Aum Nama Shivaya!

Aum gham ganapataye Namaha!

In the sacred land of Tamil Nadu lies a powerful spiritual havenSri Swarnavalli Ambal Samedha Sri Muktheeswarar Temple, located in Thilatharpanapuri (also known as Sethalapathy), just 2.5 km from Koothanur.

This is no ordinary temple. It is one of the seven holiest sites in India for performing pitru karmas — sacred rites for one’s ancestors — alongside Kasi, Rameswaram, Srivanchiyam, Thiruvenkadu, Gaya, and Triveni Sangamam.

Why This Temple Matters More Than Ever:

In today’s world, many of us live far from our parents and ancestral homes, separated by careers and circumstances. While we may offer financial support, the emotional and spiritual care our elders deserve often remains out of reach. Worse still, when our loved ones pass, we may be unable to honor them with the shraddha and tharpanam rituals our tradition so deeply values. These unfulfilled duties can result in Pitru Sabam & Pitru Dosham — unrest in the souls of our ancestors, which is believed to affect our own well-being and that of future generations. This is where Thilatharpanapuri holds divine power.

The Legend of Muktheeswarar: Where Rama Found Peace for His Father:

When Lord Rama sought to perform tharpanam for his father, King Dasaratha, he placed pindams (ritual rice offerings) in several sacred locations. But each time, the pindams turned into worms — a sign of spiritual rejection. Distraught, Rama prayed to Lord Shiva, who directed him to Mantharavanam, near the Arasalar River. Rama bathed there, performed the tharpanam, and miraculously — the pindams transformed into four Lingams. Dasaratha’s soul found liberation, or mukthi, and thus the presiding deity here became known as Sri Muktheeswarar. The four Lingams, called Pitru Lingams, can still be seen in the temple’s outer praharam, alongside an idol of Rama performing the rites.

To this day, it is believed that those who perform tharpanam & other pitru related rituals here are released from Pitru Sabam and Pitru Dosham. The spiritual energy of this site is so potent that those bearing heavy karmic burdens may not even be able to reach it unless divinely destined.

The Divine Presence of Naramukha Vinayakar:

Outside the sanctum lies a rare and sacred sight: Adhi Vinayakar, also known as Naramukha Vinayakar — Ganesha with a human head. This form predates the well-known elephant-headed form and recalls the original creation by Parvati before Lord Shiva replaced His head, making the temple an even rarer spiritual treasure.

The Sacred Maha Kumbhabhishekam: A Once-in-a-Lifetime Opportunity:

The temple is undergoing major renovation and restoration at an estimated cost of ₹1 crore, graciously donated by the Hereditary TrusteesSri M.L.RM.L.N. Lakshmanan Chettiar and Sri M.L.RM.L.N. L. Ramkumar Narayanan — from their family’s own sources.

Maha Kumbhabhishekam is planned for 4th Sept 25, and will be conducted with great spiritual rigor:

  • 18 Kala Poojas, a rarity in present times, even in famous temple with huge monetary resources, strictly as mandated in the sacred Saiva Agamas, spread over 16 days (20th Aug – 4th Sept)
  • 48 days of Mandala Poojas (5th Sept – 19th Oct) to preserve and energize the spiritual sanctity

Being an extremely important ancient temple, giving relief and solace to Devotees from Pithur Sabam and Pithur Dosham, “Sivagama Praveenar”,“Sivagama Kalanidhi” Sri Dr. Swaminatha Sivachariyar is keen to perform theMaha Kumbhabhishekam with 18 Kala Poojas, strictly as per Saiva Agamas, spread over 16 days, which is a rarity now a days, even in famous, well known temples which attract huge funds, so as to preserve and enhance, if possible, the spiritual vibrancy and potency of this “need of the hour” temple.

Sri S.Parameswara Sivachariyar Memorial Charitable Trust headed by Sri.Dr.Swaminatha Sivachariyar has taken up the task of mobilising funds & performing the Maha Kumbhabhishekam & Mandala Poojas.
