மேற்கு மாம்பலம் சங்கர மடத்தின் பின்புறம். மாலை நேரம். பெரியவாளுக்கு தாங்க முடியாத வயிற்றுவலி. சுருண்டு சுருண்டு படுத்து, கைகளால் அடி வயிற்றைப் பிசைந்து பிசைந்து மிகவும் வேதனைப்பட்டுக் கொண்டிருந்தார். சுற்றி நின்றிருந்த அத்தனை பேரும் துடிதுடித்துப் போயினர். சிலர் கண்ணீர் விட்டு அழுதனர்.
ஒருவர், ‘பெரியவாளுக்குக் கூடவா இப்படியெல்லாம் வரும்! எங்களாலே தாங்க முடியலையே’ என்று ‘ஓ’ வென்று கதறி விட்டார்.
‘பெரியவாளும் மனுஷா தானே. கர்மாவாலே தான் இந்த உடம்பு வந்திருக்கு. அதக்குண்டானதை இந்தச் சரீரம் அனுபவிச்சுத் தானே ஆகணும்’ என்று கூறினார். சற்றைக்கெல்லாம் வலி நீங்கப் பெற்று சாதாரணமாகி விட்டார்.
அப்போது மடத்து யானை காமாட்சி, தீப நமஸ்காரம் முடிந்து பெரியவாளிடம் வாழைப்பழம் வாங்கிச் சாப்பிட வந்தது. பெரியவா ஒரு குடிலில் அமர்ந்திருந்தார். பழத்தை கையில் வைத்துக் கொண்டு யானையை உள்ளே அழைத்தார். ஆனால், சிறுவாசலில் அத்தனை பெரிய சரீரம் எப்படி நுழைய முடியும். யானைப் பாகனும் யோசித்தபடி நின்றிருந்தார்.
பெரியவா விடாமல், ‘காமாட்சி, உள்ளே வந்து வாங்கிக்கோ’ என்று மீண்டும் அழைத்தார். அடுத்த கணம் நம்பமுடியாத அதிசயம் நிகழ்ந்தது. அந்தப் பெரிய யானை தன் உடலை மிகவும் அழகாகச் சுருக்கிக் கொண்டு அந்தக் குறுகிய வாசற்படியில் நுழைந்து, பெரியவாளிடம் பழத்தைப் பெற்றுக் கொண்டு, பின்னால் நகர்ந்த படியே வெளியே வந்தது.
‘பெரியவாளும் மனுஷா தானே’ என்று பெரியவா கூறின அடுத்த கணம் இந்த அதிசயம்! இது அவர் திருவிளையாடல் என்று தான் நம்மால் கூற முடியும். வேறென்ன தெரியும் நமக்கு!

The ordinary extra-ordinary !
The rear of west Mambalam’s Shankara Matam. Evening time. Periyava was suffering with unbearable stomach ache. He had curled up in a foetal position and was massaging His abdomen with His hands and was visibly suffering. People who were around were in agony as well. Some were openly crying.
One person said ‘Is Periyava also not exempt from all this ? We are not able to tolerate this’, and started wailing loudly.
‘After all, Periyava is also a human being. He has acquired this body due to Karma. Whatever is due has to be experienced by it’, he said. In some time, the pain went away and He became normal.
Then, the Matam elephant, Kamakshi, came to Periyava after the ‘Deepa Namaskaram’ for accepting a banana from Him. Periyava was seated in a hut. Keeping the fruit in His hand, He called the elephant inside. But how can such a large animal enter that small opening ? Both the elephant and the mahout stood there, thinking.
Periyava did not give up and called it again, ‘Kamakshi, come inside and take this fruit’. The next moment, an unbelievable thing happened. That big elephant very beautifully curled up its body, entered that small opening, took the fruit from Periyava, reversed and came out !
The very next moment somebody said ‘After all, Periyava is also a human being’, this miracle happened. We can just say that this is another one of his Leelas. What else can we say ?
