நேரு “Kitchen religion” — “அடுப்பங்கரை மதம்”- என்று ஹிந்து மதத்தைப் பற்றி அடிக்கடி சொல்கிறார். அப்படிச் சொல்கிறபோது தாம் ஹிந்து மதத்தை ரொம்ப நன்றாகப் பரிஹாஸம் செய்கிறோம் என்று நினைக்கிறார். வாஸ்தவத்தில் அவர்தான் ஹிந்து மதத்தின் ஸாரத்தைப் புரிந்து கொண்டு அதற்கு ஸர்ட்டிஃபிகேட் தருகிறார்! நம் மதம் Kitchen religion – தான்; அடுப்பங்கரை மதம்தான்!
வேதம்தான் நம் மதத்துக்கு ப்ரமாண நூல். வேதத்துக்கும் சிரஸில் இருப்பது உபநிஷத். அதிலே ஒரு உபநிஷத்திலே, ஆத்மா, பிரம்மம் என்று நமக்குப் புரியாத தத்வங்களைச் சொல்கின்றனவே, அந்த உபநிஷத்துக்களில் ஒன்றிலேயே நம் மதத்தை அடுப்பங்கரையாகத்தான் ஆக்கி வைத்திருக்கிறது.
நாரதர் ஸநத்குமாரரிடம் போய் ஆத்ம வித்தையை உபதேசிக்கச் சொல்கிறார். அப்போது ஸநத் குமாரர், “ஆஹார சுத்தௌ ஸத்வ சுத்தி சுத்தி:” என்றுதான் முடிக்கிறார். உபநிஷத்திலேயே இந்த விஷயம் இருக்கிறது. “தூய உணவில் ஆரம்பி; அதுதான் குணம் தூய்மையாவதற்கு வழி. இப்படி சித்த சுத்தி ஏற்பட்ட பின்தான் படிப்படியாக ஈஸ்வர ஸ்மரணம், கட்டுக்கள் விடுபட்ட மோக்ஷம் எல்லாம் ஸித்திக்கும்” என்று ஸநத் குமாரரே Kitchen religion-ல்தான் உபதேசத்தைக் கொண்டுபோய் முடிக்கிறார். அந்த முடிவுதான் — ஆஹார சுத்திதான் — ஸாதனைக்கு ஆரம்பம் அடிப்படை. – ஜகத்குரு ஸ்ரீ சந்திரசேகரேந்திர சரஸ்வதி ஸ்வாமிகள்
Nehru often refers to Hindu religion as ‘Kitchen Religion’. He thinks he is ridiculing the Hindu religion by saying so. Actually he is giving a certificate to Hindu religion by understanding its essence! Yes! Our religion is indeed a Kitchen religion.
The Vedas are fundamental to our religion. The Upanishads are considered the ‘Head’ of the Vedas. The Upanishads normally talk about things like philosophy of Atman, Brahmam, etc., which are beyond our understanding. In one of the Upanishads our religion has been depicted as a kitchen.
Narada goes to Sanathkumara and requests him to impart the knowledge of Atma Vidya (Knowledge of self). Sanatkumara concludes his message with the words ‘aahaara shuddhou sathva shuddhih’ (आहार शुद्धौ सत्व शुद्धिः) (Chandokya Upanishad 7.2.6.2). This is mentioned in the Upanishad itself. ‘Start with pure food; that is the way to pure character. Once the mind gets purified, then relief from worldly bonds and attainment of Moksha occur step by step’ says Sanathkumara in his teachings and concludes his message with ‘kitchen religion’.
