இரு பிறப்பாளர் என்னும் பிரம்ம-க்ஷத்ரிய-வைசியர்கள் பிரதிதினமும் மூன்று வேளையும் பண்ண வேண்டிய அஸ்திரப் பிரயோகம் ஒன்று இருக்கிறது. அஸுரர்களை, அதாவது லோகத்தைச் சூழ்ந்துள்ள கெட்ட சக்திகளை, நாசம் பண்ணுவதற்காக இந்த அஸ்திரப் பிரயோகம் ஒன்று இருக்கிறது. அஸ்திரம் என்றால் ஒன்றை மந்திர பூர்வமாக விட்டு எறிகிறதல்லவா? அந்த அஸ்திரம் எது? எதை விட்டெறிகிறது? ஜனங்களுடைய புத்தியை ஆசிரயித்திருக்கிற அஸுரர்கள் தொலைய வேண்டுமென்று ஜலத்தை விட்டு எறிகிறதுதான் அஸ்திரமாகிறது. இதுதான் ஸந்தியா வந்தன அர்க்யம். ‘பாபம், பொய் முதலியவை தொலைய வேண்டும். ஞான ஸூரியன் பிரகாசிக்க வேண்டும். அது பிரகாசிக்காமல் பண்ணிக் கொண்டு உள்ளே இருக்கிற பிரதிபந்தகங்கள் [இடையூறுகள்] நிவர்த்தியாக வேண்டும்’ என்று அந்த அஸ்திரப் பிரயோகம் பண்ண வேண்டும். ஒவ்வொரு நாளும் மூன்று வேளை பண்ண வேண்டும். எந்தக் காரியம் பண்ணினாலும் பண்ணாவிட்டாலும் மூச்சைப் பிடித்துக் கொண்டு இதைப் பண்ண வேண்டும். – ஜகத்குரு ஸ்ரீசந்திரசேகரேந்திர சரஸ்வதி ஸ்வாமிகளின் அருள்மொழிகள்

The twice-born (Brahmins, Kshatriyas, and Vaisyas) have the duty of discharging “Asthiras” every day to destroy asuras or the evil forces besieging mankind. Does not “Asthira” mean that which is discharged, thrown or hurled? What is the “Asthira” which is to be thrown or discharged [by the twice – born]? We throw water so as to drive away or destroy the demons or evil forces that have taken hold of the minds of people. This water, the asthira, is the same as the libation offered during sandhyavandana. We must keep this purpose in mind when we offer arghya: “May sinfulness and falsehood be annihilated.
