As HH Pudhu Periyava says “Krishnam vandhe jagadgurum” applies to only to Adisankara/Mahaperiyava other than Lord Krishna Himself. Whatever Krishna taught us in Bagavad Gita in 18 chapters are said by Periyava in 7 volumes of Deivathin Kural. This is the light to remove maya. On this auspicious day, let us do all the aradhanas for Lord Krishna and Mahaperiyava and pray them to bless us with the knowledge and wisdom to relieve us from all the sufferings.
Along with vedantic/philosophical approach, let us also sit back and enjoy all the great food we get on this day and still thank Lord Krishna for this too 🙂
ஸ்ரீ கிருஷ்ண பகவான் கீதையில், அஞ்ஞான உலகத்தினருக்குத் தெரியாத ஞானப் பிரகாசத்திலேயே ஞானியானவன் எப்போதும் இருக்கிறான் என்கிற அர்த்தத்தில், “உலகம் முழுவதும் தூங்கும் காலத்தில் ஞானி விழித்துக் கொண்டிருக்கிறான்” என்கிறார். எங்கும் ஒரே இருட்டாக இருக்கும் காலத்தில் ஒரு வெளிச்சம் தோன்றினால் அதை வரவேற்கிறோம். ஒரு பாலைவனத்தின் நடுவில் கொஞ்சம் நீரும் நிழலும் தென்பட்டால் அளவிலா ஆனந்தத்தைத் தருகிறது. இருண்ட மேகங்களின் மத்தியில் தோன்றும் மின்னல் அதிகப் பிரகாசத்தோடு விளங்குகிறது. ஸ்ரீ கிருஷ்ண பரமாத்மா தக்ஷிணாயத்தில் ஆவணி மாதத்தில் ஸ்ரீ கிருஷ்ணபக்ஷ அஷ்டமியன்று நடுநிசியில் பிறந்தான். நமக்கு ஒரு வருஷம் தேவர்களுக்கு ஒரு நாள். நம் உத்தராயணம் அவர்களுக்குப் பகல்; தக்ஷிணாயனம் அவர்களுக்கு இரவு. ஆகையால் ஸ்ரீ கிருஷ்ணன் அவதரித்த காலம் தேவர்களுக்கு இரவு ஆகிறது. இம்மாதிரியே நமக்கு ஒரு மாதம் பித்ருக்களுக்கு ஒரு நாளாகும். நமது சுக்லபக்ஷம் அவர்களுக்குப் பகல்; கிருஷ்ணபக்ஷம் இரவு. ஆகையால் ஸ்ரீ கிருஷ்ணன் பிறந்த கிருஷ்ண பட்சம் பித்ருக்களுக்கும் இரவாகிறது. அஷ்டமி பக்க்ஷத்தின் நடுவில் வருவதனால் அன்று பித்ருக்களுக்கு நடுநிசியாகும். ஸ்ரீ கிருஷ்ணன் பிறந்தது அஷ்டமியன்று நடுநிசி. இதனால் என்ன ஏற்படுகிறது? ஸ்ரீ கிருஷ்ணன் அவதரித்த காலம் தேவர்கள், பித்ருக்கள், மனிதர்கள் எல்லோருக்கும் நிசி. எல்லா தினுசிலும் இருட்டு அதிகமாக இருக்கும் சமயம். ஸ்ரீ கிருஷ்ணன் பிறந்ததும் இருள் நிறைந்த சிறைச்சாலை. இப்படி ஸ்ரீ கிருஷ்ணாவதார காலத்தில் எல்லாம் இருள் மயமான சூழ்நிலை.
அவனுடைய பெயரும் கிருஷ்ணன்; ‘கிருஷ்ண’ என்றால் ‘கறுப்பு’ என்று பொருள். அவனது மேனியும் கறுப்பு.
இப்படி ஒரே கறுப்பான சமயத்தில் தானும் கறுப்பாக ஆவிர்ப்பவித்தாலும் அவனே ஞான ஒளி. நல்ல காளமேகங்களிடையே மின்னல் மாதிரி இத்தனை இருட்டுக்கு நடுவே தோன்றிய ஞான ஒளி. ஞான ஒளியானதால்தான் மங்காத பிரகாசமுடையதாய் இன்றும் என்றும் ஜ்வலித்துக் கொண்டிருக்கிறது. அஞ்ஞானத்தால் இருண்டிருக்கும் உலகத்தில்தான் ஞானத்தின் மகிமை அதிகமாக விளங்கும். அப்படியே கிருஷ்ணனின் பெருமை பிரகாசிக்கிறது. அவனுடைய கீதை உலகெங்கும் ஒலித்துக் கொண்டிருக்கிறது. அவனுடைய லீலா விநோதங்கள் நிறைந்திருக்கும் ஸ்ரீமத் பாகவதம் புராண சிரேஷ்டமாக விளங்குகிறது.
உடலுக்கு ஒளியளிப்பது கண். உயிருக்கு ஒளி தருவது ஞானம். உலக உயிர்களுக்கெல்லாம் ஞான ஒளி தருகிற கண்ணாக இருப்பவனே கண்ணன். நம் தென்னாட்டில் அவன் கிருஷ்ணன் மாத்திரம் அல்லாமல் கண்ணனும் ஆகிவிட்டான். அகக்கண்ணையும் புறக்கண்ணையும் அம்ருதத்தில் மூழ்கடிக்கும் வடிவம் அவனுடையது. நம் காதின் வழியாக வேணுவினால் கீத அம்ருதத்தையும், உபதேச சாரமான கீதாம்ருதத்தையும் உட்செலுத்தி குளிர வைக்கும் அந்தக் கண்ணனே நம் உலகுக்குக் கண்; கறுப்பினிடையே விளங்கும் ஒளி காட்டும் கண்; அந்த ஒளியும் அவன்தான்.
ஸ்ரீ கிருஷ்ணன் ஒரே அவதாரத்தில் அநேக விதமான லீலைகளைச் செய்து நடித்திருக்கிறான். மிகவும் சேஷ்டை செய்யும் குழந்தை, பிறகு மாடு மேய்க்கும் பையன், குழலூதிக் கூத்தாடும் கலைஞன், இவற்றை அநுபவிக்கும் ரஸிகன், (சாணூரன், முஷ்டிகன் என்ற கம்ஸனைச் சேர்ந்த மகாமல்லர்களை ஜயித்தபோது) மல்யுத்தத்தில் தேர்ந்தவன், (நக்னஜித் என்ற ராஜாவின் பெண்ணான ஸத்யை என்பவளைக் கலியாணம் செய்துகொள்வதற்கு நிபந்தனையாக ஏழு காளைகளை அடக்க வேண்டும் என்ற போது) காளை மாடுகளை அடக்கிக் காட்டுபவன், ராஜதந்திர நிபுணன், தூது செல்பவன், சாரதி, துரௌபதி போல் தீர்க்க முடியாத கஷ்டத்தில் சிக்கிக் கொண்டவர்களைக் காக்கும் ஆபத்பாந்தவன், குசேலர் போன்ற அநாதர்களை ரக்ஷிக்கும் பக்த வத்ஸலன், பீஷ்மருக்கு முக்தியை அளித்தவன், பீஷ்மருக்கு மாத்திரமல்ல – தன்னையே கொல்லும்படியான அம்பைப் பிரயோகித்த வேடனுக்கும் முக்தி கொடுப்பவன் – இப்படியெல்லாம் லீலை செய்திருக்கிறான்.
உலகத்தில் நல்லதும் பொல்லாததுமாக அநேக விதமான மனப்போக்கை உடையவர்களாக ஜீவர்கள் அமைந்திருக்கிறார்கள். வீரனும் சூரனும், திருடனும் ஸ்திரீலோலனும், பேதையும் உழைப்பாளியும், கிழவனும் குழந்தையும், இறுமாப்புடையவனும் பரோபகாரியும், மனமுருகியவனும் கல்நெஞ்சனும், கஞ்சனும் ஊதாரியும், மூடனும் கல்விமானும், யோகியும் ஞானியுமாகப் பலவிதமான மன நிலையை உடையவர்கள் உலகத்தில் இருக்கிறார்கள். இவர்களில் தீய அம்சம் உள்ளவர்களை முற்றிலும் நல்ல அம்சங்களைக் கொண்ட ஒரு மகாத்மா அல்லது தெய்வ அவதாரத்தால் ஆகர்ஷிக்க முடியாமலே போகலாம். ஒரு திருடனுக்கு இன்னொரு திருடனைப் பற்றிய கதையே ரஸமாயிருக்கும். ஓர் உல்லாஸ புருஷனுக்கு இன்னோர் உல்லாஸ புருஷனின் கேளிக்கைளே சுவாரஸ்யமாக இருக்கும். ஸ்ரீ கிருஷ்ணன் நல்லவர்களை மட்டுமின்றி மற்றோரையும் கவரவேண்டுமென்றே ஜாரசோர சிகாமணியாக, கபடனாக, மாயனாக, தந்திரசாலியாக எல்லா வேஷமும் போட்டான். பற்பல போக்குக்கொண்ட மக்கள் எல்லோரையும் தனது வகை வகைகளான லீலைகளால் தனித்தனியே ஆகர்ஷித்துத் தன்னுடைய கருணைக்கும் அதன் மூலம் ஞானத்துக்கும் பாத்திரமாக்கிக் கடைத்தேற வைத்த ஸ்ரீ கிருஷ்ணாவதாரமே பரிபூரணவதாரம்.
சிவராத்திரிக்கும் கிருஷ்ணாஷ்டமிக்கும் இடையே சரியாக 180 நாள் இடைவெளி இருக்கும். ஒன்றிலே ஞான ஜோதியான லிங்கம் உதித்தது. அதுவேதான் இன்னொன்றில் வெளியிலே எல்லாம் கருமையாக வைத்துக்கொண்டாலும், உள்ள ஞானத்திலும் கருணையிலும் ஜோதியான கண்ணனாக வந்தது.

Lord Krishna’s Birthday by Maha Periyava
Bhagawan Sri Krishna, in the Gita, says that when the entire world is sleeping, Gnani is awake, to convey the meaning that the enlightened soul is always present in the light of Superior knowledge, which isnot vi sible to the non-enlightened, ignorant world. When it is absolutely dark everywhere and if a light appears, we welcome it. In a desert, if water and shade is found, it gives unlimited joy. The lightning that appears between two dark clouds, is much brighter. Sri Krishna Paramathma, was born in the midnight of Krishna paksha Ashtami, in the month of Avani during the Dhakshniyana. What is one year for us, is one day for Devas. Our Utharayana is their day time. Dhakshinayana is their night time. Therefore, the period when Krishna was born happens to be the night time for Devas. In the same way, one month for us, is one day for our ancestors. Our Sukhlapaksha is their daytime. (Our) Krishna paksha is their night. Therefore, the Krishna paksha in which Krishna was born happens to be night time for our ancestors. Since Ashtami comes in the middle of the paksha, it is mid-night for them (ancestors). Sri Krishna was born in the mid-night of Ashtami. So what happens because of this? The time Sri Krishna was born was mid-night for all, i.e., Devas, ancestors, and human beings. It was the time when it was darkest in all aspects. The place Sri Krishna was born also was a dark prison. This way, it was all dark during the period, when Sri Krishna’s incarnation took place.
His name is also Krishna. Krishna means black. His skin complexion was also dark.
Even though He, himself dark and also was born during the darkest time, He is the light of (superior) knowledge. He is the enlightened Knowledge in the dark, just like the lightning that appears between two dark clouds. Since it is enlightened Knowledge, it continues to glow brightly today and forever, without getting dimmed. Only in the world of ignorance, the value of Knowledge is much greater. In the same way, Sri Krishna’s greatness is also radiant. His Gita is resonating everywhere in the world. His Srimad Bhagawatha, containing all His wonderful sport, shines as the best in puranas.
Eye gives vision to the body. Knowledge gives wisdom to the soul. Krishna is the eye which gives the vision of knowledge to all the living souls in the world. In our south, He is not only Krishna but has also become Kannan. The beauty of his personality drowns both the outer and inner eye in nectar. That Kannan, whose mellifluous music from his flute and the Gita, the essence of His spiritual teachings, entering through our ears, make us blissful, is the eye of the world. The eye which shows light in the dark. He is himself that light.
Sri Krishna, has played out different pastimes in the same Avatara. He did several pastimes, like, as a child which does lot of mischievous, then as a cowherd boy, as an artist dancing while playing a flute, a person enjoying all these, a competent wrestler (when he defeated Chanoora, Mushtika, the great wrestlers in the side of kamsa), a bull fighter (when he had to over-power seven bulls, as a condition to marry Sathyai, daughter of the King, Nagnajit), expert with political acumen, a messenger, Charioteer, Saviour to people who are in dire straits, without a solution, like Draupadi, Compassionate patron of people who have no means, like Kuchela, the One who gave liberation to Bheeshma, not only to Bheeshma, but also to the hunter, who sent the arrow which killed Him.
The world contains people of different types of attitudes, good and bad. Several types with different mental makeup, like, a Courageous warrior, Thief, Womaniser, Naïve, Labourer, Old, Child, Haughty, Philanthropist, Compassionate, Stone-hearted, Miser, Spendthrift, Idiot, Scholar, Ascetic, Knowledgeable, etc., are there. It is possible that some of these people with bad qualities, may not be charmed (won over) by a great man or an incarnation. A thief would find enjoyable only listening to the story of another thief. A fun loving man would find it enjoyable to only hear the entertaining anecdotes of another carefree man. Sri Krishna, put on several disguises, like, as the best of class, pretentious, trickster, shrewd, etc., to not only attract good people but also others. The incarnation of Sri Krishna is the only complete avatar, in having dealt with people with different types of outlook, winning over each one of them separately, making them deserve his mercy and through that, attain the superior knowledge and liberated them.
There is an interval of exactly 180 days between Shivrathri and Krishnashtami. In one, the Lingam rose as the luminous light of knowledge. The same thing, although of dark complexion outwardly, but luminous in knowledge and compassion internally, incarnated as Kanna.

If we are not able to control our tongue and stomach even on auspicious days like Vaikunta Ekadasi, Maha Sivarathri, Gokulashtami, Sri Rama Navami, etc. it is a great shortcoming for us and we are letting ourselves down for being born in Bharatha Desam.
