அவதார பூமிக்கான யோக்யதாம்சம்

அந்த வம்சங்களில் வந்த நம்பூதிரிகள் மலையாள தேசத்தில் வைதிக அநுஷ்டானங்களைப் புஷ்களமாக (நிறைவாக)ப் பண்ணிக் கொண்டு ஸதாசார ஸம்பன்னர்களாக வாழ்ந்து வந்தார்கள். அந்த வம்சத்துக்காரர்கள் மட்டுமில்லை; நம்பூதிரி ஸமூஹம் முழுதுமே அப்படி இருந்து வந்தது. மலைக்கு மறுபக்கம் நடக்கும் வ்யவஹாரங்களில் சிக்கிக் கொண்டு குழப்பம் அடையாமல் அவர்கள் ஒதுக்குப் புறமாக இருந்த தங்கள் தேசத்தில் நிச்சிந்தையாகப் பழைய வழிகளிலேயே போய்க் கொண்டிருந்தார்கள்.

அப்போதென்ன, ‘சாஸ்த்ரமும் வேண்டாம், ஸம்ப்ரதாயமும் வேண்டாம்’ என்று விட்டுவிட்டு, எல்லாம் கிரிசை கெட்டுக் கிடக்கிற தற்காலத்திலுங்கூட¹ எங்கேயாவது கொஞ்சம் விதிவத்தாக அத்யயனம் நடந்து வைதிகஸ்ரீ இருந்து கொண்டிருக்கிறதென்றால் அது மலையாள தேசந்தான் என்றுதானே பார்க்கிறோம்? அங்கேதான் தற்போதும் அநேக நம்பூதிரி க்ருஹங்களில் கர்ப்பத்தைக் கூட்டி எட்டு வயஸில் பசங்களுக்கு உபநயனம் செய்து, அப்புறம் அஞ்சு ஆறு வருஷமாவது அவரவருக்கான (வேத) சாகையில் அத்யயனம் பண்ணுவதற்கு விடுகிறார்கள். இந்த (அத்யயன) காலத்தில் சாஸ்த்ரத்தில் சொல்லியுள்ளபடி ப்ரஹ்மசாரிப் பசங்கள் ஒரு கோவணத்தை மட்டும் கட்டிக் கொண்டு, தண்டம் வைத்துக் கொண்டு, மான்தோலில் படுத்துக் கொண்டு நியமமாக இருக்கிறார்கள். முதல் மந்த்ரியாயுள்ள கம்யூனிஸ்ட் கட்சியைச் சேர்ந்த சங்கரன் நம்பூதிரிபாடு கூட இப்படி சாஸ்த்ரோக்தமாக அத்யயனம் பண்ணியவர்தான்! (சிரித்து) கம்யூனிஸ்ம் மாத்ரமென்ன? அதுவும் ‘அபேதவாதம்’ என்னும் ஸோஷலிஸத்தின் கெடுபிடி ரூபந்தான். ‘அத்வைதம்’ என்றாலும் ‘அபேதம்’ என்றாலும் ஒன்றுதான்! இவர் பேரும் ஆசார்யாள் பேராகவே இருக்கிறது! அதிலுங்கூட அத்வைதம்!

பிற்பாடு இங்கிலீஷ் படிப்புக்குப் போகிறவர்களும்கூட ஆரம்பத்தில் சில வருஷங்கள் அத்யயனம் பண்ணாமலிருப்பதில்லை என்று ஸமீப காலம்வரை நம்பூதிரிமார்களிடையில்தான் நடந்து வந்திருக்கிறது.

இந்த இருபதாம் நூற்றாண்டின் புது நாகரிகக் கூத்தாட்டத்திலும்கூட இப்படி மலையாளத்தில் ஓரளவு வேதாத்யயனம் இருக்கிறதென்றால் இரண்டாயிரத்தைநூறு வருஷங்களுக்கு முந்தி எப்படி இருந்திருக்கும்?

அதனால்தான் அவதார பூமியாகப் பரமேச்வரன் அந்த இடத்தைத் தேர்ந்தெடுத்தது. சாஸ்த்ர வழியை லோகத்துக்குக் காட்டுவதற்காக அவர் அத்யயனம், குருகுலவாஸம் செய்யணுமென்றால் அவை உள்ள இடத்தில் பிறந்து வளர்ந்தால்தானே முடியும்?

Eligibility of the place of incarnation

In the Malayalam state, the Namboodris who had come in that ancestry, were performing the Vedic anushtanam(s) [वैदिक अनुष्ठानम्] satisfactorily and living a life endowed with virtues.  Not only people from that lineage, but the entire community of Namboodris were like that.  Without getting entangled in the activities that were going on in the other side of the mountains and getting baffled, they were leading their lives without any undue concerns, following their traditional ways.

Not only in those days; even today¹, when things have decayed with thoughts like “neither are Sastras necessary nor religious observances”, don’t we see that if learning of Vedas is happening at least to a small extent according to the prescribed rules, it is only in Malayalam state?  Even today, in those Namboodri families, the sacred thread ceremony (Upanayanam) is performed for boys at the age of eight, calculating from the time of conception, and thereafter they are initiated into their respective (Vedic) branches to pursue study of Vedas, for at least five or six years.  During this period of study, the young Brahmin students observe the prescribed rules like wearing only a loin cloth, carrying a stick [दण्डम्-dandam] and using a deer hide to lie down. Sankaran Namboodiripad, belonging to the Communist party, who has become the Chief Minister, was also like that!  (Laughing) What about communism? It is only the stricter version of Socialism – philosophy of non-discrimination- Abhedavaadam [अभेदवादम्].  Both ‘Advaitam’ [अद्वैतम्] and ‘Abheda’ [अभेदम्] are one and the same!  This man’s name is also that of Acharya!  Advaita even in that!

Even till recent times, among the Namboodris, people who later opted for English studies would not miss the study of Vedas in their early days.

If even in this modern civilisation of the twentieth century there is learning of Vedas at least to some extent in the Malayalam state, how would it have been about two thousand five hundred years ago?

That is why Parameswara chose that place for His incarnation. To demonstrate to the world the path laid down by the Sastras, He had to study the Vedas and reside in a Gurukulam (गुरुकुलवास); So is it not necessary that he is born and grows up in such a place where these methods are in practice?
