I am really sorry to raise a dissenting voice to the comparison – ” similarly” – of Karthigai Deepam to the celebration of Thanksgiving in the American lands. Thanksgiving is a festival that is soaked in the treachery, cruelty, deprivation and death and blood of of over a hundred million natives of those lands and the decimation of their civilizations. It is definitely NOT Loka Samastho Sukhinao Bhavanthu for them. As you rightly said, so many animals including go matha will be herded into “cow palaces” as they call them to be butchered. Thanksgiving is a festival to say ” Thank you God for helping us destroy the infidels and saving us, and giving into our possession this beautiful land!”

I never meant to compare and this message was posted last year. The essence of the message is simple; to pray for those millions of animals who lose their lives. Of course, in modern days, Thanksgiving has lost its real meaning when it is really meant to thank all the living beings during the entire year.
