Tiruvisanallur is a serene village on the banks of Cauvery river where lived the great Mahan Sri Sridhara Ayyaval who performed the miracle of making the Holy Ganges to spring from the well of his house by his yogic power about three centuries ago. In this Village in 1896 Sri Nilakanta Sastrigal established a Veda Kavya Patasala and it functioned till his demise in 1921.

After his demise Sri V Krishnaswamy Iyer Sanskrit Educational Trust (Mylapore Sanskrit College) took the responsibility and maintained the Patasala till 2005. Since 2005 due to the demise of the Veda Teacher it has ceased to function. Eminent Vedic and Sastra scholars like Gudalur Sastrigal, Balakrishna Sastrigal are alumni of this Veda Patasala.

During the last 15 years tiled house which housed the Veda Patasala fell in to disrepair and is in dilapidated condition at present.

With the blessings of His Holiness Pujyasri Sankaracharya Swamigal of Kanchi Mutt, efforts made by few devotees have borne fruit. An MOU has been signed between Kalavai Guruparampara Veda Vidya Trust and Sri V Krishnaswamy Iyer Sanskrit educational Trust (Mylapore sanskrit College) to take steps to revive the Sri Nilakanta Veda Kavya Patasala at Tiruvisanallur.

Kalavai Guruparampara Veda Vidya Trust sponsored by His Holiness Pujyasri Sankaracharya Swamigal of Kanchi Mutt has been vested with the responsibility of maintaining the Patasala. As a first step towards revival, a building of approximately 1600 sq.ft is proposed to be constructed at an estimated cost of about 29 lakhs.

Thus, now an opportunity has presented itself before the Philanthropists interested in preservation of Vedas, a cause dear to Sri Sankaracharya Swamigal of Kanchi Mutt to participate in this Endeavour to revive the century old Vedic institution.
