The Hindu’s book on Mahaperiyava released!

Vedic scholars were honoured during Shraddhanjali on January 8

The main hall of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan resonated with Veda Parayanam for an hour, setting the tone for a three-hour function, which was organised to pay homage to Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswati, 68th head of Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Pitam, on his 25th Aradhana Day. Veda Pata Nidhi Trust and the Bhavan had joined hands to offer this annual tribute to the Sage of Kanchi, an affair dictated by nothing but bhakti for Mahaswami and his doctrines. The houseful audience stood testimony to the fact that Mahaswami continues to move pesople, 25 years after attaining siddhi on January 8. [More …]

  1. I was very surprised to read the news and went directly to the comments section. I was very relieved that the readers reflected my mind. I stopped reading The Non Hindu at least from November 2004. I would not buy any publication from this establishment.

  3. Devotees of Kanchi Mutt are not in need of THE HINDU to appreciate HIS mahatmiyam. I am glad it is not in Vairamuthu style wo gave new credentials to Sri Aandaal.

  5. So, at last The Hindu of Chennai has come out with a book on Mahaswami! Despite its name and lineage, The Hindu has been leftist and anti–Hindu in its leanings on important issues in the last few years.[ eg..Ayodhya, Godhra train carnage, Cow protection, Aryan invasion theory, etc] ( I was a reader of the Hindu for over 50 years, before turning away ten years ago!) So it is interesting that it has come out with a book on Mahaperiyava. As the saying goes, even the devil may quote the scripture !
The Hindu has of course wonderful archives and in its halcyon days covered Hindu religious and cultural matters with genuine interest and sympathy.. Their short account of religious discourses in the last page was almost the first item we used to read! But today, The Hindu is a (pseudo) secular paper, like the general English language media in India. So, it is rather intriguing that it has come out with a book on Mahaperiyava, who is the very embodiment of orthodox Vedic religion.. Does it signify a change of heart or approach? Are they turning a new leaf? Let us hope so.
We cannot comment on the contents before going through it, but we can expect it to be good, if it is based on its archival records, and given their technical standards..
Those interested may also have a look at ” Introduction to Hindu Dharma”, a short selection of discourses by Mahaperiyava. This is a publication from World Wisdom, Bloomington USA. It is part of a world series, expertly edited by Michael Oren Fitzerald. The Indian edition was brought out by Motital Banarsidass in 2010. The publication contains 35 full page colour photos of Mahaperiya, and 87 other photos, (35 of them of Mahaperiyava) It would be interesting to note that many of these photographs were digitally restored sepia prints of old photographs from Kanchi Mutt. [The Mutt had sent them over to World Wisdom for the restoration.] This is an authentic publication as the project was approved by the Periyavas in 2004, and the manuscripts were read by representatives of the Mutt…

    • Just like Prahladha was blessed with abundant faith while at his Mother’s garbham itself despite Hiranyan being his dad, The Hindu perhaps has next generation that can come back into the fold of Sanathana Dharma – who knows?

Otherwise, The Hindu is also business minded – like every other Tamil Magazine writes on Leftism etc but also allocates 4-5 pages or even huge sized books for Mahaperiyava – so can The Hindu do. They know that in the bottom of their hearts all people yearn for a guide like HH Mahaperiyava.

The way to look at it is, HE permeates everything and keeps spreading TRUTH forever !!
