அன்னதானத்துக்கு என்ன விசேஷம் என்றால் “இதிலேதான் ஒருத்தரைப் பூர்ணமாகத் திருப்திப்படுத்த முடியும்”. பணம், காசு, வஸ்த்ரம், நகை, பூமி, வீடு இந்த மாதிரியானவற்றை எவ்வளவு கொடுத்தாலும் வாங்கிக் கொள்கிறவன் அதற்குமேல் தந்தாலும், ‘வேண்டாம்’ என்று சொல்லமாட்டான். அன்னம் போடுகிற போதுதான் ஒருத்தன் என்னதான் முட்ட முட்டச் சாப்பிட்டாலும், ஓர் அளவுக்கு மேல் சாப்பிட முடியாது. ‘த்ருப்தோஸ்மி: போதும்’ என்று சொல்கிறான். அந்த அளவுக்கு மேல் போய் விட்டால், “ஐயையோ! இனிமேல் போடாதீர்கள்” என்று மன்றாடவே செய்கிறான். இம்மாதிரி ஒருத்தன் பூர்ண மனஸோடு திருப்தி தெரிவிக்கிறபோதுதான் தாதாவுக்கும் தானத்தின் பலன் பூர்ணமாகக் கிடைக்கும். நேராக உயிரோடு உடம்பைச் சேர்த்து வைத்து ரக்ஷிப்பதும் அன்னம்தான். அதனால்தான் ‘உண்டி கொடுத்தார் உயிர் கொடுத்தாரே’ என்று சொல்லியிருக்கிறது. – ஜகத்குரு ஸ்ரீசந்திரசேகரேந்திர சரஸ்வதி ஸ்வாமிகளின் அருள்மொழிகள்

“Annadhaanam” or the charity of giving food is the only charity that completely satisfies the beneficiary. When we donate land, houses, cash, clothes or jewels, the beneficiary will never be satisfied how much ever we give him. Only when a person is consuming food, he cannot do so beyond a certain limit. Even if we offer him more food, he begs us to stop. He is satisfied; his stomach is full. When a person expresses such a kind of complete satisfaction, the donor gets the full benefit of the charity he has performed. It is food that keeps a body and soul together. Jaya Jaya Sankara Hara Hara Sankara – With Annapoorani Periyava’s Anugraham and all of your support we could provide over 10,000 meals to old, poor and needy last month (April ’21). On an average one meal costs around Rs. 35. This Kainkaryam assumes so much significance in the challenging times we are in. There are so many poor people who have lost their small time jobs due to this pandemic and are struggling to put food in the table. In rural areas it is even more bad where many of these poor people’s struggles and plight are not visible to the outside world. Those are the areas we prefer to focus on rather than places that are reasonably well funded. The places we feed is around the outskirts of Cuddalore, Panruti areas. There are so many roadside people who are old, poor and homeless that are banking on the prasadam served at the ancient temples. However, now with lockdown and so many other restrictions in place many of them are hungry and hardly have one meal a day. You can see the condition of the people in the pictures below, I always believe money in bank is of no use if we don’t step up and help poor, needy, and voiceless at the times of need.
