Rescuing cows from hopeless situations and giving them a graceful exit…

Vedas are the backbone of Universal welfare. Yagnyam is the backbone of that Vedas. What serves as its backbone in turn is the Kartha who performs the Yagnyam and the cow which gives the primary products offered in the Yagnyam. Therefore it becomes apparent that the cow has come to be one among the two which serve as the backbone for the world to exist and function well. That’s why it is considered that “Gho Rakshanam is Bhoo rakshanam” (preserving the cow is preserving the world). In Tamizh the saying goes thus: “Pasu Kaaththale paarinai kaththal”. It is for this reason that while praying for universal welfare it is customary to mention specifically, the cow first and then the performer and only then to pray for the entire world. – Jagadguru Chandrasekharendra Saraswathy Swamigal

Jaya Jaya Sankara Hara Hara Sankara – A few days back I mentioned about, of late, we  rescuing a lot more injured cows on the roadside.  Also, during rainy seasons cows get affected by foot and mouth disease (F&M) which if not treated properly results in death of the cow.

In these sort of situations if the butcher happens to see the injured/sick cows with no takers he claims it is his cow and takes the cow to slaughterhouse rightaway. Imagine the plight of the cow who will be slaughtered mercilessly when she is already wincing in severe pain. On the other hand, if the owner of the cow is found the situation it is far more worse. They sell the injured cows that cannot get up for a throwaway price (around Rs. 5k) and walk away happily with the money. By Periyava’s grace we have been buying those cows that are sick or injured and cannot get up and trying to treat them as best as we can in our temporary shelter. Most of the time, the injury is so fatal that the cow cannot survive. While it is very sad, there is a consolation that the cow did not get into butchers hands and we were able to give them a graceful exit that every creature deserves in the creation of Bhagawan. Few pictures below.
