மாறி ஓடிய ஆறு !
எட்டாவது வயஸில் வித்யாப்யாஸம் பூர்த்தி பண்ணி அகத்துக்கு ஆசார்யாள் திரும்பினார்.
தகப்பனார் காலமாகி விட்டார்.1
தாயாருக்கு ஆதரவாக ஆசார்யாள் கொஞ்சநாள் இருந்து வந்தார். தாயாருக்கு எவ்வளவு முக்யமான ஸ்தானம் தரவேண்டும், அவளிடம் எவ்வளவு அன்பு காட்ட வேண்டும் என்று அவர் நடத்திக் காட்டியிருக்கிறார். வயஸும் ஆகி — ரொம்ப வருஷம் புத்ர பாக்யமில்லாமலிருந்து அப்புறம் வேண்டிக் கொண்டுதானே ஆசார்யாளைப் பெற்றாள்? — பதியையும் இழந்திருந்த அம்மாவுக்கு வேண்டிய பணிவிடைகள் பண்ணினார்.
ஒரு நாள் அவளுக்கு ரொம்ப அசக்தமாக இருந்தது. அப்போதெல்லாம் ஆல்வாய்ப்புழை இப்போது போல் காலடியிலேயே ஓடிக் கொண்டிருக்கவில்லை. சிறிது தூரம் தள்ளி ஓடிக் கொண்டிருந்தது. புண்ய தீர்த்தம் என்பதால் அந்த அம்மாள் அங்கே போய்த்தான் தினமும் ஸ்நானம் செய்து வருவது வழக்கம். இப்போது தேஹ அஸெளக்யத்தால் போக முடியவில்லை. வருத்தப்பட்டாள். “இன்னிக்குப் புண்யகாலம். புண்ய தீர்த்த ஸ்நானம் பண்ண முடியாமலிருக்கே!” என்று குறைப்பட்டுக் கொண்டாள்.
“நான் ப்ரார்த்தனை பண்ணுகிறேன்” என்று ஆசார்யாள் சொல்லி அப்படியே செய்தார்.
ஈஸ்வராவதாரமானாலும் பக்தராகவே நடித்த அவதாரம் இது. அதனால்தான் முன்பு லக்ஷ்மியிடம் ப்ரார்த்தனை பண்ணினார்.
‘அம்மா உடம்பு ஸரியாகி நதிக்குப் போகணும் என்று ப்ரார்த்தித்தால் அவளொருத்திக்கு நன்மை செய்ததோடு முடிந்துவிடும். அதற்குப் பதில் எங்கேயோ ஜன நடமாட்டமில்லாத காட்டு வழியில் போய்க் கொண்டிருக்கும் நதியே இந்த க்ராமம் வழியாகப் போகும்படி ப்ரார்த்தித்துக் கொண்டால் எல்லா ஜனங்களுக்கும் நல்லதாகுமே!’ என்று நினைத்தார்.
நதியை க்ருஹத்துக்குக் கிட்டே வரும்படி வேண்டிக் கொண்டார்.
அப்படியே வந்தது!
வரும் வழியில் ஒரு க்ருஷ்ணன் கோவில் இருந்தது. நதி தடம் மாறி வந்ததில் கோவிலுக்கு ஜீர்ணம் ஏற்பட்டுவிட்டது.
எந்த நல்லதானாலும் கஷ்டமாகவும் கொஞ்சம் கலந்துதானே வருவதாயிருக்கிறது?
ஒரு ப்ராம்மணக் குழந்தை ரொம்பச் சின்ன வயஸிலேயே ஸகல வித்யைகளையும் ஸ்வீகரித்தது, கனகதாரை பொழிய வைத்தது, தாயாருக்காக நதியைத் திரும்பிவிட்டது முதலான விஷயங்கள் சுற்றுப் புறங்களிலெல்லாம் கொஞ்சம் கொஞ்சமாகப் பரவ ஆரம்பித்து, அந்த பால்யத்திலேயே அவருக்கு நிரம்ப மரியாதை ஏற்பட்டது. ஸமாசாரங்கள் அந்த ப்ரதேசத்து ராஜாவின் காதுக்குப் போயிற்று. தர்சனம் செய்ய வந்தான். ஆசார்யாள் அவனிடம் சொல்லிக் கோவிலுக்கு ஜீர்ணோத்தாரணம் பண்ணுவித்தார். லோகத்திற்கே தர்மோத்தாரணம் செய்ய வந்து, கணக்கில்லாத ஆலயங்களில் ஸாந்நித்யத்தைப் புதுப்பித்துக் கொடுத்து, வைதிக ஆராதனையை ஏற்படுத்தியவர் ஆசார்யாள். அதற்கு பால்யத்திலேயே தம்முடைய பிறந்த ஊரில் இப்படி இனாகுரேஷன் நடத்திவிட்டார்!
அந்த க்ருஷ்ணன் கோவில் இப்பவும் காலடியில் இருக்கிறது. ஆற்றுப் படுக்கையிலிருந்து கொஞ்சம் மேடான பூமியிலிருக்கிறது.
ஆசார்யாள் காலடியை விட்டு ஸந்நியாஸியாகப் புறப்படும்போதுதான் கோவில் ஜீர்ணோத்தாரணம் பண்ணி க்ருஷ்ணரை மறுபடி ப்ரதிஷ்டை பண்ணினதாகவும் கதை சொல்வதுண்டு.
இப்போது காலடியில் நதி ஓடுவதற்குக் கொஞ்ச தூரம் தள்ளியே அங்கே ஒரு காலத்தில் அது ஓடியதற்குத் தடயம் தெரிகிறதென்று சொல்கிறார்கள்.

The river that changed its course
Acharya completed his studies (विद्याभ्यास) at the age of eight and returned home.
His father had died1.
To provide solace to his mother Acharya was with her for some time. He has demonstrated how a mother should be placed on a high pedestal and how ample affection should be shown to her. She had grown old – were they not childless for a long time and got him only after specifically praying for a child? – He rendered the necessary services to his mother, who had also lost her husband.
One day, she was feeling very weak (असक्त). Those days the Alwayepuzha river was not flowing through Kalady, as it is now. It was flowing a little away. Since it is a holy river, she used to go there daily for a bath. Now she was not able to go there due to physical weakness. She felt sad. She expressed unhappiness over her inability “It is a holy day today. But I am unable to go to the holy river for a bath”.
Acharya said ‘I shall pray’ and did so.
Although he was a divine incarnation, it was an incarnation which acted only as a devotee. That is why he had earlier prayed to Lakshmi.
He thought, “If I pray that mother’s health should become alright and that she should be able to go to the river, it will end doing good only to her. Instead, if I pray that the river which is flowing somewhere in the forest where there is no movement of people, should flow through this village, it will be beneficial to all the people here’!
He prayed that the river should come near their house.
It came accordingly!
En route, there was a Krishna temple. When the river changed its course, the temple got damaged.
Any good thing comes only with a little of something bad mixed with it, is it not?
The information that a small Brahmin child had imbibed all knowledge at a very young age, made a shower of gold to pour, made the river change its course for the sake of his mother etc. gradually spread in the neighbouring areas which brought him lot of respect even at that young age. Matters reached the ears of the King of that area. He came over to have darshan. Acharya got the temple renovated through him. Acharya had come to resurrect Dharma [धर्म उद्धारणम्] in the world, renew the divine power [सान्निध्यम्] of countless number of temples and establish the Vedic mode of worship [in temples]. For this work, he got the inauguration done this way in his childhood itself, in the village he was born!
That Krishna temple is there in Kalady even today. It is on a land slightly elevated from the riverbed.
There is also a version that the temple was renovated, and Krishna was re-installed only around the time Acharya left Kalady as a Sanyasi.
A little distance away from where the river flows now, a path said to be visible indicating the place where the river had flown earlier.
