Jaya Jaya Shankara Hara Hara Shankara,
Mahalaya Paksham/Pitru Paksham begins tomorrow Tue Sep 21st. Doing pithru karmas like Sharadham, Tharpanam, etc. for our ancestors is paramount; this fifteen day period is auspicious for various dhanams as well. By periyavA’s krupai, like the last few years, we would like for everyone to do the following Kainkaryams this year as well.
1. Gho dhanam
There is no better act of Punnya than Gho Dhanam (Donating a cow). It serves as a great medicine for salvation of sins. We should first make sure that the person who receives the cow as Dhanam is capable enough to look after it well and only then should offer it as Dhanam. – Jagadguru Chandrasekharendra Saraswathy Swamigal
In many cases, due to various situations we or our ancestors may not have done Gho Dhanam for our ancestors. The next couple of weeks present a rare opportunity to perform this noble act for our ancestors and for ourselves. This is a Maha Punya Kalam to perform this Kainkaryam. This is a great punya kAryam as we also rescue and rehabilitate a cow/calf each time a Gho dhanam is performed.
2. Anna dhanam
Anna dhanam during Pitru Paksham, especially Mahalaya Amavasya day, brings great punyam and peace to our family.
As many of you already know, we are able to offer regular or special Anna dhanam to many underprivileged people in old age homes, special-needs schools and poor, roadside people in the Cuddalore and Chidambaram vicinities.
3. Agathi Keerai dhanam to Roadside Cows
ThirumUlar says in his Thirumandhiram – “யாவர்குமாம் பசுவுக்கு ஒரு வாயுறை” – “Everyone may offer a cow, a mouthful of food.”
Mahalaya Paksham is the most auspicious time of the year to offer Agathi Keerai to Gho Mathas and Rishabams especially the hungry and needy cows roaming in Chennai eating plastics.
4. Pakshi bhojanam to Crows
Our shastrams say that our ancestors visit us in the form of crows. What better time to offer them food than the Pitru Paksha kaalam?
5. Brahmana Bhojanam and Vasthra Kainkaryam
Bhojanam to vaideeka/non-vaideeka Brahmanas can be arranged. Kumara bhojanam can be arranged at Veda Patashalas as well.
6. Jeeva Karunya Kainkaryams
Feed roadside stray dogs, varahams, etc. who are starving for food.
How to Participate?
For every kainkaryam that you are interested in participating we will send pictures/video clips for your visibility. If you are interested in doing any of the above mentioned dhanams please let us know by sending an e-mail to donations@kgpfoundation.org, jayaram_t@yahoo.com.
We never know what abacharam or papam we committed to many jeevarasis knowingly or unknowingly. Let’s us do our bit as a prachatiyam by feeding all these jeevans during this auspicious time. Posting a few picture below.
