  1. I always wonder whether God exists during such incidents. Well during Tsunami also I got a similar question. I’m sure this situation could have been handled better had there been fewer civilized citizens. In today’s commercialized world probably they will blame it on global warming. Had it been ancient world they would blame it on karma. But hats off to IAF.

This is just a question and it’s not intended to start an argument of any sorts.

  2. In a twist to people’s understanding of Uttarakhand’s monsoon mayhem,
Dwarka peeth Shankaracharya Swami Shree Swaroopananda Saraswati has blamed
the sex-food-fun oriented consumerism propagated by tour operators in the land
otherwise known as “dev bhoomi” for the plight of thousands of pilgrims.

In a telephonic interview from his ashram near Haridwar, the Shankaracharya told rediff.com, “Uttarakhand is the land of gods and goddesses. Here Lord Shiva holds Ganga in his jata (hair). It is the highest tapsaya (penance) possible. Shiva bore the force of the Ganga all alone so that she can flow seamlessly. How can you have honeymoon tourism in Uttarakhand instead of pilgrimage to cleanse the soul and attain nirvana?”

Asserting that these mountains were not for the newly-married to enjoy their honeymoon, the religious leader suggested that the disaster was also brought upon due to the dams that have been built on rivers of Uttarakhand.

  4. It’s a warning from the very same Rudra, protect ‘Nature’. Will the insensible atheist People Representatives & the bootlicking Bureaucracy pay diligent attention to this ! ! !

Perhaps Eshwara at Kedar thought a while to meditate in seclusion.
He is fed up with the kind of people who indulged in all sorts of money spinning ventures taking the name of god.
Affluent drives treating this paradise as tourist spots, taking all drinks, doing all sinful activities made the nature to take this auto correction.
Making concrete jungles by destroying natural jungles (deforestation) caused havoc.
I am in pain by seeing the kind of suffering undergone by the inhabitants and animals like pony horse which had perished in scores.

  9. May the pilgrims get all the blessings from Lord Siva and return safely to their place..

  10. What shocks me most is how we don’t care for those lives dying in the flood but still enjoy the photo… Perfect human psychology.

    • Two things – (1) we aren’t enjoying – just amazed with the ferociousness of the water and the majesty of Lord Shiva sitting there – I am seeing this in isolation – not with the calamity in mind. You should have seen my posting in FB about my concern on the calamity (2) I am a photographer by instinct – I can’t resist appreciating a photo from a photographer’s standpoint. Hope this explains…

      • Of course i agree with what you are saying. we are nothing when compared to the power and fury of the pancha bootham. we are made out of it. we live on it and depend on it. I am sorry , that i did not read your posting on facebook. just that impulse of the very sight of this photograph put me to think this way and it has got nothing to do with who photographed it and with what intention it was captured. I just thought i must share my views about how i felt when i saw it. because i had a journalist friend stuck in the flood and had a tough time coming out of it.
        🙂

    • What Maheshji has written in reply is perfectly correct. We are not enjoying but viewing with respect the Power of Shiva. We raed that the falling of Ganges from heavens on Shiva’s head thus bringing Ganga to earth was preposterous and only He saved world from being wiped out.We read these in our school days but now this is just a small visual in this sinning world.Did not The great Adi Shankara say”Punarapi Jananam ,Punarapi Maranam in his Bhaja Govindam was an warning message -go to correct path otherwise He will give us our destiny was an warning through these floods now.

  11. One of my friends went to Badrinathath and returned few days back. After his arrival at Chennai, this news of heavy floods and disaster followed wth 62000 pilgrims stranard had shown in TV Channels. The family consists of his father who is 93 year old and mother who is in eighties. His father who was government employee and who used to chant vedas daily both in the morning and evening even from his school daysl. This is his routine from the date of upanayanam and continued even today. This example shows the power of Vedas which has saved along with the whole family fromt this disaster. There is no doubt ofthe doctrine “Vedo rakshathi rakishithaha” Our Mahaperyaval words are very much true. JAYA JAYA SANKARA HARA HARA SANKARA

  12. Stark reminder that in even in Uzhikkaalam, Parameswaran is our only focal point of surrender. Lord Siva has Ganges on His Head and watches Her flowing all round Him! I learn that even Kedarnath Temple is affected somewhat. May the pilgrims all complete their trip and return safely by Maha Periyava’s Grace! Maha Periyava ThiruvadigaLee CharaNam!

  13. JAYA JAYA SHANKARA HARA HARA SHANKARA

  14. Actually HE is in a sitting posture in that! :)) I was there 2 weeks ago!
