கொம்பு வழியாக அபிஷேகம் என்பதோடு பஞ்சகவ்ய வஸ்துக்களான ஐந்துமே ஸ்வாமிக்கு அபிஷேகமாகின்றன.
ஐந்தில் நமக்குத் தெரிந்தது பாலபிஷேகம் மட்டுமே. அடுத்தபடியாகத் தயிரபிஷேகம். நெய்யபிஷேகம் நாம் அதிகம் கேள்விப்பட்டதில்லை. மலையாளம் திருச்சூரில் நெய்யபிஷேகம்தான். ஹிமயமலை பனிப் பாளம் மாதிரி அங்கே லிங்கத்துக்கு நிறைய நெய்யபிஷேகம் செய்திருக்கும். எத்தனை காலம் ஆனாலும் அந்த நெய் கெடுவதில்லை என்பதோடு எத்தனைக்கெத்தனை பழசோ அத்தனைக்கு அந்த நெய் ஒளஷதமாக இருக்கிறது. மலையாள வைத்யர்கள் ‘புராதன க்ருதம்’ என்று அந்தப் பழைய நெய்யையே மருந்தாகக் கொடுப்பது வழக்கம். – ஜகத்குரு ஸ்ரீ சந்திரசேகரேந்திர சரஸ்வதி ஸ்வாமிகள்

Apart from the fact that the Abhishekam is being done through cow’s horn, all the five products found in the Panchagavyam are also used in the Abhishekam done to Swamy. Out of the five, the one which is commonly known to us is only Palabhishekam (milk). Next comes, the Thayir Abhishekam (Curd). We haven’t heard much about Neyyabhishekam (ghee). In Trissur in Kerala, only Neyyabhishekam is being done for the Swamy. We can see a large amount of ghee having been showered on the Shivalinga, resembling big chunks of ice in the Himalayas. Apart from not becoming stale with the passage of time, it remains as a medicine too – the longer the time, the greater is its power.
