மஹாலக்ஷ்மி

“பொருளில்லார்க்கு இவ்வுலகம் இல்லை” என்றார் திருவள்ளுவர். எல்லோரும் வீடு வாசலை விட்டுவிட்டு ஆத்ம விசாரத்தில் ஈடுபட முடியாது. உலக வாழ்க்கையை நடத்துவதானால் பணம் வேண்டித்தான் இருக்கிறது. இப்படிச் சம்பாதித்து குடும்பம் நடத்துபவர்கள் இருப்பதனால்தான் வேறு சிலர் ஆத்ம விசாரம் செய்ய முடிகிறது. பொருள் தேடி வாழ்க்கை நடத்தும் கிருஹஸ்தர்கள்தான் ஆத்ம விசாரத்தில் ஈடுபட்ட சந்நியாசிகளுக்கு பிக்ஷை அளித்து அவர்களை ரக்ஷிக்கிறார்கள். கிருஹஸ்தர்கள் இல்லாவிட்டால், பொருளைப் பற்றி நிர்விசாரமாக சந்நியாசிகள் என்று சிலர் ஞானம், பக்தி இவற்றிலேயே ஈடுபட்டிருக்க முடியாது. “பொருள் (பணம்) என்பது பொருள் இல்லாதது”. ‘அர்த்தம் அனர்த்தம்’ என்று சொன்ன அதே ஆதி சங்கராசாரியாள், அதே ‘பஜகோவிந்த’த்தில் பணப் பேராசை பிடித்து அலையாதே! ஆனால் உனக்கு உரிய கர்மத்தினால் நீ சம்பாதிக்கிற பொருளைக் கொண்டு நியாயமாக வாழ்ந்து உன்னையே உயர்த்துக் கொள் என்றார்.

வித்தம் தேன விநோதய சித்தம்.

செல்வத்துக்கு அதி தேவதையாக இருக்கப்பட்டவள் மஹாலக்ஷ்மி. அவளைப் பிரார்த்தித்தால் நமக்கு தர்ம நியாயமாக வேண்டிய சம்பத்தைத் தந்து அநுக்கிரகம் செய்வாள். ஞான, வைராக்கியக் கிரந்தங்களை நிறையச் செய்த ஸ்ரீ ஆசாரியாள் தம்முடைய பரம காருண்யத்தால் விவகார தசையிலுள்ள லோக ஜனங்களை உத்தேசித்து அவர்கள் மஹாலக்ஷ்மியை எப்படிப் பிரார்த்திக்க வேண்டும் என்று சொல்லிக்கொடுக்கிற மாதிரி, ‘கனகதாரா ஸ்தவம’என்ற லக்ஷ்மீ பரமான ஸ்தோத்திரத்தை, நமக்கு அநுக்கிரகித்திருக்கிறார்.

இந்தக் ‘கனகதாரா ஸ்தவம்’ உண்டானதற்கு ஒரு கதை உண்டு. ஆசாரியார் சன்னியாசம் வாங்கிக் கொள்வதற்கு முற்பட்ட கதை அது. அவர் பால தசையில் காலடியில் பிரம்மச்சாரியாக குருகுலவாசம் செய்து வீடு வீடாகப் போய் பிக்ஷை வாங்கி வந்த சமயம், ஒரு துவாதசியன்று பரம தரித்திரன் ஒருவன் வீட்டுக்கு பிக்ஷைக்காகப் போனார். அவனுக்கு அநுக்கிரகம் பண்ணவே போனார் போலிருக்கிறது! இவர் போன போது உஞ்சவிருத்திப் பிராமணனாகிய வீட்டுக்காரன் வீட்டில் இல்லை. பத்தினி மட்டும் இருந்தாள். இவரைப் பார்த்த மாத்திரத்தில், “அடடா! எப்படிப்பட்ட தேஜஸ்வியான பிரம்மச்சாரி! இவருக்குப் பிக்ஷை போட்டால் சகல புண்ணியமும் உண்டாகும்” என்று நினைத்தாள். ஆனால், பிக்ஷை போடத்தான் வீட்டில் ஒரு மணி அரிசிகூட இல்லை. தேடித்தேடி பார்த்ததில் ஒரு புரையில் அழுகல் நெல்லிக்காய் ஒன்று அகப்பட்டது. துவாதசிப்பாரணைக்காக அவள் புருஷன் ‘சேமித்து’ வைத்திருந்த நெல்லி! ‘போயும் போயும் இதையா அந்தத் தெய்வக் குழந்தைக்குப் போடுவது!’ என்று ரொம்பவும் மனசு குமுறி வேதனைப்பட்டாள். ஆனால் “பவதி பிக்ஷாம் தேஹி” என்று கேட்டுவிட்ட பிரம்மச்சாரியை வெறுமே திருப்பி அனுப்பக்கூடாது என்பதால் வாசலுக்குப் போனாள். அங்கே மகா தேஜஸ்வியாக நிற்கிற பாலசங்கரரைப் பார்த்துச் சொல்லி முடியாத வெட்கத்தோடும், அழுகையோடும் திரும்ப உள்ளே வந்தாள். வந்த பிறகு, ‘ஐயோ இப்படிப்பட்ட தெய்வக் குழந்தைக்கு ஒன்றும் போடாமலிருப்பதா?’ என்று நினைத்து வாசலுக்குப் போனாள். இப்படி வாசலுக்கும் உள்ளுக்குமாகத் தவித்து தவித்து நடமாடிவிட்டு கடைசியில் ‘அழுகலோ மட்டமோ? நம்மிடம் இருப்பதைத்தானே நாம் கொடுக்க முடியும்!’ என்று ஒரு மாதிரி மனஸைத் தேற்றிக்கொண்டு அந்த அழுகல் நெல்லிக்கனியை ஆசாரியாளுக்குப் போட்டாள்.

பொருளில் தரித்திரமாக இருந்தாலும், அவளுடைய மனசு எத்தனை பெரியது என்பதையும், அவளுக்கு தன்னிடம் எத்தனை அன்பு பொங்குகிறது என்பதையும் ஆசாரியாள் கண்டுகொண்டார். அவர் மனசு அவளுக்காக உருகிற்று. உடனேதான் அவளுக்காக மஹாலக்ஷ்மியைப் பிரார்த்தித்து, ‘கனகதாரா ஸ்தவம்’ பாடினார்.

Thiruvalluvar  said  that   there  is  no  life  for  those who   do  not  have  wealth.  Everyone cannot   renounce worldly life   and meditate on self-realization.  Wealth is necessary to run this worldly life. Only  because  of  such  people  who  earn  money  to  run  the  family,  some  others can  undertake  meditation  and  Self—analysis.  The  ‘GruhasthAs’  who     earn  money   and  run  a  family  life  nurture those who  are indulged  in  Self—Analysis  by  feeding  them.    But for the ‘GruhasthAs’ (family men),   SanyAsins  cannot  devote  their time  in  Bhakthi  and  GnAnam,  without  bothering  about money.  Adhi Sankaracharyar who said  ‘அர்த்தம் அனர்த்தம்’ (Wealth is not Wealth)   also said in the same ‘Bhja Govindham’  “Do not be after wealth with greed; but, with whatever wealth you earn with your Karma, live honestly and rise.”

The ultimate DevathA for wealth is MahAlakshmi. If we pray to Her, She will bless us with whatever wealth we want in an honest way. Sri AcharyAl who wrote a lot of books on wisdom and Detachment, also blessed us with ‘KanakaDhArA Sthavam’ keeping in mind the people who are in the midst of the worldly life, showing them a way to worship MahALakshmi.

There is a story behind ‘KankadhArA Sthavam’. It happened before AchAryAr renounced the world and became a SanyAsi. In His childhood days, He went from house to house as a BrahmachAri, begging for alms. On a DwAdhasi dy, He went to the house of a very poor man for alms. It looks that He went there with the sole purpose of showering His blessings! When He went there, the owner, a Brahmin who also used to go for alms, was not in the house. Only his wife was there. When she saw Him, she thought, ‘Oh! What a bright looking BrahmachAri! If I give alms to him, I will get a lot of ‘Punnyam’” But there was not a grain of rice at home. When she searched the whole house, she finally got a rotten amla fruit, from a small shelf in the wall. Her husband had collected and kept it for the DwAdhasi breaking the fast. She was perturbed at the thought of giving this rotten fruit to that BrahmachAri. But she went to the front door, as He, who asked ‘Bhavathi BikshAm DhEhi”, should not be sent back without giving him something. She saw BAla Sankarar, who was standing there, light radiating from all over His body, and returned ashamed of herself and crying. Again she went to the door, unable to send Him back without giving Him (the Divine boy) anything. This went on for some time and finally, she made up her mind thinking, ‘What can I do but give Him whatever I have!” and dropped the Amla fruit into the pot!

AchAryAl realized how big her heart was, though the alms smacked of poverty, and how her love flows towards Him. His heart melted for her sake. Then only, He sang the ‘KanakadhArA Sthavam’, praying MahAlakshmi for her welfare.
