Your Contributions @ Work – Gho Matha Samrakshanam

Jaya Jaya Sankara Hara Hara Sankara – Couple of months back we had a great opportunity to participate in a very noble kainkaryam. There was acute shortage of water supply in Sri Gokula Krishna Gosala in Utthukottai, Thiruvallur. Since this place is in the outskirts of Chennai power cuts are pretty frequent and lengthy that sometimes lasts for days. The Gosala had a 2000 liter and 1000 liter water tank but with more than 100+ cows they run out of water supply pretty shortly. During these times the Gosala struggles to water the cows. The gosala was seeking for a 5000 liter capacity water tank and asked us if we could help.  With Sri Periyava’s grace and blessings we did the needful. This has been a timely help for the Gosala and is already helping them during lengthy power outages. Based on Gosala’s request the existing 1000 liter water tank has been taken out its current place and has been placed near the cow shed for their day to day operations.

The 5000 liter water tank has been purchased and installed in an elevated platform. This will help minimize the physical efforts of Gosala staff to bath the cows as well as clean the cow sheds. Below is the brief description and pictures for your viewing pleasure.

  1. Prior State – Two Water Tanks- 2000 and 1000 liters
  2. Purchase of 5000 liter water tank
  3. Elevated Platform for keeping the 5000 liter water tank built
  4. 5000 liter water tank installed with accessories
  5. 1000 liter water tank moved near cow shed and installed in an elevated platform
  6. Gho Mathas getting ready to drink water from the new 5000 liter water tank 🙂

A word about this Gosala – This Gosala has only pure native breed cows and almost all of them were rescued from slaughter. In my opinion, irrespective of the Gosala administration, the Key Performance Indicator of any Gosala is how well the Gho Mathas are maintained. Well not many Gosalas can boast in that regard but this Gosala certainly can. I really could not find a single skinny cow and all of them are very well fed and maintained in a pretty decent hygienic environment. Every Pradosham they also do Pradosha, Gho Matha, Rishabha, & Maha Periyava Puja. The gosala is run by Shri Natarajan and Smt. Vidhya Natarajan and they are doing a phenomenal job. They also manufacture pure Gho products that devotees can buy. A nice place to visit with our family and friends. Contact Info. below.

Key Quotes on Gho Matha Samrakshanam

தாய்க்கு இணையான பசுவுக்கு தண்ணீர் கொடுப்பதால் ஒருவன் தன்னுடைய ஏழு தலை முறை முன்னோர்களை கடைதேற்றி  விடுகிறான்.

If one gives water to a Gho Matha, who is equivalent to one’s own mother, it will help seven generations of his ancestors (pithrus) attain good fortunes.

Protection of Mother-Cow is a very benevolent act which results in great Punniya (meritorious benefits).
In the same way, I cannot but say that there are sufficient evidences to say that neglecting the Cow is a heinous act which will result in great sin. – Pujyasri Kanchi Maha Periyava

  1. Viswanathan ji. please welcome to our goushla with your family members and support.

  2. Sai – you should also post the video clipping on Chennai pijranpole (sp?) and the rescues made so far and some in the pipeline….

  3. Great work !! Keep it up !!

  4. I have been helping this goshala by promoting their products abroad like their cow dung cakes, dhoop sticks. they also make tooth powder, floor cleaner (which I am promoting in some chennai school chains) , hair oil etc. all with cow urine or cowdung as base. They also make vibhuti in vedic way. They have a weekly stall in Sankara matam, Mambalam. I have also arranged for godhanams (not fresh cows) but adopted from their goshala and given back to them through proper mantras. Quite a few from abroad have approached me and I arranged the godhanam during their visit to Chennai in memory of their departed dear ones. You may also decide to adopt a cow and pay Rs.1500 per month which takes care of the feed expenses of one cow. Natarajan is a hard working guy and as mentioned, takes very good care of the cows. Children love to play with the calves there and go around in their vast land

  5. Excellent sir and I wish that I should also help in this Gosalas. I sincerely hope and when I visit the Kanchi Matam I shall find out the details at T Nagar , Tambaram and help whatever possible by me. Jai Hind , Jai Bharat.

  6. Very well done. Will they need funds?

  7. Excellent
