Very Blessed is Balu Mama indeed.Whenever I go to Kanchi,I make it a point to touch his feet and he will refuse as always!Touching incidents!!
While we are all enjoying this wonderful incidents from Mahaperiyava’s life, It is also very important to leave the right version of truth from his life incidents and teachings. I still remember Ganesh Sarma mentioning, in one of the early videos, that this effort of recording the experiences of bhaktas who have interacted with Mahaperiya is not just for our bhaktivardhanam but for leaving this invaluable treasure for the generations to come.
In this light, it also becomes important to paint the right picture. For instance, with all due respects to Sri. Balu mama, who is a treasure house of knowledge on Periyava, I feel that the context in which periyava classifies brahmanas into 4 varnas is missing in this interview. This context, fortunately was available in a different interview, where Periyava had mentioned to the interviewee that Tamil brahmanas are doing brithyam (paid service – like work at bank, etc) and hence are equated to doing the vritti of the 4th varna. On the same scale, during those times (some 30 years back), Telugu brahmanas (a good number) were still adhering to brahmana dharma by living a vaidika-jivanam and hence would be counted as true brahmanas among brahmanas. With the same measurement, the Marathi brahmanas (Konkanasthas – peshwas and others in that clan, some deshasthas of places like Sangli) look weapons and fought the Mughals and the British and continued a Kshatriya vritti. The Marwari, mehwari areas saw brahmanas go into vaishya vritti as the support from kings declined and vaidika dharma started losing strength. This description fits well with the explanation of Balu mama as heard from Periyava. There are several such occasions in other interviews, where the viewers may be misled with half truths and even a complete misrepresentation of periyava’s words/teachings.
Now, the general viewer is not going to have this context. Even if it’s evident to most of us today, there is a good chance that most viewers, after 20 years, will lose this context. The big questions for the dedicated set of volunteers who are doing this invaluable seva – “How are we going to help the cause of Truth as it stood in Periyava’s mind, words and deeds?” “And how can we preserve the truth while we preserve the overflowing bhakti in all the expressions of these fortunate bhaktas”.
I am raising this because, I see this effort to be among the most valuable inputs for mankind. This effort is parallel to/intertwined with a reading of Deivathin Kural. Just that this is in a different media and is heard from the mouths of the bhaktas and practitioners of Periyava’s teachings unlike the kural of Periyava himself. I hope you understand my concern. Keep up the great work!
சென்ற திங்களன்று காஞ்சி சென்றிருந்தேன். ஸ்ரீ ஸ்வாமிநாதேந்த்ர ஸரஸ்வதி என்று தீக்ஷா நாமம் பெற்ற நம் ஸ்ரீ பாலு மாமா சொன்னது:

(யூகத்தின் அடிப்படையில் நாடகத்தனமான வர்ணனைகளோ அடுத்த இதழில் தொடரும் என்ற வியாபார நோக்கமோ இல்லாமல் உள்ளது உள்ளபடி சொன்னார். நிறைய ‘கதைகளைக்’ கேட்கும்போதும் படிக்குபோதும், அதிலுள்ள கற்பனையான விவரிப்புகள், இதனால் அறியப்படுவது யாதெனில் என்ற அடிப்படையில் அதை எழுதுபவர்கள் (எல்லோரும் அல்ல) சேர்க்கின்ற சுய கருத்துகள் வருங்காலத்தில் நிறைய அனுபவங்களின் நம்பகத்தன்மையைக் கு(லை)றைத்துவிடும் என்பது என் எண்ணம். அதற்கேற்றாற்போல் அத்தொண்டர் பெருந்தகையும் விஷயத்தை மட்டும் சொன்னது மிக்க மகிழ்ச்சியாய் இருந்தது. நேரம் இருப்பின், வேறு சில நல்ல பொழுதுகளில் அவர் சொன்ன பல அனுபவங்களை பதிவு செய்வேன்)
