பூமாதாவே கோமாதாவாக உருக்கொண்டதும் உண்டு. த்வாபரயுகம் முடிகிற நிலைக்கு வந்து, கலியுகம் ஆரம்பிப்பதற்கு முந்தைய ஸமயம். லோகத்திலே துஷ்ட அரசர்களின் ரூபத்தில் அஸுர சக்திகள் தலையோங்கிய அப்போது பூமாதேவியால் அந்தப் பாப பாரத்தைத் தாங்க முடியவில்லை. அப்போது பூமாதேவியும், அவளுடைய சார்பிலே பிரம்மாவும் மஹாவிஷ்ணுவிடம் முறையிட்டு பிரார்த்தித்துக் கொண்டதன் மேல்தான் பகவான் க்ருஷ்ணாவதாரம் பண்ணினார். அந்த ஸமயத்திலே தன்னுடைய முறையீடு பகவானுடைய மனஸைத் தொட்டு இறக்கி அவரை ரக்ஷணத்துக்கு வரும்படிப் பண்ண வேண்டுமானால் தான் அவருடைய பத்னியான பூமாதேவி ரூபத்திலில்லாமல் அதைவிட ப்ரியத்துக்கும் பரிவுக்கும் உரிய தாயான கோமாதா ரூபத்தில் இருந்தால்தான் முடியும் என்பதால் பூமாதாவே கோமாதாவாக உருவம் எடுத்துக் கொண்டுதான் போனாள் என்று புராணக்கதை இருக்கிறது. அதற்கேற்கத்தான் பகவான் கோபாலனாகப் பிறந்து, அந்த அவதாரத்தில் கோக்களோடு அத்யந்தமாக உறவாடினார். – ஜகத்குரு ஸ்ரீ சந்திரசேகரேந்திர சரஸ்வதி ஸ்வாமிகள்
There are times when the Bhoo Matha herself has taken the form of Gho Matha. It was the time of Dvapara Yuga approaching its end and just before the advent of Kali Yuga. When the evil forces started rearing their ugly heads in the form of Demon kings, Bhooma Devi (Mother Earth) was unable to withstand their sinful weight. At that time Bhooma Devi and Lord Brahma who came forward to represent her grievance, surrendered to Mahavishnu and prayed to Him for help and it is on their request that Bhagavan took the Krishnavatharam. There is a Puranic story which states that at that time, Bhoo Matha Herself thought if at all her grievance has to touch the heart of Vishnu and drag Him down to come to her rescue, she could not be approaching Him as His Consort but could achieve it only if she is in the form of Gho Matha who is a personification of love and compassion and therefore Bhoo Matha went to Him in the form of Gho Matha.
