Vedas declare that the habit of drinking should be shunned. The Agama Sastra, while speaking about ‘Deeksha’, declares prohibition of liquor as the ‘first dharma’. Thirumoolar says ‘vedhamodu aagamam meiyaam iraiva nool’. (The Vedas and the Agamas are both true, being the word of God).
