தற்போது சென்னை சூளைமேட்டில் வசித்து வருபவர் எஸ்.கல்யாணசுந்தரம். இவர் தந்தையார் பெயர் தி.நா.சுப்ரமணியம். அதாவது திப்பிராஜபுரம் நாராயணசாமி சுப்ரமணியம். சொந்த ஊர் கும்பகோணத்துக்கு அருகில் உள்ள திப்பிராஜபுரம். சுப்பிரமணியத்தின் தந்தையார் பெயர் நாராயணசாமி.
சுப்ரமணியம் சிறந்த கல்வெட்டு ஆராய்ச்சியாளர். தனி நபராகவே இந்தக் கலையைக் கற்றுக் கொண்டு எத்தனையோ கல்வெட்டுக்களை ஆராய்ந்து தகவல்களைச் சொன்னவர்.
சுப்ரமணியத்தின் கல்வெட்டுப் புலமை பற்றி அறிந்த மஹாபெரியவா இவரை நன்றாகப் பயன்படுத்திக் கொண்டார். தான் தரிசித்த ஆலயங்களைப் பற்றிய பூர்வீகத் தகவல்களை, இவரிடமிருந்து கேட்டுப் பெறுவது மஹாபெரியவாளின் வழக்கம்.
1950-களின் துவக்கத்தில் தன் குடும்பத்தினருடன் சென்னையில் வசித்து வந்தார் சுப்ரமணியம். இவரைச் சந்தித்து கல்வெட்டு குறித்தான சில விஷயங்களை விவாதிக்கவேண்டும் என்று மஹாபெரியவா தீர்மானித்தால் மடத்துச் சிப்பந்திகள் மூலம் கடிதம் எழுதச் சொல்லி வரவழைப்பார். அவசரம் என்றால் யாரையாவது நேரில் அனுப்பித் தகவல் சொல்லுவார்.
பெரும்பாலும் இரவு பதினொரு மணிக்கு மேல்தான் மஹாபெரியவாளும் சுப்ரமணியமும் இது போன்ற விஷயங்களை விவாதிப்பார்கள். சம்பந்தப்பட்ட ஆலயம் குறித்துத் தனக்கு இருக்கும் சந்தேகங்களை இவரிடம் கேட்பார் மஹாபெரியவா. அதற்கான விளக்கங்களை கல்வெட்டுக்களை ஆராய்ந்து ஆதாரபூர்வமாகச் சொல்வார் சுப்ரமணியம். சில நேரங்களில் இந்த விவாதம் விடிய விடிய நீடிக்கும். மறுநாள் காலை விடிந்த பின் ஒரு சிப்பந்தி வந்து ‘பெரியவா…ஸ்நானத்துக்கு நேரமாச்சு’ என்று சொன்ன பிறகு தான் பொழுது விடிந்துவிட்டது என்பதே இருவருக்கும் தெரியவருமாம்.
இப்படி மஹா பெரியவாளின் அனுக்கிரஹத்துக்கும் ஆசிர்வாதத்துக்கும் உள்ளான சுப்ரமணியத்துக்கு 1964-ல் சஷ்டியப்த பூர்த்தி வந்தது. இதற்கான விழா சென்னையில் நடந்தது. மஹாபெரியவாளின் ஆசிர்வாதம் வேண்டி இந்தப் பத்திரிக்கை காஞ்சி ஸ்ரீமடத்துக்கும் அனுப்பப்பட்டது.
மஹாபெரியவாளின் ஆசி, சுப்ரமணியத்துக்கு எப்படிக் கிடைத்தது? அந்த சுவாரஸ்யத்தைத் தெரிந்து கொள்வோமா?
சுப்ரமணியத்தின் சஷ்டியப்த பூர்த்தி விழா சென்னை சூளைமேட்டில் அவரது இல்லத்திலேயே நடந்தது. வைதீகம் சம்பந்தப்பட்ட காரியம் என்பதால் பெரியவாளின் ஆசியையும் ஸ்ரீமடத்தின் பிரசாதத்தையும் அந்த சுப தினத்தில் பெற விரும்பினார் சுப்ரமணியம்.
சாஸ்திரம் கற்ற பண்டிதர்களின் மந்திர முழக்கத்துடனும் வேத பாராயண கோஷத்துடனும் சுற்றமும் உறவும் சூழ அமோகமாக நடந்து கொண்டிருந்தது வைபவம். ஆனால் சுப்ரமணியத்தின் முகத்தில் மட்டும் இயல்பான சுரத்து இல்லை. வருவோர் போவோரிடம் சம்பிரதாயத்துக்குச் சிரிக்கிறாரே தவிர, மனதில் ஒரு குதூகலம் இல்லை. எதையோ எதிர்பார்த்துக் காத்திருப்பது போன்ற ஒரு தோற்றம். செயல்பாட்டில் லேசான தடுமாற்றம். முகத்தில் மெலிதான கவலை.
ஏன் இந்தத் தடுமாற்றம்? கவலை?
காஞ்சி ஆச்சார்யர் மஹாஸ்வாமிகளின் அனுக் ரஹத்தைப் பரிபூரணமாகப் பெற்றிருக்கிறோம். எத்தனையோ வேளைகளில் தனிப்பட்ட முறையில் அழைத்து, அவர் கேட்ட பல சந்தேகங்களைத் தெளிவு செய்திருக்கிறேன். அபரிமிதமான பாராட்டுகளையும் அவரிடமிருந்து பெற்றிருக்கிறேன். எனது ஒவ்வொரு வருகையும் அவருக்குத் திருப்தியையும் எனக்கு சந்தோஷத்தையும் கொடுத்திருக்கிறது. ஆனால் என் சஷ்டியப்தபூர்த்தி வைபவத்துக்கு அந்த மகானிடமிருந்து எந்த ஒரு அனுக்ரஹப் பிரசாதமும் வரவில்லையே… மடத்தின் சார்பாக வேறு எவரும் பிரசாதம் கொண்டு வரவில்லையே என்று குழம்பித் தவித்தார் தி.நா.சுப்ரமணியம்.
இருக்காதா பின்னே…?
ஒவ்வொரு முறை ஸ்ரீமடத்தில் தரிசனம் முடிந்து கிளம்பும் போதெல்லாம் வாயார வாழ்த்தி விடை கொடுத்து அனுப்பும் அந்தக் கருணைக்கடல் இந்த சஷ்டியப்தபூர்த்தி தினத்தன்று ஒரு விபூதிப் பிரசாதம் கூட இதுவரை அனுப்பவில்லையே.
சுப்ரமணியம் அதே கவலையில் இருந்தார். தன் மனதில் இருக்கும் கவலையை வேறு எவரிடமும் சொல்லிக் கொள்ளவில்லை. பகிர்ந்து கொள்ளவும் இல்லை.
வைதீக காரியங்கள் முடிந்து, வேத பண்டிதர்கள் ஒவ்வொருவருக்கும் சம்பாவனை கொடுத்து அவர்களை நமஸ்கரித்து மகிழ்ச்சியுடன் அனுப்பி வைத்தார் சுப்ரமணியம்.
வாருங்கள். அப்படியே காஞ்சிபுரம் போவோம். இதே தினத்தில் இதே நேரத்தில் அங்கு என்ன நடக்கிறது என்பதைப் பார்ப்போம்.
சுப்ரமணியத்துக்கு சஷ்டியப்த பூர்த்தி வைபவம் இன்று தான் என்கிற தகவல் மஹாபெரியவா நினைவில் இருக்கிறதா?
மஹாபெரியவாளின் சந்நிதியில் அன்று ஏராளமான பக்தர்கள் கூட்டம். அந்தக் கருணை தெய்வத்தை தரிசித்து ஆசி வாங்கிச் செல்வதற்காக சென்னை மற்றும் பல வெளியூர்களிலிருந்து பக்தர்கள் குவிந்திருந்தனர். எல்லோருக்கும் முறையாகப் பிரசாதம் கொடுத்து அவர்களின் பூர்வீகம் பற்றி அனுசரணையுடன் விசாரித்து அனுப்பிக் கொண்டிருந்தார் மஹாபெரியவா.
சென்னை சமஸ்கிருதக் கல்லூரியில் பணிபுரியும் ஒரு அன்பரும் பெரியவா தரிசனத்துக்காக அன்று வந்திருந்தார். காலையிலேயே ஸ்ரீமடத்துக்கு வந்திருந்தவர், சில மணி நேரங்களுக்குப் பெரியவா சந்நிதியிலேயே ஏகாந்தமாக அமர்ந்து அவரது திவ்யமான தரிசனத்தில் திளைத்திருந்தார்.
மதிய வேளையில் தான் புறப்படலாம் என்பதாகத் தீர்மானித்து பெரியவாளின் அருகே பவ்யமாக வந்து நின்றார். ‘ஊருக்குக் கெளம்பறதுக்குப் பெரியவா உத்தரவு கொடுக்கணும்’ என்றார் வாய் பொத்தி.
‘பேஷா….நீ மெட்ராஸ்தானே போறே?’ – மஹா பெரியவா
‘ஆமா பெரியவா’
‘எனக்கு ஒரு ஒத்தாசை பண்றியா?’ பெரியவா குரலில் குழந்தைத்தனமான ஒரு கெஞ்சல்.
சமஸ்கிருதக் கல்லூரி அன்பர் பதறிப் போனார். ‘பெரியவா.. என்ன வார்த்தை சொன்னேள்..உத்தரவு கொடுங்கோ…என்ன செய்யணுமோ, அதை ஆனந்தமா செய்யறேன்’
‘கல்வெட்டு ஆராய்ச்சி பண்ற சுப்ரமணியத்தை ஒனக்குத் தெரியுமோ?’
‘பர்சனலா தெரியாது பெரியவா. கேள்விப்பட்டிருக்கேன்.’
‘சுப்ரமணியத்துக்கு இன்னிக்கு அறுபதாம் கல்யாணம். ஆசிர்வாதம் வேணும்னு கேட்டுப் பத்திரிக்கை அனுப்பி இருந்தான். நான் தான் மறந்துட்டேன். இன்னிக்குப் பிரசாதம் கிடைக்கலேன்னா, ரொம்பவும் வருத்தப்படுவான். அதனால இப்போ நான் உன்கிட்ட பிரசாதம் கொடுக்கிறேன். நீ கொண்டு போய் கொடுத்துடறியா..?’
அந்த அன்பர் மெய்சிலிர்த்துப் போனார். பரமாச்சார்யாளின் பாக்கியத்துக்குப் பாத்திரமாக இப்படி ஒரு பக்தரா? ‘நிச்சயம் பெரியவா. ஒங்க உத்தரவுப்படியே பண்ணிடறேன்.’
இதுல முக்கியமானது என்னன்னா, சாயங்காலம் வெளக்கு வைக்கிறதுக்குள்ளே இதைக் கொண்டு போய் அங்கே சேர்த்துடனும். சாத்தியமா?’
அது மதிய வேளை. மணி சுமார் இரண்டு இருக்கும்.
‘கட்டாயம் பெரியவா. உங்களோட ஆசி இருக்கறப்ப எனக்கு என்ன குறை…சேர்த்துடறேன்.’
பெரியவா முகத்தில் ஒரு சந்தோஷம். அருகில் இருந்த சிப்பந்தியை அழைத்தார். வந்தார். பெரியவா சொல்லப் போகும் உத்தரவுக்காகக் காத்திருந்தார்.
‘மேனேஜர் கிட்ட போ. 61 ரூபாய் பணம் வாங்கிண்டு வா. கூடவே ஒரு தங்கக்காசும் மடத்தோட பிரசாதமும் வாங்கிண்டு வா’.
ஓட்டமாக ஓடினார் சிப்பந்தி. ஐந்தே நிமிடத்துக்குள் பெரியவா கேட்ட அனைத்தையும் கொண்டு வந்து அவர் முன் பவ்யமாக வைத்தார். அனைத்தையும் தொட்டு ஆசிர்வதித்தார் பெரியவா. பிறகு சமஸ்கிருதக் கல்லூரி அன்பரைப் பார்த்து ‘எல்லாத்தையும் எடுத்து வைச்சுக்கோ. மடத்தோட ஆபிஸுக்குப் கல்வெட்டு சுப்ரமணியத்தோட அட்ரஸைக் கேட்டு வாங்கிக்கோ. நீ க்ஷேமமா பொறப்படு’ என்று வலது கையை உயர்த்தி ஆசிர்வதித்தார்.
அனைத்தையும் சர்வ ஜாக்கிரதையாக எடுத்துக் கொண்டு மடத்தை விட்டு வெளியேறினார் அன்பர்.
மாலை மணி ஆறை நெருங்கிக் கொண்டிருந்தது.
சூளைமேட்டில் இருக்கும் சுப்ரமணியத்தின் வீட்டுக்குள் வியர்த்து விறுவிறுக்க ஓர் இளைஞர் (சமஸ்கிருதக் கல்லூரி அன்பர்) நுழைந்தார். ‘காலையில் வரமுடியாத ஒருவர், அறுபதாம் கல்யாணத்தை விசாரிக்க இப்போது வந்திருக்கிறார் போலிருக்கிறது’ என்று வந்தவர் யார் என்று தெரியாத நிலையிலும் அவரை இன்முகத்துடன் வரவேற்று உபசரித்தார் சுப்ரமணியம்.
அன்பரே ஆரம்பித்தார். ‘நான் காஞ்சி ஸ்ரீமடத்துலேர்ந்து வர்றேன். இன்னிக்கு விளக்கு வைக்கறதுக்குள்ள உங்ககிட்ட சேர்க்கச் சொல்லி மஹா பெரியவா பிரசாதம் கொடுத்து அனுப்பி இருக்கா.”
அவ்வளவு தான்… சுப்ரமணியம் உட்பட வீட்டில் இருந்த அனைவருக்கும் ஆச்சர்யம் தாங்க முடியவில்ல்லை. அன்பரை அமரச் சொல்லி அவருக்கு முதலில் காபி கொடுத்தனர். பிரசாதத்தை வாங்கிக் கொண்ட சுப்ரமணியம் தம்பதியர், அதைக் கண்களில் ஒற்றிக்கொண்டு பூஜையறைக்குப் போனார்கள். அங்கே பிரசாதத்தை வைத்து விட்டு, மஹாபெரியவா திருவுருவத்துக்கு ஒரு சாஷ்டாங்க நமஸ்காரம் செய்தனர்.
காலையில் இருந்து பார்க்க முடியாத ஒரு சந்தோஷக்களை சுப்ரமணியத்தின் முகத்தில் திடீரெனப் பிரகாசிக்கத் தொடங்கியது. பெரியவாளிடம் இருந்து வந்த அந்தப் பிரசாதம் பற்றி அக்கம்பக்கத்து வீட்டினரை அழைத்துப் பெருமிதத்துடன் சொன்னார்.
பிரசாதம் கொண்டு வந்த அன்பர், நேரமாகிவிட்டதால் தான் புறப்படுவதாகச் சொன்னார். ஆனால் சுப்ரமணியத்தின் வீட்டில் உள்ள எவரும் அவரை புறப்பட அனுமதிக்கவில்லை. இரவு சாப்பிட்டுவிட்டுத்தான் போக வேண்டும் என்று அன்பான உத்தரவு பிறப்பித்து விட்டனர். இவர்களது வற்புறுத்தலை ஏற்றுக் கொண்டு அங்கேயே சிறிது நேரம் தங்கினார். சில நிமிடங்களுக்குப் பேசிக் கொண்டிருந்து பிறகு சாப்பிட்டு விட்டுப் புறப்படத் தயாரானார்.
அப்போது சுப்ரமணியம் வசித்து வந்த தெரு மற்றும் அக்கம் பக்கத்தில் உள்ள தெருக்கள் எல்லாம் கன்னாபின்னாவென்று தோண்டிப் போடப்பட்டிருந்தன. சாக்கடை இணைப்பு கொடுப்பதற்காக பல சாலைகளை வெட்டிப் போட்டிருந்தனர். இருள் வேறு சூழ்ந்து விட்டது.. பிரசாதம் கொண்டு வந்த அன்பர் எப்படி அவரது வீட்டுக்குப் பத்திரமாகப் போய்ச் சேருவார் என்கிற கவலை சுப்ரமணியத்துக்கு வந்தது. ‘நீங்க பத்திரமா போயிடுவீங்களா? வழி தெரியுமா? என்று அவரிடம் கேட்டார் சுப்ரமணியம்.
அதற்கு அந்த அன்பர். ‘எனக்கு வழி தெரியாது சார். இன்னிக்கு சாயங்காலம் கோடம்பாக்கம் ரயில்வே ஸ்டேஷன்லேர்ந்து இறங்கி வெளியே வந்தேன். உங்க வீட்டுக்கு எப்படி வரணும்னு எங்கேயும் விசாரிக்கலை. விசாரிச்சு விசாரிச்சு உங்க வீட்டுக்கு வந்திருந்தா, பெரியவா சொன்ன மாதிரி விளக்கு வைக்கறதுக்குள்ளே வந்திருக்க முடியாது. இன்னும் லேட் ஆகி இருக்கும்.
ஸ்டேஷனை விட்டு இறங்கினதிலிருந்து பெரியவாளே ஜோதி சொரூபமா இருந்து எனக்கு வழி காட்டிண்டே முன்னே போனார். அதைத் தொடர்ந்தபடியே அப்படியே விறுவிறுன்னு எதோ இயந்திரத்தனமா வந்துட்டேன். எப்படி வந்தேன்னு இப்ப நினைச்சாலும் ஆச்சரியமா இருக்கு.
அதனால எனக்கு இங்கேர்ந்து கோடம்பாக்கம் ரயில்வே ஸ்டேஷன் போறதுக்கு வழி தெரியாது. யாராவது என்னைக் கூட்டிண்டு கோடம்பாக்கம் ஸ்டேஷன்ல விட்டா வசதியா இருக்கும்’ என்று முடித்தாரே பார்க்கணும்!
இந்த பதிலைக் கேட்டு அங்கிருந்த அனைவரும் வெலவெலத்துப் போனார்கள். நேரம் ஆகிக் கொண்டிருக்கிறது…குறித்த காலத்துக்குள் பிரசாதம் வந்து சேர வேண்டும் என்பதற்காகப் பெரியவாளே அவருக்கு முன்னால் நடந்து, வழிகாட்டிக் கொண்டு அழைத்து வந்திருக்கிறார் என்ற செய்தி பலரையும் பிரமிக்க வைத்தது.
சுப்ரமணியத்தின் கண்களிலிருந்து நீர் தாரை தாரையாக வழிந்தது. பூஜையறைக்கு ஓடிப்போய் அங்கிருந்த மஹாபெரியவாளின் திருவுருவப் படத்துக்கு முன்னால் நின்று கை கூப்பி வணங்கினார். ‘என்னை மறக்காம பிரசாதம் அனுப்பிட்டேளே பெரியவா…. உங்களுக்கு எப்படி என்னோட நன்றியைத் தெரிவிக்கப் போறேனோ…’ என்று தேம்பித் தேம்பி அழுதார்.
சாதாரண ஒரு பக்தரின் அறுபதாம் கல்யாணத்தை நினைவில் வைத்துக் கொண்டு தான் மறந்து போய் விட்டதாகத் தன்னையே குறை கூறிக்கொண்டு பிரசாதம் அனுப்பிய கருணை என்ன!
விளக்கு வைப்பதற்குள் இந்தப் பிரசாதம் அவரது வீட்டுக்குப் போய் சேர வேண்டும் என்கிற தனது வாக்குக்கு இணங்க தானே ஜோதி சொரூபமாய் உடன் வந்து அந்த அன்பருக்கு வழி காட்டிக் கொண்டே முன்னே நடந்த ஜரூர் என்ன!
தன்னை நம்பிய பக்தன் ஒருவன், பிரசாதம் வராமல் – அதற்காக ஏங்கிக் கொண்டிருக்கிறான் என்று அறிந்து உடனே பிரசாதம் அனுப்புவதற்கு உரிய நபரைத் தேர்ந்தெடுத்த பாங்கு என்ன!
அது தான் பெரியவா! நடமாடும் தெய்வம். கருணைக்கடல்.
இது நடந்து முடிந்து சரியாக ஐந்து வருடங்களுக்குப் பிறகு திருமலை திருப்பதியில் ஸ்ரீவேங்கடாசலபதி தரிசனத்துக்காகச் சென்றிருந்தார் சுப்ரமணியத்தின் மகன் கல்யாணசுந்தரம். அங்கே தான் தங்கியிருந்த ஒரு மடத்தில் உயர் அதிகாரியாக இருந்த நபரைப் பார்த்து அதிசயித்தார்.
ஆம்! ஐந்து வருடங்களுக்கு முன் இவரது வீட்டுக்கு காஞ்சி மடத்தில் இருந்து பிரசாதம் எடுத்து வந்த சமஸ்கிருதக் கல்லூரி அன்பரே தான் அவர். மெள்ள அவரை நெருங்கித் தன்னை அறிமுகப்படுத்திக் கொண்டார் கல்யாணசுந்தரம். க்ஷண நேரத்தில் இவரை அடையாளம் கண்டு கொண்ட அந்த அன்பர் ஜோதி சொரூபமாக பெரியவா தனக்கு முன்னால் வந்து வழிகாட்டி, பிரசாதம் கொண்டு வந்த நிகழ்வைச் சொல்லி நெகிழ்ந்து போனார். கல்யாணசுந்தரம் அவரைக் கையெடுத்துக் கும்பிட்டு வணங்கித் திரும்பினார்.
பெரியவா என்றாலே ஆச்சரியம்….அற்புதம்…..அதிசயம் தானே!

Here is the English translation of the above story which ‘apsara’ had requested.
YOU HAVE TO REACH THIS BEFORE SUNSET.
Kalyanasundaram, (a MahaPeriava devotee) lives in Choolaimedu, Chennai. His father’s name is T.N.Subramaniam (Thippirajapuram Narayanasamy Subramaniam).
Subramaniam is a reputed in the research of Stone carvings (scripts carved in stones in all temples). He acquired this knowledge by himself and has researched a lot of carvings and released valuable data. MahaPeriava, who came to know about him utilized his services well. He used to get a lot of information regarding various temples which He had visited.
Subramaniam was living in Chennai with his family in the early 1950s. If MahaPeriava wanted to discuss matters relating to stone carvings, He would send a letter to Subramaniam asking him to come; if it is urgent, He would send an attendant to Chennai and inform him.
Periava and Subramaniam would normally discuss these matters after 11 P.M. MahaPeriava would ask him to clarify His doubts regarding some particular temples and Subramaniam would analyze the related stone carvings and explain to Him with proofs. On some occasions, this discussion would go up to early morning, and some attendant would come there and inform Him that it was time for morning bath; only then, they would realize the actual time then.
Subramaniam who had the blessings of MahaPeriava was to celebrate his ‘Shashtiyabthapoorthi’ (completion of 60 years), in the year 1964. The invitation was sent to Kanchi Mutt also seeking the blessings of MahaPeriava.
Let us now see how Subramaniam got His blessings.
The Shashtiyabthapoorthi was celebrated in his house in Choolaimedu, and Subramaniam wanted to get His blessings and Prasadham on that auspicious day. Shashtiyabthapoorthi function was going on accompanied by Veda Gosham, attended by relatives and friends. But Subramaniam’s face did not show the happiness and satisfaction, but was rather dull. His smile towards those who greeted him was artificial. There was a hesitation and struggle as if expecting some thing, but no enthusiasm.
‘I have MahaPeriava’s complete Anugraham. I have met Him so many times and clarified a lot of doubts; He had congratulated me many times and blessed me. My visits have given Him satisfaction and happiness; But I have not received any Anugraham or Prasadham for my Shashtiyabthapoorthi; no one from the Mutt has come so far with any message….why?’—–Subramaniam’s thoughts went this way and showed on his face. He did not share his mind with anybody.
Vedic rituals were over and Subramaniam gave ‘Sambavana’ to the scholars, prostrated before them and gave them leave.
Let us now go to Kanchi Mutt and see what has been happening there on that day at the same time.
There was a big crowd in SriMatam that day. MahaPeriava was giving Prasadham to every one, and enquiring about their ancestors. There was a particular devotee who was serving in the Samskrit college, Chennai. He had come in the early morning itself and was sitting alone and enjoying Periava’s Darsan.
About noon, he came to Periava and asked for leave, as he wanted to return to Chennai.
“Are you going to Madras ?
“Yes Periava !”
“Will you render a small help ?”—asked Periava in a childlike voice.
Samskrit college devotee was shaken. “Periava ! Why do you ask me that way? Give me the order and I will do it happily..”
“Do you know Subramaniam who does research in stone carvings?”
“I do not know personally, but I have heard of him..”
“Subramaniam has shashtiyabthapoorthi today; I only have forgotten about it till now; he had sent the invitation seeking my blessings. He will feel very sad if he does not get Prasadham today. Therefore, I will give you the Prasadham ; will you hand it over to him?…”
The person was thrilled at the thought of such a dear devotee of Periava ! “Certainly Periava ! I shall certainly do as you say “
“The important thing in this is that this Prasadham should reach him before sunset this evening. Is it possible ?”
The time then would have been 2 P.M.
“I will certainly do it Periava. I have no problem when your Anugraham is there for me..”
Periava’s happiness showed on His face. He called an attendant and told him, “Go to the manager, get 61 rupees, a gold coin and SriMatam Prasadham..”
The attendant ran from there and within five minutes, he kept all the items in front of Periava. Periava touched every item and blessed. He then looked at the Samskrit college person and told him, “Take all these things and keep them safely. Go to the office, get Subramaniam’s address and leave immediately..” and blessed him with His raised hand.
The devotee took all those items and left immediately.
The time was nearing six P.M.
One young lad (Samskrit college devotee) entered Subramaniam’s house tired and sweating. Subramaniam welcomed him with a smiling face thinking that somebody who could not attend the function in the morning, had come now !
The devotee from SriMatam said, “Periava sent prasadham through me, to be given to you before sunset today.
Subramaniam and his family members were taken aback with surprise. They asked him to sit down, and gave him coffee. They took the Prasadham and went to the Puja room. They prostrated there, before MahaPeriava’s photo. The happiness and smile which has not been there on Subramaniam’s face, came back; he called the neighbours and told them the story.
The devotee wanted to leave as it was getting late. But he was not allowed. They insisted that he had dinner and then only leave. He sat down. After talking to them for some time and finishing his dinner he started to leave.
The road where Subramaniam’s house was situated and the next roads were all dug up in all places to give connection to sewerage. It was getting dark already. Subramaniam was worried how the devotee would reach his house safely. He asked him whether he knew the way and could go safely.
“I do not know the way Sir. I got down at Kodambakkam station this evening. I did not know the way to your house. If I had enquired every one and tried to come, I would not have reached here before sunset. As soon as I alighted in the station, Periava Himself guided me from the front as ‘Jyotji Swaroopam’. I just followed that jyothi and came here mechanically. I am amazed even now how I came here. Therefore I do not know the way to Kodambakkam station. It would be nice if some one could take me and leave me in the station..”
Every one there was stunned on hearing this story. Periava Himself had guided him from the front in order to see that the Prasadham reached him before sunset ! Tears flowed down Subramaniam’s eyes. He ran to the Puja room, and cried before His photo, “ You have sent the Prasadham to me without forgetting, Periava! How am I going to show my gratitude..”
How can one explain this ‘Karunyam’ with which He remembered the shashtiyabtha poorthi of a devotee and sent the Prasadham, simultaneously finding fault with Himself that He had forgotten about it—–or the way He Himself came as Jyothi and guided the person to the devotee’s house so that it reached him before sunset—-or the way He selected the correct person to send the Prasadham to a devotee, knowing well that he would be waiting eagerly for it !
That is Periava, the ‘Prathyaksha Deyvam’, the ocean of love and kindness!
Five years after this happened, Kalyanasundaram, son of Subramaniam, had gone to Thirupathi for Darsan. He saw the officer in the choultry where he was staying and was surprised. Yes, he was none other than the person who brought the Prasadham to his house from SriMatam ! He approached him and introduced himself to that officer. He looked at Kalyanasundaram and recognized him. They talked about that incident for some time, and Kalyanasundaram took leave.
