“நல்வாக்கு!”

சாட்சாத் சர்வேஸ்வர்ரே ஸ்ரீஸ்ரீஸ்ரீ மஹா பெரியவாளாய் இவ்வுலகில் அவதரித்து அருளுவதோடு சுகப்பிரம்மரிஷி அவர்களின் தவவலிமையோடு திகழ்ந்து நமெக்கெல்லாம் அனுக்ரஹித்துள்ளார்.

பரீட்சித்து மஹாராஜா தன்னை சர்பம் தீண்டப்போவதை அறிந்து பயங்கொண்டவனாய் சுகப்பிரம்மரிஷியிடம் இந்த விதியை வெல்ல மார்க்கம் கிடைக்குமா என சென்றாராம். எப்போதும் மௌனியாகவே காணப்பட்ட மகான் தன் திருவாய் மலர்ந்தவராய் அங்கு சபையில் கூடியிருந்தவர்களைப் பார்த்து “உங்களுக்கெல்லாம் முடிவு காலம் எப்பொதென்று தெரியுமா?” என்றாராம். அங்கிருந்த சான்றோர் யாருக்கும் அது தெரியாதிருந்த நிலையில் “உனக்காவது ஏழுநாட்கள் உயிரோடுயிருக்கலாமென்ற உத்தரவாதம் உள்ளது. ஆனால் இவர்களுக்கெல்லாம் அந்த உத்தரவாதம் கூட இல்லை”, என்ற மகா தத்துவத்தைக் கூறி ராஜாவை சாந்தப்படுத்தி அனுப்பியதாகக் கூறுவதுண்டு.

அதேபோல் சுகப்பிரம்மரிஷியை ஒத்த ஸ்ரீஸ்ரீஸ்ரீ மஹா பெரியவாளின் மகிமையும் ஒரு சம்பவத்தால் விளங்கும் வகையில் அமைந்துள்ளது. ஆதம்பாக்கம் பஜனை மண்டலியில் உபன்யாச சக்ரவர்த்தி ஸ்ரீ சுந்தரகுமார் அவர்களின் சுந்தரகாண்ட உபன்யாசத்தில் கேட்டதாக ஒரு பெரியவா பக்தர் எடுத்துரைத்த சம்பவம் இது.

ஸ்ரீ சுந்தர்குமாரின் நண்பர் தனக்கு பீமரதசாந்தி ஹோமம் செய்துக்கொள்ள ஏற்பாடுகளில் ஈடுபட்டிருந்தார். அவருக்கு எழுபது வயது பூர்த்தியாகியிருந்ததால் உலக வழக்கின்படி அந்த வயதில் பீமரதசாந்தி செய்துக் கொள்ள அவர் முடிவெடுத்ததில் தவறல்ல என்பது தான் அனேகமானவர்களின் கருத்தாக இருக்கும். இந்த அன்பர் தன் பீமரதசாந்தியுடன் பேரனின் பூணல்கல்யாணத்தையும் சேர்த்து வைத்திருந்ததால் அதற்கான மண்டபங்கள் பார்க்கப்பட்டு சமையல் மற்றும் வைதீக ஏற்பாடுகளெல்லாம் செய்யபட்டுவிட்டது. எல்லோருக்கும் பத்திரிக்கை கொடுத்து அழைத்தும் ஆயிற்று.

இந்நிலையில் இவருக்கு தன் நண்பர் சுந்தரகுமார் அவர்கள் ஸ்ரீ பெரியவாளைத் தரிசிக்க செல்வதை அறிந்து தானும் ஸ்ரீ பெரியவாளிடம் நடக்கப்போகும் விசேஷங்களுக்காக ஆசிர்வாதம் வாங்கி வரலாமென்று தோன்றப் பத்திரிக்கையை எடுத்துக் கொண்டு புறப்பட்டார்.

அடிக்கடி ஸ்ரீ பெரியவாளின் தரிசனத்திற்குப் போகும் சுந்தரகுமாருடன் போவதால் தனக்கு ஒரு அறிமுகம் கிடைக்கும் என்று அவருடைய எண்ணம். ஆனால் ஸ்ரீ பெரியவாளிடம் தரிசனத்திற்கு நின்றபோது, சுந்தரகுமார் அவர்கள் இவருடைய பீமரதசாந்தி பற்றி ஸ்ரீ பெரியவாளிடம் எடுத்துரைத்துப் பத்திரிக்கையை வைத்தபோது ஸ்ரீ மகான் அதன் மேல் அத்தனை அக்கறைக் காட்டாமல் நடந்துக் கொண்டது வியப்பாகவும் ஏமாற்றமாகவும் ஆனது.

ஸ்ரீ சுந்தரகுமாரை விசாரித்து பிரசாதம் கொடுத்தும் ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா அனுப்பினாரேயன்றி இந்த அன்பரின் பத்திரிக்கையை ஆசிர்வதிக்கவில்லை. பெரும் ஆதங்கத்தோடு இந்த அன்பர் நொந்து கொண்டார்.

அவரை சமாதானம் செய்யும் நோக்கமாக ஸ்ரீ சுந்தரகுமார் மறுபடியும் ஸ்ரீ பெரியவாளிடம் போய் நின்றார்.

“நான்தான் உனக்கு பிரசாதம் கொடுத்துட்டேனே” என்று ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா இவர் மறுமுறை வந்ததற்கான காரணம் தெரியாதவர் போல் கேட்டார்.

“இல்லே..…..என் நண்பருக்கு பீமரதசாந்தின்னு ஆசிர்வாதம் வாங்க கூட்டுண்டு வந்தேன்…….ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா ஓண்ணுமே சொல்லாததினாலே அவர் ரொம்ப ஆதங்கப்படறார்…….பெரியவா ஆசிர்வதிக்கணும்” என்று விண்ணப்பித்தார்.

“ஓகோ பீமரதசாந்தி பண்ணிக்கிறாரா? அவருக்கு வயசு என்ன?” என்று ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா வினவ, அன்பர் உடனே உற்சாகமாகி “எழுபது முடிஞ்சாச்சு” என்றார்.

“உனக்கு சாஸ்திரம் என்னென்னு தெரியுமோல்யோ?” என்று ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா சுந்தரகுமாரிடம் கேட்டார்.

சுந்தரகுமார் ஒன்றும் பதில் சொல்லாமல் நிற்க, அங்கிருந்த சில பண்டிதர்களையும் கேட்டுவிட்டு ஒரு சாஸ்திரப் புத்தகத்தை உள்ளே தேடி எடுத்துவரும்படி ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா கூறினார். அதில் குறிப்பிட்ட ஒரு புத்தகத்தில் பீமரதசாந்தி செய்துக்கொள்வது பற்றிய தகவலை ஸ்ரீ பெரியவாளே தேடி அந்த சங்கதியை எடுத்துரைத்தார்.

“பீமரதசாந்திங்கறது 77 வயது, 7 மாசம் 7 நாள் கழிஞ்சப்புறம் தான் பண்ணிகணும்னு இருக்கே, என்று ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா ஒரு சங்கடமான குறிப்பைக் கூறி நிறுத்திவிட்டார். ஆசி வாங்க வந்த அன்பருக்கு ஏதடா இது புதுகுழப்பம் என்றாகிவிட்டது.

ஆக, வயது 77 ஆனபின்தான் பீமரதசாந்தி செய்துக்கொள்ள வேண்டும் என்பது தான் ஸ்ரீ பெரியவாளுடைய ஆக்ஞை என்றால் இத்தனை ஏற்பாடுகளை செய்தபின் இத்தனைப் பேரை அழைத்தபின் வைபவங்களை நிறுத்துவதென்றால் அது முடியுமா? சரி நிச்சயிக்கப்பட்டதுபோலவே பீமரதசாந்தியைச் செய்துக் கொள்வதென்று முடிவெடுத்தாலும் அதற்கு ஸ்ரீ பெரியவாளின் அருளாசி கிட்டாமல் பூர்ணமாக செய்துக் கொண்டாட மனம் ஒப்புமா என செய்வதறியாத நிலையில் புலம்பத் தொடங்கினார்.

தயங்கி எதிரே நின்றவர்களை காருண்யத் தெய்வமான ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா கருணையோடு நோக்கினார்.

“அப்போ ஒண்ணு பண்ணுங்கோ” என்று அரவணைக்கும் ஆறுதலான வாக்கினைப் பொழிந்த மகான் “இப்போ ஏற்பாடு செஞ்சதுபோலவே பீமரதசாந்தி ஹோமத்தை இவர் பண்ணிக்கட்டும். ஆனா சாஸ்திரப் பிரகாரமும் அவரோட 77 வயசு, 7 மாசம், 7 நாள் கழிஞ்சப்புறமும் இன்னோரு சாந்தி பண்ணிப்பாரா கேளு” என்றார்.

அன்பருக்கு உயிர்வந்தது போலாகியது.

“அப்பவும் பண்ணிக்கறேன் பெரியவா” என்று இப்போது ஏற்பாடு செய்யப்பட்ட  விசேஷத்திற்கு அனுக்ரஹம் கிடைத்துவிட்ட ஆனந்தத்தில் அன்பர் ஸ்ரீபெரியவாளை நமஸ்கரித்துவிட்டு விடைப்பெற்றார்.

ஸ்ரீ பெரியவாளிடமிருந்து அகன்றுச் சென்ற போது சுந்தர்குமாரிடம் அன்பர் நன்றி கூறும் விதத்தில் “நல்லவேளை பெரியவா இதுக்கு ஆசிர்வதித்து விட்டார்” என்று இன்னும் ஒரு பெரிய அனுக்ரஹம் பெற்றுவிட்டதை அறியாதவராய் அகமகிழ்ந்தார்.

ஆனால் சுந்தர்குமாருக்கு மகானின் வாக்கு பலிதம் பற்றின நம்பிக்கை இருந்ததால் “நீங்க இதுக்கு சந்தோஷப்படறீங்க, ஆனா இதைவிட பெரிய அனுக்ரஹத்தை ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா வலியவே உங்களுக்கு பொழிஞ்சிருக்காளே இது உங்களுக்குத் தெரியலையா?” என்றார்.

அன்பருக்குப் புரியவில்லை.

“77 வயசானப்புறமும் செஞ்சுக்கணும்னு ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா வாக்கினாலே வந்திருக்கே அதுக்க என்ன அர்த்தம்? உங்களுக்கு 77 வயசு கேரண்டின்னுதானே அனுக்ரஹம் வந்திருக்கு யாருக்குக் கிடைக்கும் இப்படி ஒரு வாக்கு” என்றார் சுந்தரகுமார்.

மகானின் வாக்கு பலிக்காமல் போகுமா? அந்த அன்பர் தம்பதி சமேதராய் சதாபிஷேகமும் செய்துக் கொண்டார் என்பதை சொல்லவும் வேண்டுமோ?

‘சாட்சாத் சர்வேஸ்வரரான ஸ்ரீஸ்ரீஸ்ரீ மஹாபெரியவாளின் வாக்கின் வலிமையல்லவா’ என்று ஸ்ரீ சுந்தர்குமார் அனுபவித்து முடிக்கிறார்.

வேதநாயகரின் வேடிக்கை

தஞ்சாவூர் சந்தானராமன் தமக்கு ஏற்பட்ட ஒரு வேடிக்கையான ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா அனுபவத்தைக் கூறுகின்றார்.

ஒரு முறை சந்தானராமன் ஸ்ரீ பெரியவாளைத் தரிசிக்க காஞ்சிபுரம் சென்றார். அவருடன் தஞ்சாவூர் சரவணபவன் ஹோட்டல் அதிபர் வெங்கடாசலமய்யரும் வந்திருந்தார். ஸ்ரீ பெரியவாளை சிவாஸ்தானத்தில் தரிசித்தபோது,

“வடக்கு வீதி சங்கர மடத்தில் இப்போ வேதாந்த பாடம், சாஸ்திரம் இதெல்லாம் யாரவது சொல்லிக் கொடுக்கிறாளா? மெலட்டூர் சாஸ்திரிகள்தான் இப்போ இல்லே போலிருக்கே” என்று கேட்டார் ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா.

மெலட்டூர் சாஸ்திரிகள் காலமானபின்னர் வேறு யாரும் அங்கில்லை” என்றார் சந்தானராமன்,.

“யாராவது சாஸ்திரம் படிச்சவாளா அங்கே போட்டா தேவலை. ஒருத்தர் தவே யோ என்னவோ இருந்தாரே…. அவர் என்ன பண்றார்” என்றார் ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா.

“அவர் திருக்கோயிலூர் போய்விட்டார். சந்யாச ஆஸ்ரமம் வாங்கிக் கொண்டதாகக் கேள்விப்பட்டேன்” என்றார் சந்தானராமன்.

உடனே சட்டென்று ஸ்ரீ பெரியவாளெனும் அனைத்தையும் அறிந்திட்ட ஞானி “ஆசிரமும் இல்லே. ஒண்ணும் இல்லை. அவரைக் கூட்டிண்டு வந்து நான் சொன்னேன்னு சொல்லி நம்ம மடத்தில் தங்கச் சொல்லிப் பாடம் சொல்லிக் கொடுக்கச் சொல்லு” என்று ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா கூற, இவருக்கு பெரிய சந்தேகம். தாம் தவே என்பவரைப் பற்றி சந்யாசம் வாங்கிக் கொண்டதாகக் கேள்விப்பட்டதை ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா எப்படி இல்லை என்கிறார் என்பதே இவர் சந்தேகத்தின் காரணம். அதை ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா சட்டென மறுத்ததில் அது உண்மையல்ல என்பதும் புரிந்தது.

ஆனால் அதற்கான சாட்சி வேண்டுமல்லவா?

சந்தானராமனே சாட்சியோடு வந்திருப்பது அவருக்கே தெரியவில்லை. இவர் கூட வந்திருந்த சரவணபவன் அதிபர் வெங்கடாசலமய்யர்தான் அந்த சாட்சி!

“பெரியவா யாரை சொல்றா?” என்றார் வெங்கடாசலமய்யர் குறுக்கிட்டு கேட்டுவிட்டு “ஓகோ அவரா? எனக்கு நன்னாத் தெரியும். எங்க கடை காபின்னா அவருக்கு உசுரு. கார்த்தாலே கடையைத் திறக்கறத்துக்கு முன்னாடியே காத்திருந்து, ஐந்து மணிக்கு காபி சாப்பிட்டுட்டுதான் போவார்” என்றார்.

சந்யாசம் வாங்கிக் கொண்டார் என்று கேள்விபட்டவருக்கு இப்படி ஒரு காபி பைத்தியம் இருப்பதாகத் தெரிய சந்தானராமனுக்கு லேசாக சிரிப்பு வந்தது.

ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா இதைக் கேட்டுவிட்டு “அப்போ இவரை உன்கூட அழைச்சுண்டு போ……. இவரைப் பார்த்தா தவே உன்னோட வந்திடுவார். ரொம்ப சுலபமா போச்சு” என்று ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா வேடிக்கையாகச் சொன்னபோது அங்கே கூடியிருந்த அனைத்து பக்தர்களிடையே சிரிப்பலை எழுந்தது.

இத்தனை எளிமையோடு நம்மிடையே அருள்பாலிக்கும் அந்தக் காருண்யத் தெய்வத்தின் மகிமை எல்லையில்லாதது. அப்பேற்பட்ட தெய்வத்தை நாம் பூர்ணமாக உணர்ந்து கொண்டாடும் பாக்யம் பெற்று விட்டால் வாழ்வில் சகல ஐஸ்வர்யங்களையும் பெற்று சர்வ மங்களங்களுடன் மகிழ்ச்சியும் பொங்கும் என்பது திண்ணம்.

Shri Shri Shri Mahaperiyavaal Mahimai (4-6-2012)

“Good wishes”

Shri Mahaperiyava, who is the avatar of Shri Adi Shankara, due to His kindness, to bless all the people, like a Sugabrahma Rishi Saint, took avatar as Shri Shri Shri Mahaperiyava, walked this earth and blessed us.

King Parikshit came to knew that he will be bit by a snake. He was afraid and reached out to Rishi Sugabrahma and asked if there is a way to escape his fate. The Rishi who usually maintains silence, asked everyone present there, “Do you all know until when you will live?” No one answered the question. The Rishi now looked at the King and said, “At least you know that you will live for 7 days, the other people here do not even until when they will live.” In this way the Rishi calmed the King and sent him back.

In a similar way, we come to know about Periyava, who is like Sugabrahma Rishi, through this one incident. This incident was narrated by a devotee who had heard this at a Sundara Kandam Upanyasam by Upanyasa Chakravarthi Shri Sundar Kumar of the Adambakkam Bhajanai Mandali.

A friend of Shri Sundar Kumar was busy preparing for his Bhimaratha shanthi. Since he had completed 70 years, it was the appropriate time for his Bhimaratha shanthi. Since he had also planned for the Upanayanam of his grandson along with this, he was busy in checking the Mandapam where the event will be hosted, the food and all the Vaideeha activities for the function. The invitations had been printed and all the guests had been already invited.

He came to know that his friend Sundar Kumar is going for Periyava’s darshan. He wished to go along to get the blessings for the events. So he took the invitation and joined Sundar Kumar for Periyava’s darshan.

Since Sundar Kumar goes for Periyava’s darshan, he was hoping that he will be introduced to Periyava. But during the darshan, when Sundar Kumar offered the invitation, and informed Periyava about the Bhimaratha shanthi function of his friend, Periyava did not show any interest. This made him feel sad. Even though Periyava inquired about Sundar Kumar and blessed him, He did not bless the friend or the invitation.

To console his friend, Sundar Kumar went to Periyava again with the invitation. “Did I not already give you the prasadam?” Periyava asked Sundar Kumar as if He did not know anything.

Sundar Kumar said, “This is the invitation of my friend’s Bhimaratha shanthi, who has come with me here. He wanted to get your blessings. So I came again.”

Periyava replied, “Bhimaratha shanthi? What is his age?” Sundar Kumar replied that his friend had completed 70 years.

Periyava asked Sundar Kumar, “Do you know what the Shastra says?”

Sundar Kumar stood there without knowing what to answer. Periyava then called some of the Pundits who were present there and asked them to fetch a particular book. Periyava flipped to a particular page in that book and then started to explain the contents.

“It looks like Bhimaratha shanthi should be performed after a person completes 77 years, 7 months and 7 days.” Periyava read from the book. The friend who had come for blessings felt confused.

So now it was clear that Periyava’s order was to perform Bhimaratha shanthi only after 77 years. But now after all the arrangements, inviting all relatives and friends, how can he stop the event? But he also did not want to perform it without Periyava’s blessings. As he stood there confused, Periyava looked at them with a lot of kindness.

“Then do one thing” Periyava continued, “Let the Bhimaratha shanthi happen now as planned, but ask him if he will do another shanthi as per the shastras once he completed 77 years, 7 months and 7 days.”

The friend felt relieved. He replied, “I will do another one Periyava.” The friend left the place with blessings of Periyava for the function.

As they left the place, the friend told Sundar Kumar that he was happy and relieved to receive the blessings of Periyava. He did not know about another blessings that had also been given to him.

But since Sundar Kumar knew about Periyava’s words and asked, “You are feeling happy for this blessings, but don’t you know you have also been blessed more?”

The friend did not understand Sundar Kumar’s question. Sundar Kumar continued, “When Periyava asked you to perform another shanthi after 77, doesn’t it mean you are going to live until that time? Who else gets a life guarantee like this?”

How can Periyava’s words fail? Is it required to tell that the couple successfully celebrated Sathabhishegam too?

Sundar Kumar concludes by saying, “Is it not the strength of Periyava’s words?”

An amusing incident

Thanjavur Santhanaraman narrates an amusing incident that he had experienced with Periyava.

Once Santhanaraman went to Kanchipuram for Periyava’s darshan. He was accompanied by Thanjavur Saravana Bhavan hotel owner Venkatachala Iyer. They had Periyava’s darshan at Sivasthanam.

Periyava asked, “Is there someone teaching Veda and Shastras at the North Street Shankara Srimatam? I think Melattur Shastrigal attained Siddhi.”

Santhanaraman replied, “There is no one after Melattur Shastrigal.”

Periyava replied, “It is better if someone is appointed there. What is Dhave doing?”

“He went to Thirukovilur. I heard that he took Sanyasa ashramam.” Replied Santhanaraman.

Periyava who knew everything replied, “Nothing like that. Tell him that I told and take him to Srimatam and ask him to teach.” Santhanaraman was confused. He was thinking how Periyava can confidently say that Dhave had NOT become a Saniyasi. He also understood that what Periyava had said was correct, but shouldn’t there be some evidence for that. He didn’t know that Venkatachala Iyer who had accompanied him was that evidence.

“Who is Periyava talking about?” Venkatachala Iyer interrupted and then as he understood who the person was, he informed Periyava that he knew the person. Venkatachala Iyer also said that Dhave used to visit his hotel often and liked coffee very much. Dhave used to come at 5 am in the morning when the hotel opened for a hot cup of coffee.

Santhanaraman smiled when he heard that Dhave was actually a coffee lover and not a Sanyasi.

On hearing Venkatachala Iyer’s account of Dhave, Periyava told Santhanaraman, “Take him along with you. If Dhave sees him, he will come with you.” Periyava told this in an amusing way that all the devotees present there smiled.

The glory of Periyava who led a simple life is boundless. If we realize this truth and surrender at His feet, we will be blessed with all the happiness and peace.

Grace will continues to grow.
