காஞ்சியில் ஆதிசங்கரர் மடம் வைக்கவில்லை என்றால் வேறு இடங்களில் அவர் மடம் வைக்க வேண்டியதே இல்லை

Thanks to Sri Ganapathy for this treasure.

  1. Based on Ra Ganapathy Anna’s article in kamakoti website, it looked like Periyava didn’t think this issue would be resolved during his lifetime (lack of better word)

IMHO we as servants to Guru shouldn’t be concerned about these issues either about Acharyas lineages , as it significantly distracts us from calming the mind which Krishna suggested is pre requisite for Self to shine

Ellam Esan Chitham and move on to the substance of teachings which is our lifeboat to …

  2. Dr V.Raghavan was one of our exceptionally brilliant scholars, soaked in traditional scholarship combined with a modern outlook . His feet planted firmly in tradition, he absorbed modern impulses ; rooted in Hindu and Indian national ethos, his mind was broad enough to embrace the whole universe. Whenever he went abroad, he observed their arts and pointed out their relevance and connection to our own tradition. His scholarship was based on deep study of original Sanskrit sources, ( and not on translations); his writings brim with references to rare sources. His views therefore command great respect.
This preface containing his observations on Kanchi Mutt explains a historical tradition now obscured and forgotten. This preface deserves to be printed and issued separately for wider circulation. Devotees should know how to defend their Mutt!

  3. Though Kanchi Kamakoti website states AdiSankara’s gotram as Atri and a Yajurvedi Nambudiri brahmin, the Viswabrahmana Paraksikai says that Krishna-yajur is totally an excerpt from Viswabrahmam Purana. Is that so?

  4. Sir, if possible please share the PDF of the book. I am for sure this edition will not be available now.

I have also read that Adisankara was a Viswabrahmin and not a Namboodri Brahmin. According to Madhviya Sankara Vijayam, when AdiSankara came to Andhra Pradesh, he introduces as “Acharya Sankaro nama, Dwashta putro nasanyasa, Viprakula gurordiksha, Visvakarmantu Brahmana”.

Any quote mentioned by Mahaperiyava on this? Please enlighten.

    • Sri Mahaperiyava does not mention Viswabrahmin anywhere while talking about Sri Adi Sankara, but Sri Mahaperiyava refers to Namboodiri Brahmins of those days as very learned pundits in Vedas.

  5. One should read the book the ” Age of Sankara” by Thandalam Narayana Sastry. So many stone inscriptions were lost when locals have used them for house construction. Different mutts have become famous and known at a specific time due to the penance and grace of the then acharyas. We are only bothered about the Sankata mutts in South; those in North, if researched well would throw some light.

  6. What a beautiful share this is. Love it.
