ஒரு மாறுபட்ட தீர்ப்பு!

இந்த நடராஜ மூர்த்தியான ஸ்ரீஸ்ரீஸ்ரீ மஹாபெரியவா தன் இந்த திருஅரிய தவமுனிவரின் திருக்கோலத்தில் சுகப்பிரம்மரிஷி அவர்களின் புனிதத்தோடு அருள்பாலித்தருளுகின்றார்.

பெரியவாளின் பக்தரான திரு. எஸ்.கல்யாணராமன் அவர்களின் அனுபவம். அவர் ஒரு நரம்பு சிகிச்சை நிபுணர். பெரிய மருத்துவக் கல்லூரியின் பேராசிரியராய் இருந்தவர்.

மருத்துவத் தொழில் சம்பந்தமாக அயல்நாடு செல்ல ஸ்ரீ மஹாபெரியவாளிடம் அனுமதி கேட்ட சம்பவத்தைக் கூறுகிறார். 1960 ஆம் ஆண்டு மே மாதம் காமன்வெல்த் ஸ்காலர்ஷிப்பிற்காக மருத்துவக் கல்லூரி மாணவர்களைத் தேர்வு செய்த சமயம் அது. மிகவும் தேர்ந்த மாணவர்களுக்கு மட்டுமே ஒதுக்கப்பட்ட இந்த ஸ்காலர்ஷிப்பைப் பெறுவது மிகவும் மதிக்கத்தக்க ஒன்றாக கருதப்பட்டது.

கொலம்புவில் காமன்வெல்த் பிரதம மந்திரிகளின் கூட்டத்தில்தான் இந்த தனித்துவமான தேர்வு நடைபெற்று மாணவர்களைத் தேர்வு செய்வார்கள்.

இப்படிப்பட்ட விசேஷமான தேர்விற்கான நேர்காணலை திரு.கல்யாணராமன் டெல்லியில் முடித்து வந்த சில நாட்களில் தேர்வு செய்யப்பட்டுவிட்டதாகத் தகவல் கிடைத்தது. நரம்பியல் சம்பந்தமான இரண்டு வருட படிப்பிற்கான ஸ்காலர்ஷிப் கிடைத்திருந்தது.

மிக்க மகிழ்ச்சியோடு இந்தத் தகவலை திருச்சியிலிருந்த அவருடைய தந்தையாரிடம் கூறினார். ஆனால் அவருடைய தந்தையோ கொஞ்சம் தயங்கினார். மிகவும் ஆசாரமான பிராமண குடும்பங்களிலிருந்து வெளிநாடு போய் வருவது அப்போதெல்லாம் அத்தனை சுலபமல்ல. ஒரு பிராமணன் கடல் கடந்து செல்வது ஆசாரமானதல்ல என்பதைத் தீவிரமாகக் கடைப்பிடிக்கும் குடும்பம் அது.

இப்படி ஒரு தர்மசங்கடமான நிலையில் இவருடைய தந்தையாருக்கு ஒரு உபாயம் தான் தோன்றியது.

“பெரியவா கிட்டே போய் உத்தரவு கேட்போம். அவா சரின்னு சொன்னா போ” என்று இவருடைய தந்தை சொல்ல இருவரும் பெரியவாளை தரிசிக்கப் போனார்கள்.

ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா முன் நின்று இவருடைய தகப்பனார் “கல்யாணராமனுக்கு மூளை ஆபரேஷன் சம்பந்தமான படிப்புக்கு ட்ரெய்னிங் ஸ்காலர்ஷிப் கிடைச்சிருக்கு, போகணும்னு ஆசைப்படறான். பெரியவா உத்தரவாகணும்” என்றார்.

“அப்படிப் போயிட்டு வந்தா என்ன பிரயோஜனம்?” என்று ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா கேட்டார்.

“அவன் M.S. டிகிரிதான் படிச்சிருக்கான். இப்போ இந்த அயல்நாட்டு படிப்பை முடிச்சான்னா மூளை சம்பந்தமான படிப்பை முடிச்சுட்டு இங்கிலாந்து போய் FRCS  டிகிரி வாங்கி ரிசர்ச் பண்ணி Phd  வாங்கலாம்” என்றார் அப்பா.

“அதை நான் கேக்கலே…..இதனாலே பொதுஜனங்களுக்கு என்ன பிரயோஜனம்?” என்றார் ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா.

உடனே இவருடைய தந்தை ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா எந்தவிதமான பதிலை எதிர்பார்க்கிறார் என்று புரிந்துக் கொண்டார்.

“இப்போ டாக்டர் ராமமூர்த்தி மட்டும்தான் மூளை சம்பந்தமான ஆபரேஷன் செய்யறார். நிறைய பேர் ட்ரீட்மென்ட் பண்ணிக்க முடியாம தவிக்கறா. ஒரே ஒரு டாக்டர் மட்டும் மூளை சம்பந்தமான சிகிச்சை செய்ய இருக்கறதாலே எல்லோரையும் அவரே பார்க்க முடியாத நிலை. எல்லோரும் இதுக்குன்னு வெளிநாடு போய் சிகிச்சை செஞ்சிக்கவும் முடியாது. இவன்போய் படிப்பை முடிச்சிட்டு வந்தா இன்னும் சிலபேரை இவனும் கவனிச்சு சிகிச்சை பண்ணலாம். அதுக்கு மேலேயும் இவன் இங்கே பல டாக்டர்களுக்கு ட்ரெயினிங்கும் கொடுத்து அவா மூலமாகவும் பலபேருக்கு மருத்துவம் பார்க்கும்படி விருத்தி செய்யலாம்”.

ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா, தான் எதிர்ப்பார்த்த பதிலை தகப்பனாரிடமிருந்து வந்ததில் திருப்தி ஏற்பட்டதுபோல

“அப்படின்னா சரி! போய்ட்டு வரட்டும்” என்றார்.

ஸ்ரீஸ்ரீஸ்ரீ மஹா பெரியவா எப்படி எந்த ஒரு காரியத்தின் நியாயத்தை அலசி அதற்கேற்ப தன் தீர்ப்பை அருள்கிறார் என்பதற்கான உதாரணம் இது என்று டாக்டர் கல்யாணராமன் கூறுகிறார்.

ஒரு பிராமண குலத்தில் பிறந்தவன் தன் நித்ய அனுஷ்டானங்களை விட்டுவிட்டு அயல்நாட்டிற்கு போவதென்பதோ, அல்லது ஒரு பக்தர் அயல்நாட்டுக்கு நிறைய சம்பாதிக்கும் நோக்கமாக செல்வதென்பதோ ஸ்ரீ பெரியவாளுக்கு ஒப்புடையாதாக இல்லாததிருந்தும், இந்த அயல்நாட்டுப் பயணம் என்பது பொதுமக்களின் சேவைக்காக என்று அமைவதாலேயே ஸ்ரீ பெரியவாளின் ஒப்புதலைப் பெற்றதாக அமைந்ததாக கல்யாணராமன் உணர்ந்ததாக சிலாகித்துக் கூறுகிறார்.

இப்படி ஸ்ரீ பெரியவாளின் பிரத்யேக அனுக்ரஹம் பெற்று மூளை ஆபரேஷன் சம்பந்தமாக பயிற்சி பெற்றதால் 1964 முதல் 1992  வரை நிறைய பேருக்கு சிகிச்சையளித்து பயனுறச் செய்ததாகவும், ஓய்வு பெற்ற  பின்பும் பல டாக்டர்களுக்குத் தொடர்ந்து பயிற்சி அளித்து பல ஆண்டுகளாக அப்பல்லோ ஆஸ்பத்திரியில் சேவை செய்யும் வாய்ப்பும் அமைந்ததாகவும் கூறுகிறார்.

ஸ்ரீஸ்ரீஸ்ரீ மஹாபெரியவாளின் பிரத்யேகமான மற்றொரு அனுக்ரஹத்தையும் தான் பெற்றதாக இவர் கூறுகிறார்.

ஒரு ஆசார பிராமண குடும்பத்தை சேர்ந்தவரானதால், வெளிநாடு சென்று வந்ததற்காக பிராயச்சித்தமாக ராமேஸ்வரம் சென்று சேது சமுத்திரத்தில் குளித்து பரிகாரம் செய்து கொள்ள வேண்டுமென்று திரு. கல்யாணராமனுக்குத் தோன்றியது. ஆனலும் இவர் வெளிநாடு சென்று திரும்பியவுடன் ஒரு சிறிய ஆபரேஷன் செய்து கொண்டதால் உடனே பரிகாரம் செய்ய முடியாமல் போனது. பின் இவருடைய திருமணம் நடந்ததாலும் மருத்துவப் பணியில் மும்மரமாக ஈடுபட்டதாலும் தள்ளிப் போய்க் கொண்டே இருந்தது. ராமேஸ்வரம் செல்ல நேரமே கிடைக்கவில்லை. இடையே பலமுறை வெளிநாடுகளுக்குச் சென்று வந்து கொண்டும் இருந்தார்.

1975 இவர் தன் தங்கையுடன் ஸ்ரீ மஹாபெரியவாளைத் தரிசனம் செய்ய காஞ்சி சென்ற போது ஸ்ரீ பெரியவாளிடமிருந்து ஒரு ஆபூர்வமான உத்தரவு இவருக்குக் கிட்டியது.

இவர்கள் தரிசனத்திற்கு நின்றபோது, இவர்களுடன் ஒரு வயதான பிராமண பக்தரும் நின்று கொண்டிருந்தார். அவர் அப்போதுதான் நைஜீரியாவிலிருந்து வந்திருந்தார்.

அறுபது, எழுபது பக்தர்கள் காத்திருக்க ஸ்ரீஸ்ரீஸ்ரீ மஹாபெரியவாளோ, ராமேஸ்வரம் போவது பற்றின கல்யாணராமனின் பிரச்சனைக்காக ஒரு மணி நேரம் உரையாடினாராம். மிகவும் நுட்பமான கருத்தைக் கொண்டே ஸ்ரீ பெரியவாளின் உரையாடலை அவர் அப்படியே எழுதுகிறார்.

ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா (பக்தர்களைப் பார்த்து) : நைஜீரியா போயிட்டு வந்தவர் பிராயசித்தம் பண்ணிக்கணுமான்னு கேட்டுண்டு வந்து நிக்கறார்……ஒரு வேளை கல்யாணராமனும் தனக்கும் இதுலே உத்தரவு ஆகணும்னு வந்திருக்கறார் போலிருக்கு. ராமாயணத்திலே எத்தனை வகையிருக்குன்னு தெரியமோ?

கல்யாணராமன்: நூறு இருக்கலாம்!

ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா : நம்ம நாட்டிலே 300 மொழியும், வர்க்கங்களும் இருக்கு. ராமாயணம் அதுபோல 300 இருக்கு. ராமனும், சீதாவும் எப்படி லங்கையிலிருந்து திரும்பினா தெரியுமோ?

கல்யாணராமன்: புஷ்பகவிமானம் மூலமா திரும்பியதா சொல்லுவா.

ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா : சரி! ஆனா இதுலே என்ன விசேஷம்னா…..எந்த ஒரு ராமாயணத்திலேயும் ராமனோ, மத்தவாளோ லங்கைக்கு கடல்கடந்து போயிட்டு வந்ததுக்காக பிராயசித்தம் செஞ்சிண்டான்னு இல்லே…… உனக்கு ஃப்ரெஞ்ச்காரரை தெரியுமோ…….அவர் ஒரு சரித்திர ஆராய்ச்சி பண்றவர்…..சோழர் காலத்திலே அவர் இந்தியாவிலே வாழ்ந்திருக்கார். அப்போ இருந்த சோழ ராஜா தன் பெண்ணுக்கு இங்கே வரன் கிடைக்காமே வெளிநாட்டிலே தேடியிருக்கார். அப்போ இந்து ராஜாக்கள் கொலம்பியா, தாய்லாந்து, இந்தோனேஷியான்னு வெளிநாடுகள்ளே ஆட்சி புரிஞ்சுண்டு வந்தா. நீ பேங்காக் போயிருக்கயா?

கல்யாணராமன் : போயிருக்கேன்.

ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா : அங்க ஒரு புத்தர் கோயில்லே நம்ப ராமாயண கதையெல்லாம் எழுதி வைச்சிருக்கா பாத்திருக்கயா?

கல்யாணராமன்: பாத்திருக்கேன்.

ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா : சோழ ராஜா கொலம்பியாவிலே தனக்கொரு மாப்பிள்ளையைப் பார்த்தார். அவர் இந்தியாவிற்கு வந்து கல்யாணம் பண்ணிண்டு போன போது அவளோடு இங்கேர்ந்து பல பண்டிதாள்ளாம் போயிருக்கா. அங்கே போய் சில நாள் தங்கிட்டு பண்டிதாள் வந்திருக்கா. ஆனா அந்த சரித்திர ஆசிரியர் இந்த பண்டிதாள் யாரும் பிராயசித்தம் செஞ்சுண்டதா எழுதலே.

(பின் கல்யாணராமைப் பார்த்து) இங்கேர்ந்து அமெரிக்கா போக எத்தனை நாள் ஆகும்?.

கல்யாண ராமன்: 18 மணி நேரமாகும். லண்டன்லே இறங்கி போகணும்னா 24 மணி நேரமாகும்.

ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா : இதுதான் இங்கே முக்கியமா கவனிக்கணும், சாஸ்திரத்திலே என்ன சொல்லியிருக்குன்னா யார் தன்னோட நித்ய கர்மானுஷ்டானங்களை மூணு நாளு தொடர்ந்து செய்யமா விடராளோ, அவா பிராயசித்தம் பண்ணிண்டே ஆகணும், அப்பொல்லாம் தினமும் அனுஷ்டானத்தை விடாம பண்ணுவா……… கடல்லே பிரயாணம் பண்ற சமயத்துலே முடியாது. மூணு நாள் தொடர்ந்து கடல்லே பிரயாணம் செஞ்சா குளிக்க முடியாது. அதனால அனுஷ்டானம் செய்ய முடியாது. அப்போ பிராயசித்தம் பண்ணிண்டே ஆகணும்.

ஆனா சோழ ராஜா காலத்து பண்டிதாள்லாம் ஒருவேளை கொலம்புலேர்ந்து இரண்டு நாளுக்குள்ளே இங்கே வந்திருக்கலாம்.

ராமனுக்கு ஆகாயமார்க்கமா வர சில மணி நேரம்தான் ஆயிருக்கும். அதனாலே இவா ரெண்டுபேருக்கும் பிராயசித்தம் பண்ணவேண்டிய அவசியமிருக்காது.

சாஸ்திரம் சொல்ற இந்த விதியைப் பார்த்தா இங்கே தரிசனத்துக்கு வந்திருக்கிற பல பேர் பிராயசித்தம் பண்ணிண்டேயாகனும்னு சொல்ல வேண்டியிருக்கும். வெளிநாட்டுக்குப் போகமலேயே நித்யகர்மாவை மூணுநாள் தொடர்ந்து செய்யாம விட்டுட்டா பிராயசித்தம் செஞ்சுண்டே ஆகணுமோல்யோ.

ஸ்ரீஸ்ரீஸ்ரீ மஹாபெரியவா இப்படி ஒரு பெரிய சம்பாஷணையின் மூலம் எதிரே நின்ற கல்யாணராமனின் உறுத்தலைப் போக்கி, இவரோ நைஜீரியா அன்பரோ பிராயசித்தம் செய்து கொள்ளத்  தேவையில்லை என்பதையும், ஆனால் அதே சமயம் இங்கேயே இருந்து கொண்டு தொடர்ந்து மூன்று நாட்கள் அனுஷ்டானங்களை விடுபவர்கள் பிராயசித்தம் செய்து கொண்டே ஆகவேண்டுமென்பதையும் மிக நுட்பமாக விளக்கியருளியுள்ளார்.

ஸ்ரீ பெரியவாளுடைய சரித்திர, பூகோள, சாஸ்திரங்களின் விரிந்த அறிவை இந்த உரையாடலின்போது கல்யாணராமன் வியந்து உணர்ந்ததாக எழுதுகிறார்.

இப்பேற்பட்ட பெருந்தெய்வம் நம்மை என்றும் காப்பாற்றும் கருணாகடாக்ஷத்துடன் காத்திருக்க அத்தெய்வத்திடம் நாம் கொள்ளும் சரணாகதம் நம்மை உய்வித்து சகல ஐஸ்வர்யங்களையும், சர்வ மங்களங்களோடு ஆனந்த வாழ்வினையும் அளிக்கும் என்பது சத்தியம்!

A different judgement

Shri Mahaperiyava, due to His kindness, to bless all the people, like a Sugabrahma Rishi Saint, took avatar as Shri Shri Shri Mahaperiyava, walked this earth and blessed us.

This incident is narrated by an eminent neurologist Shri S. Kalyanaraman, who was also a professor at a major medical college.

He narrates an incident, where he went for Periyava’s darshan to request His permission to travel to a foreign country related to his work. It was May 1960 and he had been selected for the common wealth scholarship for medical studies. It was a prestigious scholarship and only few were selected for that scholarship. The students were selected at Colombo’s common wealth countries’ Prime Minister’s meet. Shri Kalyanaraman had attended the scholarship interview at Delhi few days back and had been selected. This scholarship was to study neurology major for two years.

He went to Trichy happily to inform this news to his father. His father hesitated on hearing this news. During those days, it was not easy for anyone born in an orthodox Brahmin family to travel abroad. He was born in a family which did not encourage their family members travelling abroad.

His father was struck in a dilemma. He could think of only one option. He told his son that they will go seek the opinion of Periyava and will follow whatever He advices.

Kalyanaraman’s father stood before Periyava and said, “Kalyanaraman has been selected to study about brain surgery abroad with scholarship and wants to go. We need Periyava’s blessings.”

Sri Periyava asked, “What is the use if he travels?”

Kalyanaraman’s father replied, “Now, he only has MS degree, if he completed this course, he can get FRCH degree and then pursue PhD in England.”

Sri Periyava asked, “I didn’t ask that, Can you tell me the use to common people because of this is?”

Now his father understood Periyava’s question and replied, “Now only Dr. Ramamurthy performs brain surgery. Not everyone can get appointment for their treatment. Also they cannot travel to foreign countries for their treatment. If Kalyanaraman completes his studies, he will also be able to perform those surgeries. He can also train other doctors, so they could also treat other patients.”

Periyava was satisfied with his response and said, “Then let him go.”

Kalyanaraman feels that Periyava analyses each and every situation before He decides on what needs to be done. This incident was a perfect example for that.

Kalyanaraman mentions that Periyava will not approve any devotee forsaking the nithya karmas and traveling to foreign countries or for the sake of earning money. He allowed Kalyanaraman to travel only because he will come back and help lots of people who need brain surgeries.

Due to Periyava’s blessings, he was successfully able to complete multiple surgeries between 1964 and 1992. After his retirement, he continued to train other doctors and successfully completed his work as a doctor in Apollo hospital. He also mentions about a special blessings he had received from Periyava.

Since he was born in an orthodox Brahmin family, Kalyanaraman felt that he must visit the temple at Rameswaram and take bath in the holy waters of Sethu Samudram to purify himself. But due to a surgery he underwent after he came back to India, he was unable to fulfill his wish. Soon after his marriage followed and he got busy with his work and the trip to Rameswaram did not happen. He also travelled multiple times to foreign countries in the meantime.

During 1975, when he went along with his sister to Kanchipuram for Periyava’s darshan, he was blessed with a rare experience. When they were standing in the line, there was one more devotee before them, who was back from Nigeria recently.

Even though there were around 60-70 devotees waiting, Periyava discussed about Kalyanaraman’s wish to go to Rameswaram for almost an hour. Kalyanaraman has documented the conversation in a very detailed manner.

Sri Periyava (looking at the devotees): The one who has returned from Nigeria is asking if he needs to atone himself for his foreign trip. Maybe Kalyanaraman also has come here for the same purpose. Do you know how many kinds of Ramayana exist?

Kalyanaraman: Maybe around 100.

Sri Periyava: Just like how we have around 300 languages/dialects, we have the same number of Ramayana also. Do you know how Rama and Seetha returned from Lanka?

Kalyanaraman: I have heard that they used Pushpaka Vimanam.

Sri Periyava: Right. But do you know that there is no reference that they performed any atonement after their return. Do you know a French history researcher who stayed in India during the Chola rule? The Chola king, unable to find any groom for his daughter here, started looking for a groom across the sea. Do you know that during those days, Hindu kings ruled places like Colombo, Thailand, Indonesia? Have you ever been to Bangkok?

Kalyanaraman: Yes. I have been there.

Sri Periyava: In a Buddhist temple at Bangkok, they have drawn Ramayana stories. Have you visited that?

Kalyanaraman: Yes. I have seen.

Sri Periyava: The Chola king found a groom for his daughter at Colombo. When the groom went back home from here after the marriage, lot of Pandits accompanied them. They stayed there for some days and then returned. The French historian has not written about any atonement performed by them.

(Then looking at Kalyanaraman) How long does it take to go to America?

Kalyanaraman: Around 18 hours. It will be 24 hours if you stop at London.

Sri Periyava: This is the important thing to be noted here. The Shastras say that, if a person fails to do his “Nithya karma Anushtanams” for three days continuously, then he is supposed to perform atonement. In those days, everyone performed their Anushtanams without fail. Anyone travelling in the sea will not be able to do it. If they travel in the sea for three days, they will not even bathe, so there is no question of performing their anushtanam. Then they need to perform atonement.

But I think the Pandits from Colombo might have reached here within two days. It would have taken only few hours for Lord Rama to come back, since he flew. So they were not required to perform atonement.

Based on this, it looks like lot of people who have come here need to perform atonement, even though they have not travelled outside the country.

With this big speech, Periyava cleared the doubts of Kalyanaraman. Periyava had also indicated that, Kalyanaraman and the devotee who returned from Nigeria need not perform any atonement, but anyone who has not performed their anushtanam for three days need to perform atonement.
