நீங்க எல்லாரும் காயத்ரி ஜபத்த விட்டதோட விளைவு தான் இது

Thanks to Sri Srinivasan Balaji for sharing this in FB….

This is the result of you giving up chanting of the Gayathri Mantram

We criticize people who forcibly cut the ‘PooNal’. But something like this happened when MahaPeriyava was physically alive. Some Brahmins went to him and complained. “Periyava, we are unable to step on to the road. Some athiests keep making fun of us. Sometimes they forcibly cut our ‘PooNal’. We are having to look out for them before we step out.”

MahaPeriyava replied, “If you are now scared of those people, they are not the reason for it. You have brought this upon yourselves. This is the result of you giving up chanting of the Gayathri Mantram. They have not risen up to your level. You have fallen down to their’s. Do chanting of the Gayathri Mantram consistently. Everything will become allright”

  1. Thanks for all the interesting comments. No doubt Sandhya and Gayathr are the most important ritual for the Twice-Born (not Brahmins alone).
But the crux of the matter is that the Brahmin Community as a whole have forgotten the eight-fold Virtues prescribed by the Dharma-Shastras, which are the pre-requisite for the Vedic Study.
It lists eight virtues that a Brahmin must inculcate: compassion, patience, lack of envy, purification, tranquillity, auspicious disposition, generosity and lack of greed, the first and last quality being the pillars of Brahminhood. Any Brahmin must inculcate these qualities before embarking on their journey of Vedic Path.
A Brahmin, even if he has only basic Vedic Knowledge, but possesses the above qualities will be definitely respected even by atheists.
But how many of us strive to possess even a few of these qualities? Most of us, including the majority of the Vaideekas, have thrown these teachings to the winds in mindless pursuit of material wealth.

  2. Good thought for the mind.
But there are two aspects in this regard.
One is strictly following the Vedic Injunctions, which may be possible only for a very few chosen ones,
But another is to lead the life as per the Vedic Injunctions, which can be done in any country, in any situation, at any time.
We have to underscore that to be a true Brahmins we must develop the eight virtues laid down by the Dharma-Shastras.
We must inculcate: compassion, patience, lack of envy, purification, tranquility, auspicious disposition, generosity and lack of greed.
It is of paramount importance for a Brahmin to develop these qualities as they perform rites and rituals,
Mere study of Vedic Texts, including Sandhyavandanam, is of NO use without inculcating the above vitures within us.
When these qualitis are absent, then even erudite Vedic Pundits who have mastered the Vedic Texts lose respect in the Society.
Where as a man of simple Vedic Learning, if He/She acq.
    This the real reason

  3. My fathers maternal grandfather was a scholar respected by Periyava himself….btu most in the family left this profession and even one of the family girls married a muslim after conversion… However, when my father met him in 1975 . Periyava asked when was my mother due for delivery….. he then blessed my father … and i was born.. my father edcuted me normal ways… liek BE and MBA fro ma to pcollege and i am earning well. today.. But he put poonal when i was 9 and taught me regular parayanam and simple vedic chanting including a few upanishads…. I was given 1 rupee or 2 or even 5 rupees to attend classes….by my dad… i;m 40 years today and i still remember many things he taught me when i was 9-14…. Thanks to the blessings of various acharyas and my guru. I’ve gotten back on the track…and am just hoping one my sons will become a sanyasi eventually…..i dont want them to learn vedas for doing rituals ….i want them to be good brahmins… TO EARN THE TITLE….” Brahma janati brahmanah…..” (Aireya brahmana.)..

All my college days and eaerly job i was regular in sandhyavandanam.. and I can vouch for the power of Gayathri…..it will save andprotect us from papa and cleanse us of karma…..

  4. I can prove his statement.i have once heard that atheists ran to periyava to attack him.he did nothing but simply watched them.suddenly they received a command from their leader that periyava must not be attacked! They returned.thus periyava’s anushtanam saved him.
others can be like him if they can practice 3 time Sandhya.but how is it possible today.even if we will i find today’s work stress is challenging even 1 time Sandhya vandanam.but i am sure in one thing.at least in life time I ought to study rudram, camakam, purusa and Sri suktam.by this small work I may contribute to a little of my duty to study Veda.

  5. As I have mentioned on my given below message.
    L.MOHAN, Abu Dhabi

Nepal Disaster, Unseasonal rain etc. காயத்ரி ஜபத்த விட்டதோட விளைவு தான். Gayathri Ammbal has got 5 faces. it denotes Pancha poothangal. Gayathi Mantra also to be recited with 5 breaks. As i have mentioned that this is also one Dharmam we do for the society. Not only by giving Money is Dharmam, this is also important. By doing this, how much contribution we are doing for the society. May the God bless everyone and everywhere. Mahaperiyava Charanam. If everyone start doing this what will be effect.

  6. What Maha Periayvaa said is ‘Parama Sathyam’.
Performing a daily routine like Sandhyavandanam does not require anything except the willingness of the person concerned.

The ‘hatred’ for brahmins is not because of the ‘poonool’ alone.
it is because most of them (though not all) have entrenched themselves in MNCs.
They don’t follow any of the ‘Aacharams’ ordained on them for spiritual progress but play the ‘touch-me-not’ drama to perfection.
Last but not the least the greed for money and materialistic outlook have brought about our downfall.
The urchins on the street exploit this aspect to perform such ‘poonool-cutting’ festivities.

Many staunch devotees of Maha Periayavaa who have put into practice the ‘Vaideeka-Dharma’ are the real beacon-light for all of us.
Such people are respected by all class of people despite their orthodox manners and customs.
Periavaa had earlier declared that ‘If a Brahmin follows the traditions and lives a simple and truthful life, then every person on this earth will respect him.

But I am surprised by the comments of Sri Sankaran on Vedic boys not getting girls.
First we have to understand that most of the Vaideeka Brahmananas marry well in time (unlike our Software/MNC professional children who don’t get ‘suitable’ girls even after crossing 30/35 years).
But how many parents encourage their sons in Vedic studies.
These parents want their children to do BE(Computer Science) and settle down in USA, at any cost.
How many parents encourage their daughters to marry such a ‘Veda-Vithu’. ?
So why blame the younger generation alone for this ?

As correctly said it is the generation of 50s and 60s who have to reform themselves and set an example for the younger generation.
May Maha Periyava guide and Bless us all.

    • I know a family of not so ritual or religious nature ( not much of anushtanams)…. but god loving family. HE worked in insurance. He educated his elder son in computers MCA or so…. and send his younger son to veda patashala in kanchi…. Bala periyava was liking this boy very much… Today he is a good brahmin and does regular purohitam….after adhayayanam…. he is respected for his knowledge and nis nitya anushtanams…

If only Brahmins do atleast 1 time sandhya and 108 gayathri…they can calim ot be brahmin…. just wearing thread is liek wearing some kasi kayar…..anyone can wear…

  7. Sri Gurubhyo Namaha! Hara Hara Shankara, Jaya Jaya Shankara! It is simple laziness and Asiraddhai to claim that one is not able to do Sandhyavandhanam, Gayathri Japam due to living abroad, pressure of work etc. If one has the will, there will be a way to carry it out. Maha Periyava’s Upadesam has an Eternal Truth in it and if one wishes, he can follow it. It will only benefit him. If he does not follow it, he will be the loser. Hara Hara Shankara, Jaya Jaya Shankara!

  8. This is the result of you giving up chanting of the Gayathri Mantram

  9. doing sandhyavandhanm and gayathri japam as a matter of routine is mandatory for all brahmins. I am one of the beneficiaries of observing this,, mentally and materially the karma gives alot of comfort and I have passed on this message to my relatives too.

    • very good & super. This is only beginning. You have started to realise. This can not be explained to anyone. By doing everyone should realise. Later you will start, your body is different from Athma. As I have mentioned in other place, Scooter is different and driver is different. Scooter eats, run, releasing waste, making sound etc. Scooter thinks everything is happening of its own. It is forgetting the driver. Once the driver goes away, it cannot stand also. Similarly, our driver is inside. Driver can be seen with your third eye (once the Chittem has cleaned). Present two eyes can only see the things, which will be disappeared/destroyed. Scooter and human difference is, it does not have brain. We have brain to read the Veda or to follow Bagavat Geetha, to listen & see the advices of Guru. Also God has created Liquor and all other bad things. Here brain & self control (all parts of the body) is essential to get Good Karmas. Whole world is opening many Care Centres i.e. making Shelters for different type of persons i.e poor, special etc.. If the present siutation continues, it will increase more and more in future. Wolrd should start to find the root cause for this and to take steps to curtail the number increases. To start earn & save for Athma, which is permanent. Body is only temporary. Somehow, in the present Janam/life we will swim. Think about future Janam/life. From this chain we have to come out. Finally, all karmas will go and Yogam will attain (connection with Paramathma and Jeevathma).

  10. Mahesh,
While we need to do sandhyavandanam and Gayathri as per Periyava’s words, just taking the blame on us is being docile.
It is a clear injustice and violation of human rights of a Brahmin committed and we need to condemn it and voice against it the same way we did for gorakshanam episode.

  11. True Mr Sankaran,
But Doing sandhya Vandanam Does not obstruct your regular work i believe.

    • Yes. I agree Sandya vandanam is a mandatory duty / ritual for all Brahmins. The point I mentioned was a response to Mohan (Abu Dhabi) regarding the Brahmins present day life and what is the cause of disappearance of Agraharams?

Even today, how many well employed Brahmins want their sons to study Vedas fulltime and lead a Vedic life and how many Brahmin girls are ready to marry Vedic Scholars and Purohits?
I am aware that many Vedic purohits saying that they don’t want their kids to continue that life and want them to go for job. We need to introspect on this and why even our people go to the extent of their kids quitting Vedic studies.

In addition to economics, there is a well spread Brahmin hatred thru out India that makes the life of Brahmins to pursue a life of spirituality in OPEN. All tend to keep within their homes only.

That’s why I said the Vedic Infrastructure is broken beyond repair and Brahmins have to struggle like Jewish community.

      • hi…kindly read below, reply to kumar

      • Sri N. Sankaran

I don’t see that much calamity has come to Brahmins. Although Majority (am I exaggerating?) of Brahmins left their vedic track and lingering on the new path of modern jobs, I still believe so many of us, like you and me, following silently dhaarmic values of this great way of life, called Sanatana Dharma. The strict followers like you and me can change this scene into better way, if we don’t loose our confidence. We need not fight, just continue and preach and make others to continue. Jews are beyond this scenario, they are fighting to survive, we are not, is the bottom line.

      • Balaji 690 has not seen the calamity yet…. Getting good brahmins to officiate forregular functions is so tough….

We recently did a “Tantrokta homam for Narasimhar with parivara devata”… As our regular priest is not conversant , we requested a family friend , a Vaishnava and a devi upasaka to perform the homa….TI required enormous Shraddha and I think we managed to show 0.00001% of it…. REquired one mandala of purity and achara, and atleast 1 week of shuddhi wiht japa, temple visits etc… Though the homam is not elaborate, it requires strong anushtanams… and we had to feed 3 brahmins finally….

We could see the effects of homa on same day itself….( Cant explain here)…. But one important thing. Not sure if it was any less achara of brahmin we engaged for bhojana or was it gods grace…this person met with accident and ended up in surgery on his leg…..

MAntra or tantra requires so much of purity and achara and anushtana that even the performer of the homa had to atleast do some 20000 to 30000 japa to purify himself and prepare for atleast 1 week before the homa…

The message is .. if we do it right way, we WILL GET THE BENEFITS……today we lack shraddha and achara adn thats why we haev given up on regular anushtanams……

  12. Guruve Charanam. If we do not follow Guru’s (including Guru Parampara) advice, we will reach to the wrong place. Because of Gayathi Japam and Argyam, Devergals powers increase and Asurargals powers decrease. As a result, Pancha Poothangals powers is in the required position (not more or not less). This is also one of the Dharmas to the society. Those days, Rajas” were giving cultivation land, houses in Agragram at free of cost, lot of Dhanams to do our duty regularly. Because of that everyone, in the town gets blessings from the God Iswar.

    • All the Hindu kings patronage to Sanatana Dharma and Vedic culture had stopped more than 700 years ago. i.e 500+ years Mughals rule and 200+ years by British rule.

Without patronage, Agraharams and Brahmins have survived this long itself, is a great wonder. The infrastructure is broken beyond repair and nobody patronizes Vedic Brahmins and their livelihood. (in Mahaswami’s word “கட்டு விட்டு போச்சு” ). Mahaswami must come back again to restore the glory of the past.

Without economics and physical protection, it is impossible to preserve the Vedic Brahmin lifestyle, given the current hatred spread about Brahmins thru out India.

I do not deny our obedience / duty to Mahaswami and his teachings. We should strive to adhere to his preachings, including myself. Due to economics and other social pressures, Brahmins have migrated from Agraharams and taken the non Vedic jobs for survival.

Can anybody / charitable Trust, boldly say they would economically support the life time livelihood of a Brahmin family?, who can live the life of a Vedic sanatana life. I bet no one is there.

I hail from a Agraharam (in a village near Kumbakonam) and have seen economic stress of Brahmin families for their day to day life and finally next generations gave up and moved to city and abroad in search of job.

      • I second the reason stated by Sri Sankaran cent percent. Although Brahmins, now in the present generation, are mostly in weaker section but as he re-born after Yagnopaveetha Dharana must perform Sandhaya Vandanam regularly everyday, unless otherwise any soothakam interrupts. In such occasions, advice from elders should be taken. I dont find any other reason as to why this ritual should be stopped. Does it mean that because we do non vedic jobs, we shall not wear Yagnopaveetha? Or does it mean that because we wear Yagnopaveetha, we should not do any non vedic jobs? As long as Dharmic way is adapted and practiced precisely, any job we do is acceptable. Pressure of job might not allow one to do Sandhyavandanam, cannot be digestible. Believe me (ask regular doers), it actually relieves the pressure from you. All those who did not study Veda need not worry and guilty of oneself, do Sandhyavandanam regularly and that will create interest in studying the rest of our Sastras, if not immediately but definitely later at some stage.

        Sarvam Krushnaarpanam!

      • Yes it is possible to economically support the life time livelihood of brahmin family for those follows real vedic bramin life by an rich individual or any institution. For this great help one who wants great admiration in bramin way of life and importance of Gayathri. In this juncture I recall a incident happened in our history. At Mahata kingdom, father of king Ashoka whose name King Bindhusara patronised all the brahmin families who follows vedic life by giving enough amount monthly. All the brahmin scholars conduct vedic yaga and chant limitless Gayathri Japam. At that time his country was in good position and all the people were safe and well. But after Asoka came into the power he stopped all facilities to brahmins. Unfortunately Asoka involved a huge war (Kalingaparani). Due to that war even he made victory his country met disastrous loss.

        V.Ramasubramanian, Kuwait

      • SImple exercises like Sandhyavandanam purifies the mind and makes one eligible for higher learning….If not any higher learning of vedas, we wil latleast manage our karma….

This is how Brahmins of older days survived…. Many people took to supporting them….

Everyone need not become priests…one can be a good chartered accountant, or a lawyer or a doctor… but Gayathri protects everyone and prepares for a higher state…

We get poor quality or priest .. many instances some even go to extent of saying devasa mantrams during puja……. Today i;ve seen many people arguing to give some 100 or 250 rs for the officiating priest… It works both ways…. the priest should be good and the kartha should be sincere and not argue with them for a 100 or a 250.. People spend a weekend wih 1000 in a mall ora restaurant… btu will hesitate to give 100 rs to a priest….

  13. True ; Let us all perform Sandhya Vandhanam and chant Gayathri manthiram as ordained by Him. Gurukrupa V kalyanaraman Doha

  14. Very True…If like other Communities, we too follow the Anushtanams prescribed to us (as much as possbile) we don’t have to be afriad of anybody….What MahaPeriyava has told is great guidance for us…Jaya Jaya Sankara, Hara Hara Sankara
