அவருவரும் எத்தனைக்கெத்தனை தீட்டுக் கலக்காமல் personal purity-ஐக் காத்துக்கொண்டு அதனாலேயே ஸொஸைட்டியையும் ‘ப்யூராக’ இருக்கப் பண்ணினார்களோ அத்தனைக்கத்தனை நாம் விழுப்பும் தீட்டுமாயிருந்து கொண்டு, நமக்குத்தான் ஸமூஹ உணர்ச்சியும் ஸஹோதரத்வமும் இருக்கின்றன என்று சொல்லிக் கொண்டே நாளுக்கு நாள் நம்மையும் அசுசியாக்கிக் கொண்டு ஸமூஹத்தையும் கெடுத்துக் கொண்டு வருகிறோம். லான்டரித் துணியை நாள் கணக்கில் தோய்க்காமல் போட்டுக் கொண்டு, ரயில், பஸ் என்று போவதில் ஒருவிதமான தீட்டு பாக்கியில்லாமல் சேர்த்துக் கொண்டு, க்ரமமாய் ஸ்நானம் கிடையாது என்று ஆக்கிக் கொண்டு, நினைத்த ஹோட்டலில் கண்ட ஆஹாரத்தைத் தின்று கொண்டு, தர்ம விருத்தமான ஸினிமாவிலும் நாவலிலும் பொழுதைப் போக்கிக் கொண்டிருக்கிறோம். இப்படியிருப்பதில் நம்மைப் பற்றி நாமே, ‘மாடர்னாக இருக்கிறோம். மூட சாஸ்திரங்களை விட்டுவிட்டு புத்திமான்களாக முன்னேற்றம் கண்டு வருகிறோம்’ என்று பெருமைப்பட்டுக் கொண்டாலும், கொஞ்சம் யோசித்தால் நமக்கு யதார்த்தம் புரியாமல் போகாது. யதார்த்தம் என்ன? தேஹ ஆரோக்யம், திரவிய ஸுபிக்ஷம், திருப்தி, மேதை, காந்தி, கௌரவம், தெய்விகமான அநுபவம் எல்லாவற்றிலுமே நாம் நம் பூர்விகர்களைவிட ரொம்பவும் கீழே போய்க் கொண்டிருக்கிறோமென்பதுதான். பாழுங் கிணற்றில் நன்றாக விழுமுன் இப்போதாவது நாம் கண் விழித்து நம்முடைய சாஸ்திர வழியிலே போக ஆரம்பிக்க வேண்டும். நாம் சிரமப்பட்டு புதுசாகப் பண்ணிக்கணும் என்றில்லாமல் பூர்விர்களே நமக்கு ரெடி-மேடாக, கல்லையும் கான்க்ரீட்டையும் விட உறுதியான, குண்டு குழி விழாத பாதையாகப் போட்டுக் கொடுத்திருக்கிறார்கள். “நாமாகப் புதுசாகப் பண்ணுகிறோம்” என்ற பெருமைக்காக அழிவுப் பாதையில் போகாமல், இந்த ஆசாரப் பாதையில் போய் நம்மை ரக்ஷித்துக் கொள்வோம். நம் ‘கைங்கரியம்’ நம்மோடு நிற்கவில்லை. நாம் கெட்டதோடு வரப்போகிற ஸந்ததிகளையும் கெடுத்து வைத்திருக்கிறோம். நாம் தந்த துணிச்சலில் அவர்கள் நாம் எப்படி பூர்விகர்களை உதாஸீனம் செய்தோமோ அதைவிட உக்ரமாக நம்மையும் தூக்கியெறிந்துவிட்டு, நம்மைவிடவும் ஸ்வயேச்சைப்படி வெறியாட்டம் நடத்த வழிகோலிவிட்டோம். கண் கெட்டபின் ஸூர்ய நமஸ்காரம் என்கிற நிலைக்குக் கிட்டதட்டப் போயாச்சு; இன்னும் போயோயாகிவிடவில்லை என்பதால் – ச்வாஸம் வாங்கும்போதுகூட ‘ஆக்ஸிஜன்’ கொடுத்துப் பிழைத்த கேஸ்கள் இருக்கின்றவே; அப்படி ஆக்ஸிஜன் கொடுத்துப் பார்க்க நாம் ஆரம்பிக்க வேண்டும். இத்தனை கேவல ஸ்திதியை, கஷ்ட தசையை அடைந்ததிலிருந்தே, விடுபட்டாக வேண்டுமென்ற நல்லறிவு பெற்று, அதற்காக ஊக்கமாக முயற்சி தொடங்க வேண்டும். மற்ற தேசங்கள் திண்டாடுவதைவிட, அவர்களைப் பார்த்து அவர்களைப் போலவே பண்ணி நாமும் திண்டாடுவது அவர்களைவிட நமக்குத்தான் பெரிய அவமானம். ஏனென்றால் அவர்களுடைய முன்னோர்கள் நம்முடைய பூர்விகர்கள் நமக்குக் கொடுத்திருப்பதுபோல் இப்படிப்பட்ட ஆசாரங்களைக் கொடுத்திருக்கவில்லை. ஆசாரங்களைப் புஸ்தகத்தில் எழுதிக் கொடுத்திருப்பது பெரிசில்லை; அதை அவர்களே எத்தனையோ ஆயிரம் தலைமுறை வாழ்ந்துகாட்டி, இது நடைமுறை ஸாத்யந்தான் என்று நன்றாக நிரூபித்துவிட்டுப் போயிருக்கிறார்களே, அதுதான் பெரிசு. – ஜகத்குரு ஸ்ரீ சந்திரசேகரேந்திர சரஸ்வதி ஸ்வாமிகள்
By guarding their personal purity, they also helped the society remain pure. In contrast, we are not bothered about vizhuppu or theettu. We believe that we alone are socially conscious, practice brotherhood etc. thereby making ourselves impure and spoiling the society too. For days together we wear the same unwashed clothes, move around in trains and buses thus accumulating all impurities, do not have bath at prescribed times, eat prohibited stuff at hotels, spend our time in novels and cinemas – all against the prescribed dharmas. We may take pride by saying ‘We are very modern; we have left behind superstitions and are progressing smartly’. If we spare a thought, the truth will be very obvious. What is the truth? As compared to our elders who had good health, material prosperity, satisfaction, high intelligence, a magnetic pull, honour and divine experiences, we are somewhere way below. Before we fall into the dilapidated well, we should wake up and start following the path laid down by the sastras. We need not pave any new path. Our elders have paved a path stronger than that of concrete, a path without potholes. Rather than treading a destructive path just for the sake of self pride, we should follow this path of aacharam and protect ourselves. We have not stopped the ‘disservice’ with ourselves. We have corrupted ourselves and the future generations. We have given them the audacity to disregard us more than what we did to our elders and run amuck much more than us. We have almost gone to a situation similar to performing Surya namaskaram after the vision is lost – but still not completely there. There are [medical] cases which have been revived at the last moment with oxygen. We should now start administering the oxygen. We should gain the awareness that we should come out of this derogatory state, this difficult state and should start our efforts earnestly. Other countries may be in [moral] trouble. To imitate them and get into the same trouble is a shameful act. More so because their elders did not prescribe the aacharams for them that our elders have done for us. Our elders have not done a great job by just putting down the aacharams in writing.
