind of sadhanas he did in his life – simply amazing!!! At the end of the interview, he says clearly about the importance of Guru. For average devotees and bakthas like me, this might be offending….His devotion and faith to Mahaperiyava is immense. For a devotee of Mahaperiyava and all other periyavas all his life, let us not insult him by suspecting his intentions.
Auditor Sri Chandramouli, if you’re referring to the gentlemen, who let his secretary type while you were doing the interview, I was not able to follow a single word he said due to background noise. Also this is one of the very first videos I edited and posted. If you’re referring to something else, please let me know which one it is.
Just so you know, I have HH Pudhu Periyava Padhukas at home – so I will be the last one to allow such comments. Hope this explains the second part.
On a lighter note, you could have avoided capitalizing the whole email! Even without that I could sense the seriousness!!

Great privilege to hear each and every one of MahaPeriyava devotees experience. Dr. Radhakrishna Sastrigal composed MahaPeriyava Sahasra naamastotram in Sanskrit he has also given the meaning in tamil for every naama.
. Every naama he has enjoyed the bliss of MahaPeriyava. Sri. Ra Ganapathy in Deivathin Kural – Shankara charitham has mentioned his name has reference.

I am requeting you both to consider the same.
1.Kindly avoid unnecessary noise.. for ex.. street vendor.. .During Brahmasri Chandramouli’s interview, during beginning part lot of disturbance…
2. You can request the devotee to give the interview in separate room where there is not distubance.
Why i am insisting this is….to my knowledge these videos are to be preserved for our future generation. These can not be heard once and left it just like that. These are treasures..

Mahesh, can you see if you can transcribe excerpts from the video above. I request you this since you will be in a better position to understand what Sastrigal speaks since you interviewed him and can recall what he spoke with you.
It makes sense. But I am terrible in transcribing to maintain the same feel, emotions etc – would need some experts like Sri Suresh P to do this. Any volunteers?
I did try my hand at transcribing the video before writing to you, but I could not follow what Sastrigal was speaking in several places and had to give up :(.
