தர்மசாஸ்திரத்தை வாழ்வின் அடித்தளமாகக் கொண்ட ஆன்றோர்கள், கடல் கடந்து செல்வதை சாஸ்திரம் அனுமதிக்காது என்பார்கள். காஞ்சி மகாபெரியவாளின் பக்தர் ஒருவர், சாஸ்திர நியதிகளை உயிராகப் போற்றி வந்தார். இவருக்கு வெளிநாட்டில் வேலை கிடைத்தது. குடும்ப நலனையும் எதிர்காலத்தையும் கருத்தில்கொண்டு, வெளிநாடு செல்லும் வாய்ப்பை ஏற்றுக்கொண்டார்.
அந்த நாட்டின் சூழலும் பணியின் தன்மையும் திருப்தியே என்றாலும், ‘சாஸ்திரத்தை மீறிவிட்டோமோ’ என்ற உறுத்தல், பக்தரை வாட்டியது. தனது மனக்கலக்கத்துக்கு மருந்தாக… மகாபெரியவாளை அனுதினமும் தியானித்து வந்தார்!
அவருக்கு காஞ்சி மகான் திருவருள் புரிந்த சம்பவத்தை உள்ளம் உருக விவரித்தார் அகிலா கார்த்திகேயன்…
”ஒரு விடுமுறையில் இந்தியா வருவதற்கான ஏற்பாடுகளை ஆசை ஆசையாகச் செய்தார். குடும்பத்தாரைப் பார்க்கப் போகிறோம் என்பதைவிட, வெகு நாட்களுக்குப் பிறகு காஞ்சி மகானைத் தரிசிக்கப் போகிறோம் என்ற குதூகலமே அவருக்கு அதிகம் இருந்தது.
சென்னை வந்ததும், விமானநிலையத்தில் இருந்து டாக்சி பிடித்து காஞ்சிபுரம் சென்றார்.
காஞ்சி மடத்தில், அன்றைய சமையல் குறித்து சிப்பந்திகளிடம் பேசிக்கொண்டிருந்தார் மகா பெரியவா. தரிசனத்துக்காக வந்திருந்த அடியவர்களுக்கு வியப்பு. ‘சமையல் இன்னின்ன மாதிரியெல்லாம் இருக்கவேண்டும் என்பது முதற்கொண்டு பெரியவா சிரத்தை எடுத்துக்கொள்கிறாரே? இதுவரை இப்படியெல்லாம் சொன்னது கிடையாதே’ என்ற ஆச்சரியம் அவர்களுக்கு.
இந்த நிலையில்தான் மடத்துக்கு வந்து சேர்ந்தார் பக்தர். மகா பெரியவாளைக் கண்டதும் நெடுஞ்சாண்கிடையாக வீழ்ந்து வணங் கினார். அவரை ஆசீர்வதித்த பெரியவா, சிப்பந்திகளை அழைத்து, ”இவருக்கு, உடனே ஆகாரம் பண்ணி வையுங்கோ” என்றார்.
வந்ததும் வராததுமாக அந்தப் பக்தரை சாப்பிட அழைத்துச் செல்லும்படி பெரியவா சொல்வது ஏன் என்று ஊழியர் களுக்குப் புரியவில்லை. ஆனால், கடல் கடந்து தன் பக்தன் வந்திருக்கிறான்; வந்ததும், தன்னைத் தரிசிக்க ஓடி வந்துவிட்டான். எனில், அவனுடைய நிலை என்ன என்பது பெரியவாளுக்குத் தெரியாதா?!
வயிறாரச் சாப்பிட்டு முடித்த பக்தர், மீண்டும் மகா பெரியவாளுக்கு எதிரில் வந்து நின்றார். அவரை உற்றுப் பார்த்த பெரியவா, ”என்ன… உன் விரதம் பூர்த்தி ஆயிடுத்தா?” என்றார் கருணையும் கரிசனமும் பொங்க.
அதைக் கேட்டு வியந்து நின்றார் பக்தர்; அவரிடமிருந்து வார்த்தைகளே வரவில்லை! ‘பெரியவா… பெரியவா…’ என்று திருப்பித் திருப்பிச் சொன்னபடியே இருந்தார்; கண்களில் கரகரவென நீர் வழிந்தது!
மெள்ளப் புன்னகைத்த காஞ்சி மகான், ”நானே சொல்லி டறேன்!” என்று ஆரம்பித்தார்… ”இவர், வெளிநாட்டுலே இருந்து வர்றார். அங்கே புறப்பட்டதுலேருந்து எந்த ஆகாரமும் எடுத்துக்கல. என்னை வந்து பார்க்கற வரைக்கும் ஆகாரம் எடுத்துக்கறதில்லேன்னு ஒரு சங்கல்பத்தோட விரதமா இருந்து, இங்க வந்து சேர்ந்திருக்கார்…” என்றவர், பக்தரைப் பார்த்து, ”என்ன நான் சொல்றது சரியான்னோ?” என்று கனிவுடன் கேட்டார்.
அவ்வளவுதான்… தரிசனத்துக்காக நின்றிருந்த அனைவரும் அசந்துபோனார்கள். எனில், அந்தப் பக்தரை கேட்கவும் வேணுமா… நெக்குருகி நின்றார் அவர்!
இதற்கு நடுவில் இன்னொரு சம்பவமும் நடந்தது. அந்த பக்தர் சாப்பிடச் சென்றிருந்த நேரத்தில், தன்னை தரிசிக்க வந்திருந்த மற்ற அன்பர்களிடம், ”வெளிநாட்டுலேருந்து இப்ப இங்கே வந்திருக்காரே… அவர்கிட்டேயிருந்து நான் என்ன கேட்டு வாங்கலாம்னு சொல்லுங்கோ” என்று கேட்டாராம்.
இதுவும் அங்கேயுள்ளவர்களுக்கு ஆச்சரியத்தை அளித்தது. ஏனெனில், எவரிடமும் ‘இதைக் கொடு, அதைக் கொடு’ என்று எதையும் கேட்டறியாதவர் பெரியவர். ஆகவே, பதில் சொல்லத் தெரியாமல் திகைத்துப் போனார்கள் அந்த அன்பர்கள்.
இந்த வேளையில்தான்… சாப்பிட்டு முடித்து மீண்டும் பெரியவாளைத் தரிசிக்க வந்தார் அந்த பக்தர்! அவரையும் சுற்றியிருந்த மற்ற அடியவர்களையும் மெல்லிய சிரிப்புடன் பார்த்த மகாபெரியவா, ”இவருகிட்டேயிருந்து என்ன கேட்டு வாங்கலாம்னு யாருமே சொல்லலையே…” என்று கேட்டுவிட்டு, அவரே தொடர்ந்தார்…
”சரி சரி… இவரை அழைச்சுண்டு போய், எள்ளு புண் ணாக்கையும் தையல் இலையையும் எனக்காக வாங்கித் தரச் சொல்லி, வாங்கிக்கோங்கோ!” என்றார்.
அந்த பக்தர், பரம சந்தோஷத்தில் திளைத்தார். ‘தெய்வத்துக்கு நிகரான காஞ்சி மகான், தன்னிடம் கேட்டு வாங்கிக்கொண்டாரே’ என்று நெகிழ்ந்தார்..ஆனால், மடத்தில் கைங்கர்யம் செய்பவர்களுக்கு மட்டும் சற்று தவிப்பு; ஆனால் பெரியவாளிடம் நேரே கேட்கவும் தயக்கம்!
இதையெல்லாம் உணராமல் இருப்பாரா பெரியவா. அவர்களைப் பார்த்து புன்னகைத்தவர், ”இந்த பக்தர், என் மேல ரொம்ப பக்தியா, அபிமானமா இருக்கார். எங்கிட்ட இருக்கற பிரியத்துனால எனக்கு எதையாவது சேர்ப்பிக்கணும்னு ரொம்பவும் ஆசைப்படறார். ஆனா கடல்கடந்து போனவாகிட்டேருந்து, அப்படி எதையும் வாங்கிண்டுட முடியாதபடி, தர்மம் தடுக்கறது. இருந்தாலும் எனக்கு என்னோட பக்தர் முக்கியம் இல்லையா?! அவரோட மனசை நோகவிட்டுட முடியுமா?” என்று கூறிவிட்டு சற்றே நிறுத்தியவர், மீண்டும் தொடர்ந்து பேசினார்.
”இப்போ அவர் வாங்கிண்டு வர எள்ளுப் புண்ணாக்கை, மடத்துல இருக்கிற பசு மாட்டுக்குக் கொடுங்கோ அந்தப் பசுகிட்டே இருந்து தினமும் கறக்கிற பாலை எனக்குக் கொடுங்கோ. நான் சந்தோஷமா ஏத்துக்கறேன். ஏன்னா, இப்போ அவர் கொடுத்த புண்ணாக்கைப் பசுமாடு சாப்பிட்டு, அது கொடுக்கற பாலில் அந்த தோஷம் எல்லாம் போயிடறதோன்னோ? பசு மாட்டு வழியா வந்தா எல்லாவிதமான தோஷமும் நிவர்த்தியாயிடும். அதனால அவர் மனசுல நெனச்சபடி, எனக்குக் கொடுத்த மாதிரியும் ஆச்சு. அதை நான் ஏத்துண்ட மாதிரியும் ஆச்சு. இல்லையா?” என்றார் விளக்கம் சொல்வது போல!
இப்படி, தர்மத்துக்கும் குந்தகம் இல்லாமல், தன் மீது அபிமானமும் பக்தியும் செலுத்தும் பக்தர் மனமும் ஆனந்தப்படும்படி செயல்பட்ட கருணை, மகாபெரியவாளைத் தவிர வேறு யாருக்கு இருக்கும்?

Swami Swaroopam – Mahaperiyava !! What love towards devotees !!
English Translation – Sincere apologies for any typos or mistakes.
Dharma Sastra does not allow Brahmins to go abroad crossing the ocean. One of Periyava’s devotees who follows sastras to the core had to leave overseas due to family circumstances. The devotee had a guilty feeling in his mind that he had crossed overseas against the sastras. He was praying to Sri Periyava every day.
During a summer he arranged a trip to India and came eagerly and happily. More than meeting his family he was very excited to have the darshan of Sri Periyava.
As soon as he landed in Chennai airport he took a taxi to Kanchi Puram.
In Kanchipuram, Sri Periyava was talking to cook about that day’s menu. They were wondering as Periyva never behaved like that before.
In the meanwhile, the devotee came from Chennai airpot to Kanchipiram and did a namaskaram to Periayva. Periyava immediately asked the Sri Madam staff to take him inside for food.
People did not understand why Periyava is asking the staff to take the devotee to have food as he had just arrived. But Periyava the omnipresent does know about the state of his devotee.
The devotee had food and came back to Periyava. Periyava asked him, “Is your fasting now complete?”. The devotee was spellbound and shed tears.
Periyava explained to the people around, this devotee came from abroad but took a pledge that he won’t have any thing from starting there till he meets me and was fasting all along. The devotee was humbled.
When the devotee had gone to eat food Periyava had asked people around, ‘What should he get from the devotee who came from abroad and is having food now’. People wondered as Periyava never asks anything for himself from devotees.
That was the time the devotee had his food and came to Periyava for darshan. Periyava with a smile told the
devotee to get Sesame seeds, oil cake, and stitched leaves.
The devotee was ecstatic that Periyva is asking something from him a very rare happening. But people in Sri Madam were a bit restless, also little hesitant to ask Periyava. Realizing this Periyava told them, this devotee is my parama Bhaktha, he wanted to offer me something but I cannot accept anything from people who crossed overseas. That is not Dharma, but I got to bless my devotee as well.
Feed the Sesame seeds and oil cake to Sri Madam Gho Matha (Mother Cow). Give me the milk of that cow. I will gladly accept. The Sesame seeds and oil cake consumed by Gho Matha destroys all the doshams. All doshams gets eradicated when it comes through Gho Matha. It satisfies the devotees objective of offering me as well.
Who else will adhere to Dharma as well as show his grace to devotees as Periyava did. Ram Ram
