While discussing contradictory things coming together in a cow we saw how the urine and dung of the cow are also sacred, didn’t we? It is in the same way that we find not the facial part of the cow but its rear portion which is considered to be extremely sacred and pure and the abode of Goddess Lakshmi. Though the cow’s face can be adorned with sandal paste and Kumkum and a garland donned around its neck for the sake of ornamentation, while doing Gho Puja, only the rear portion of the cow has to be decorated and Archanas being done there. There is no part that is inferior in a cow. Everything and every aspect of its body are sacred and superior. In Dharma Peetams like our Matam (Sri Kanchi Matam), the first worship done early in the morning every day is Gho Puja, a fact from which we can understand the elevated position the cow holds.
