This book also states (the book which Maha Periyava was holding in his hand), what is the duration of ‘Theettu’ (a period of  observance of certain restrictions including non-participation in any holy act or function) to be observed when different categories of relatives die and what is the expiation to be done in case the news is received late. Similarly the period of observance when a delivery has taken place in the family (soothakam) has also been clarified including its applicability to different relatives. Not only there are differences between the two kinds of theettu mentioned above, but also the Theettu during the Grahana (time of eclipse) is entirely different.
