சாஸ்த்ரக் குடுக்கைகள்தான் கோமயம் சுத்தீகரணம் பண்ணுகிறதென்று அறியாத்தனத்தின் பேரிலும் குருட்டு நம்பிக்கையின் பேரிலும் நினைத்துக் கொண்டிருக்கிறார்கள் என்றே முன்பெல்லாம் படிப்பாளிகள் எனப்படுகிறவர்கள் எண்ணி வந்தனர். ஆனால் இப்போது ஸயன்டிஃபிக்காக -– விஞ்ஞான பூர்வமாகவே -– பசுஞ்சாணத்தின் சுத்தீகரண சக்தியை ஏற்றுக் கொண்டிருக்கிறார்கள். நாஸ்திக ருஷ்யாவின் விஞ்ஞானிகளே வரட்டிப் புகை மிகவும் சக்தியுள்ள disinfectant, anti-pollutant என்று பரிசோதனைகள் மூலம் கண்டுபிடித்துச் சொல்லியிருக்கிறார்கள். ஸமீபத்தில் ரொம்பவும் ஆச்சர்யமாக ஒன்று ந்யூஸ் பேப்பரிலேயே பெரிசாகப் போட்டு வந்ததைப் பார்த்தோம் -– போபாலில் நடந்த பயங்கரமான ‘காஸ் லீக்கேஜ்’ விபத்தில் ஊர் பூராவும் ஜனங்களும் மிருகங்களும் ப்ராணன் போயும், ப்ரஜ்ஞா பங்கமாயும் பலவிதமான ரோகங்களுக்கு ஆளாகியும் சாய்ந்த போதிலும் அக்னிஹோத்ரப் புகை சூழ்ந்திருந்த ஒரு க்ருஹத்தில் மட்டும் ஹானியும் ஏற்படாமல் ஸ்வஸ்தமாக இருந்தார்கள் என்று ந்யூஸ் படித்தோம்.

ஆனால் இந்த இடத்தில் கோமயத்துக்கு மட்டுமே முழு ‘க்ரெடிட்’டும் தருவது ஸரியல்ல. சாணம் ஒரு சிறந்த விஷநாசினிதான் என்றால்கூட இங்கே அந்த சாணத்தை உபயோகித்துப் பண்ணிய அக்னிஹோத்ரம் என்ற மந்த்ர பூர்வமான வைதிக கர்மாவுக்கே முக்யம். கோமயத்தின் வீர்யம் மாத்திரமில்லாமல், அதைவிட அதிகமாக மந்த்ர வீர்யமே விஷவாயுவை முறித்திருக்கும். ஆனாலும் மந்த்ரத்தை வெறும் ஜபமாக மாத்திரம் செய்யாமல் யஜ்ஞம் என்கிற கிரியையோடு சேர்த்து வைத்திருக்கும்போது அந்த யஜ்ஞத்தில் சாஸ்த்ரோக்தமாக உபயோகிக்கப்படும் த்ரவ்யங்கள் [திரவியங்கள்] உபகரணங்கள் ஆகியவற்றின் வீர்யசக்தியும் மந்த்ர சக்தியோடு சேர்ந்தே பூர்ண பலனை உண்டாக்குகிறது. அப்படிப் பார்த்தால் விஷவாயுவைப் போக்கியதில் கோமயத்துக்கும் நிச்சயமாக ஒரு பங்கு உண்டு என்றே ஆகும்.

கோமயத்துக்குத் தனிப்பட்ட முறையில் இருக்கப்பட்ட சுத்திகரண சக்தி அதோடு நின்றுவிடாமல், அது யஜ்ஞத்தில் ப்ரயோஜனமாகிறபோது அதுவே மந்த்ர சக்தியை ரக்ஷித்துக் கொடுத்து, அந்த மந்த்ர சக்திக்கு மேலும் உரமூட்டிக் கொடுப்பதே அதன் விசேஷம்; வைதிகமான விசேஷம். யஜ்ஞத்தில் எந்த சுத்திகரண த்ரவ்யத்தை வேண்டுமானாலும் சேர்க்கலாம் என்று இல்லாமல் இந்த ஒன்றைத்தான் சேர்க்க வேண்டும் என்றுதானே இருக்கிறது?  – ஜகத்குரு ஸ்ரீ சந்திரசேகரேந்திர சரஸ்வதி ஸ்வாமிகள்

Previously the so called intellects were of the idea that only the Shastra-adhering men were thinking out of ignorance and superstition that cow dung really brings about hygiene. But now they have accepted the hygienic power of cow dung scientifically too. The scientists of atheistic Russia themselves have discovered after so many experiments that smoke from cow dung is a powerful disinfectant and anti-pollutant. Recently we witnessed something extremely amazing published widely in Newspapers — how during the deadly accident of gas leakage in Bhopal, when the entire population of the city including the animals, lost their lives or consciousness or inflicted by different kinds of diseases and fell down tragically, a house which was surrounded by the smoke of Agnihotram alone stood unaffected with the inmates doing fine.

But at this juncture it is not proper to give full credit to cow dung alone. Though it is an effective disinfectant, it is the Mantra-oriented Vaidhika Karma performed using the cow dung that holds importance. Instead of just the power of the cow dung alone but the power of Mantras that must have acted more on nullifying the poisonous gas. Still the Mantras, instead of being merely chanted, when it is done in unison with the act of a Yagnya, the power of the products used as per the Sastras in the Yagnya join hands with the power of the Mantras and offer benefits in totality, a “Poorna Phalan”. That way, the cow dung has its own share of importance in doing away with the poisonous gas.

Its greatness lies in the fact that it doesn’t stop just with its individual capability of purifying things but while being used in Yagnyas, it preserves the power of the Mantras and adds strength to them; which is its ritualistic specialty.
