Announcing mobile app for Purnananda Lahari

For those who are not familiar with Purnananda Lahari – it is the only largest curated repository for shaktas. My guru Sri Prakashanandar has been tirelessly working for the past 12+ years in bringing several rare tantric documents to many sadhakas through this. I have been fortunate to help him in redesigning the website and also to build this mobile app. Here is our announcement about this new mobile app. Please note that none of these mantras can be chanted without proper initiation – this purely for srividya upasakas. Non-upasakas can chant the stotras, stuthis, ashtotrams, trisathi etc.

With the blessings of the GurumaNDalaM, we are excited to launch our mobile, Purnanandalahari Android and Apple App. When we started pURNAnandalahari 12 years ago, one of our key missions was to make all shareable tantric literature in an easily accessible method to the upAsakA community. Initially, we started sending the monthly PL magazines as an email attachment to email subscribers. After a few years, we created the purnanandalahari.org website to share the documents and articles on the website allowing all upAsakAs to access their content any time and notifications were sent to subscribed email addresses. A few years later, we redesigned the entire website to include daily AshtangaMs, and several other pArAyaNams. In addition, an easily searchable method of all the PL content was also included.

Continuing that trend of embracing the technological advancement and making it beneficial to the upAsaka community, we are happy to launch our Mobile App. A lot of thought process from an ease of use and content was put in designing this app. It has a lot of features that the upAsakAs will feel extremely useful for their nitya anuShTAna and pArAyaNams, naimittika anuShTAnaMs, and havans. The most interesting feature of this app is its multi-lingual capability to automatically render the Sanskrit content to the language of your choice. As a mobile app, most of the material are built into the App – which means these are accessible even when there is no internet connectivity. However, the multi-lingual transliteration rendering requires internet connectivity. From an user interface perspective, the presentation is kept as categories as rows and within each row, a major group or a topic as a Button. If there are multiple topics within each group, then pressing a button would take you to multiple lists or a drop down category. This consistent approach has been applied throughout the application.

  • Adjusting the font size can be done in 2 places – one in settings and other on the top right where it says “TT”
  • Country settings is used only for sending reminders for any vishesha dinams.
  • Global App Settings to configure the global variables.

Finally, we are a very small team and this large effort could not have been done without the motivation and continued usage of the PL site by the upAsakAs. We have done a small, focused beta release a few months ago to proof read the documents and make corrections. Despite this effort, we are sure there might be mistakes that might have slipped through. We are keen to have a error free content and if you see one, please report those errors as comments to this posting. In addition, we have a lot of ideas to enhance the App and to include more features to App. Feel free to share your ideas also as a comment to this topic.

We are confident that this will become a handy app for all the upAsakAs soon.
