லோக க்ஷேமத்துக்கு முதுகெலும்பாயிருப்பது வேதம், அந்த வேதத்துக்கு முதுகெலும்பு வேள்வி. வேள்விக்கு முதுகெலும்பாய் இருப்பது அதைச் செய்கிற கர்த்தாவும், அதில் ப்ரதான த்ரவ்யமாயிருக்கிறவற்றைக் கொடுக்கிற கோவும்தான். ஆகவே முடிவாக லோகம் வாழவே முதுகெலும்பாயுள்ள இரண்டில் ஒன்று கோ என்றாகிறது. அதனால்தான் ‘கோரக்ஷணமே பூரக்ஷணம்’. ‘பசு காத்தலே பாரினைக் காத்தல்’ என்கிறது. அந்தக் காரணத்தினால் தான் லோகம் முழுதும் நன்றாக இருக்கவேண்டும் என்று ப்ரார்த்திக்கிறபோது முதலில் கோவையும், அப்புறம் யஜமானனையும் தனிப்படச் சொல்லிவிட்டு, அப்புறமே ஸமஸ்த லோகத்துக்கும் ஸௌக்யத்தை வேண்டுவது: – ஜகத்குரு ஸ்ரீ சந்திரசேகரேந்திர சரஸ்வதி ஸ்வாமிகள்

Vedham is the backbone of Universal welfare. Yagyam is the backbone of that Vedham. What serves as its backbone in turn is the Kartha who performs the Yagyam and the cow which gives the primary products offered in the Yagyam. Therefore it becomes apparent that the cow has come to be one among the two which serve as the backbone for the world to exist and function well. That’s why it is considered that “Gho Rakshanam is Bhoo rakshanam” (preserving the cow is preserving the world). In Tamizh the saying goes thus:”Pasu Kaaththale paarinai kaththal”. It is for this reason that while praying for universal welfare it is customary to mention specifically, the cow first and then the performer and only then to pray for the entire world. – Jagadguru Chandrasekharendra Saraswathy Swamigal

Jaya Jaya Sankara Hara Hara Sankara – We are all aware how the sale of red meat sky rocket during festive times. On the
eve of Eid, by Sri Periyava’s grace, managed to save a handful of cows and calves (total eight) that were on their way. The two month old calves were on the verge of separation from their mothers and were about to taken to Veal market.

Since I could not take them all at once due to the numbers, finance, transport, and logistical issues I blocked the sale first by paying an advance in the mid-week, worked out a few places where the cows can be kept and safely transported them over the week end. One of the places where 2 cows and 2 calves went is to a farm house in Thandalam village (avathara sthalam of our current Periyava). The other set of cows are in Cow Foundation in Thiruvalangadu village. It took two trips to transport the cows (one on Saturday and the other on Sunday). Shri G. Bharath, a great Periyava devotee and blog follower helped a lot by accompanying the cows to the farm house in Thandalam on Saturday. All in all a pretty exhausting but very productive weekend.
