Akshaya Thrithiyai Kainkaryam – Sri (Bala) Periyava Aagnai: Build a Maha Ganapathy Temple in Thandalam to stop atrocious conversion activities

Jaya Jaya Sankara Hara Hara Sankara,

You may not recall any posting or appeal for building a new temple in our Sage of Kanchi blog/Periyava kainkaryam group since the focus is always (rightly so) on renovating the old temples. However there comes a time we need to be strategic about the things we do and this Kainkaryam falls in that category.

On the eve of this auspicious Akshaya Thrithiyai, I want to let you know of Sri (Bala) Periyava Aagnai that HH wants Sage of Kanchi/Periyava Kainkaryam devotees to undertake. Sri (HH) Periyava’s Avathara Sthalam is Thandalam. Hardly a couple of kms from this place there is a financially poor community of around 30 families living here. This place has been donated to them by a noble soul and is located in the outskirts of Thandalam village.

As you may be aware, these are the kind of places the conversion merchant’s target. They come and build churches outside villages where few people live, lure them by money/other cheap means and finally convert them. After conversion, they hoodwink them to convert their extended families/friends. Using the same tactic, they built a church here and invited the villagers to do japam. They successfully converted 3 families and this matter reached Sri Periyava’s ears. Since there are no temples (new/old) in this area, Sri Periyava opines building a Maha Ganapathy temple here will stop this menace.  Having a Vinayagar temple here and celebrating all the important festivals along with Sanatana Dharma spiritual discourses (upanyasams) will definitely change the situation here is what the villagers say in unison. They even say they can reconvert the people who already converted but need a conductive environment to do so. I went to this place twice and strongly feel we need to have a temple here. The plan is to construct the temple as per Agama Sastras and do Maha Kumbabishekam with Periyava’s blessings. After Maha Kumbabishekam, the villagers has assured to employ a brahmin priest to do daily pujas as per Agama Sastras.

A few kms from here there is another place where we have a similar situation and we need to build a Perumal/Ambal temple but we can do it as a separate project. For now, on war footing, let’s focus on starting this Vinayagar temple project and get it completed in the next couple of months.

I urge all of you to come forward and contribute towards this great cause and help fulfill Sri Periyava Aagnai. Maha Periyava has explained a lot about this unfair religious conversion and how the government is turning a blind eye to it in Deivathin Kural Vol 7 under the section ‘Arasu’.

Below is the project estimate from Shri Gopal Sthapathy and a few pictures/video clip of the current state. The Maha Ganapathy temple will be built in the place where there is a small hut with a hay stack in front of it.

Total Funds Needed: Rs. 8,50,000 (Temple construction + Maha Kumbabishekam expenses)
