எந்த சக்தியையும், திரவியத்தையும் விரயமாகச் செலவழிக்காமலும், அதே ஸமயம் ஒரேயடியாகப் பூட்டி வைத்துக் கொண்டு விடாமலும், தானும் ஸமூஹமும் பயனடையும்படி அளவறிந்து செலவழிக்கவும், காத்து வைத்துக் கொள்ளவும் வேண்டும். பயன்களில் பெரியதான ஈச்வர ஸாக்ஷாத்காரத்துக்குங்கூட அளவறிந்த இந்தப் போக்கு வழி செய்யும். ஸமநிலைக்கு வரவேண்டும். லெவலுக்கு வரவேண்டும். Water finds its level. ஜீவாத்மா லெவலுக்கும் வந்தால்தான் பரமாத்ம ஸமுத்திரத்தில் கலக்க முடியும். இதற்கு எதிலும் அளவு, மிதம் வேண்டும்.

அளவறிந்து எதையும் செய்பவரால்தான் பரம ஸத்யத்தை அறிய முடியும் என்பதைத்தான் திருமூலர், ‘கணக்கறிந்தார்க்கன்றிக் காணவொண்ணாதது கணக்கறிந்தார்க் கன்றிக் கைகூடாக் காட்சி’ (1.316) என்று சொல்லியிருக்கிறார். அவர் பண்ணின நூலுக்குத் ‘திருமந்திரம்’ என்று பெயர். அதனால் இந்த வார்த்தைகள் மந்திரம் மாதிரியானவையாகும். – ஜகத்குரு ஸ்ரீ சந்திரசேகரேந்திர ஸரஸ்வதி  ஸ்வாமிகள்

We should never spend our energies and riches recklessly, and at the same time we should not hoard without being used. We have to preserve and use them in moderation, for the benefit of the society as well as our own use.  Among all the benefits, the attainment of Eswara is the greatest. This moderation will help us in that respect too. We have to achieve balance in life. It is said that water finds its level. In the same way, only if the individual comes to a level, Jeevathma can merge with Paramatha. For achieving this (coming up to a level) we should have proper balance and moderation.

Saint Thirumoolar said in his Hymn, that only a person, who lives in moderation with proper balance, can realize the Supreme Truth. This hymn is called as ‘Thirumandiram’ and hence every word in this hymn has mystical properties (Mandiram). – Jagadguru Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswati Swamigal
