Bhagawan Sri Krishna states in Srimad Bhagawatham says that when one serves the mankind, viewing it as a form of Bhagawan Himself, it is also a kind of worship. This should not be misinterpreted to mean that regular forms of worship and festivals are not necessary. There is no point in a philanthropy which provides material benefits to people but does not elevate them spiritually during their lifetime. The point of feeding this body, curing it of all diseases and educating the mind are all done with the purpose of reaping more benefits from visiting the temples and participating in the festivals. All service towards the people is aimed at taking them closer to the Divine. So if everyone comes together and labor hard to raise a surrounding wall for a temple, it is the biggest contribution towards the welfare of the people. – Jagadguru Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi Swamigal

Jaya Jaya Sankara Hara Hara Sankara,
With Sri Periyava’s grace and blessings we had a great opportunity to participate in one of the ancient Siva temple renovation Kainkaryam; Lord Periyanayagi Samedha Sri Pasupadheeswarar Sivalingam in a village called Arasankazhani, a few kilometres away from Shollinganallur, Chennai. The Sivalinga pradishta was done by Sage Agastya more than 2000 years back. Due to the passage of time, floods, and other reasons the temple became dilapidated and only Swami remained as a ‘Vaanam Paartha Sivalingam’ in the river banks under a tree.
Few years back, the local villagers with great efforts built a small temple with whatever resources they had and started doing daily Puja in Odhuvar tradition. They also started doing Pradosha and Pournami Puja to Swami and slowly devotees started coming as well. During Pradosham and Pournami they take Swami and Ambal (Uthsavamoorthy) around the temple as pradakshinam but the surrounding landscape of the temple was so uneven that devotees struggled to do pradhakshinam. There were also issues like devotees/children slipping, falling down and getting hurt in the process. Every Pournami, they also do Girivalam to Swami and another ancient Sivalingam at the top of a hill nearby. According to them, this Girivalam happens next only to Thiruvannamalai. This is a place where conversion happens sturdily so renovating this temple and getting devotees come over is paramount.
This is the temple Adiyen accidently went to few months back for Pradosham and appraised Shri Mahesh about the status quo along with a few pictures and video clips. With our Periyava’s abundant grace and blessings this project was completed successfully. The devotees are extremely happy they can do Swami Pradakshinam without worrying about looking at the ground constantly or falling down. The happiness they shared with me are beyond words. Below are the pictures of the prior state, work in progress, and current state after completion pictures. Yet another example of how much we can all accomplish if we all join hands together.
