பாத காணிக்கை

ஒரு தவமுனிவர் கோலத்தில் சாட்சாத் சர்வேஸ்வரர் ஸ்ரீஸ்ரீஸ்ரீ மஹாபெரியவாளாய் நம்மிடையே தோன்றி, பிரம்மரிஷி சுகமுனிவரின் மேன்மைக்கு ஒரு இலக்கணமாய் நமக்கு அருள்பாலித்தருளியுள்ளார்.

ஆடுதுறைக்குத் தெற்கே ஒரு கிலோ மீட்டர் தொலைவில் மருத்துவக்குடி என்ற கிராமத்தில் ஸ்ரீ பிரம்ம சந்தான வாத்தியார் என்பவர் அந்த பகுதி காஞ்சிமட முத்திராதிகாரியாக இருந்தார். அவருக்கு ஸ்ரீஸ்ரீஸ்ரீ மஹா பெரியவாளிடம் ஏற்பட்ட அனுபவத்தை அவருடைய மகன் சிலாகித்து விவரிக்கிறார்.

பல வருடங்களுக்கு முன் ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா ஆடுதுறை தர்மசத்திரம்  ஒன்றில் முகாமிட்டு அருள் பரப்பிக் கொண்டிருந்தார். அது ஆனி மாதம். சுற்றுபுற கிராமத்திலிருந்து பக்தர்கள் குவிந்து தினம் தரிசித்து மகிழ்ந்தனர். ஆடுதுறை சுற்றியுள்ள நடராஜபுரம். கோவிந்தபுரம், தியாகராஜபுரம், சாத்தனூர், திருமங்கலக்குடி கிராம பிரமுகர்கள், சமஷ்டி பிட்சை (பலரும் சேர்ந்து பிட்சை அளித்து வழிபாடு) நடத்த ஏற்பாடு செய்திருந்தனர்.

அதே போல் ஈஸ்வரரான ஸ்ரீ பெரியவாளுக்கு தன் கிராமமான மருத்துவக்குடி பக்தர்களாக சேர்ந்து ஒரு சமஷ்டி பிட்சை செய்ய வேண்டுமென்று ஸ்ரீ பிரம்ம சந்தான வாத்தியார் ஆவலுற்றார். இதை உள்ளூர்ப் பிரமுகர்களிடம் கூற அவர்களும் மனமார ஒப்புக்கொண்டனர்.

மறுநாள் காலை ஸ்ரீ பெரியவாளைத் தரிசிக்கவும், இது பற்றி விபரம் அறியவும் சாஸ்திரிகள் தன் மகனுடன் புறப்பட்டார்.

அங்கு இவரைப் பார்த்ததுமே மடத்துக் காரியஸ்தர் “சாஸ்த்திரிகளே நீங்க மருத்துவக்குடி மடத்து முத்திராதிகாரியாக ஒரு நாளைக்கு உங்க ஊர் பிட்சை வெச்சுக்க வேண்டாமோ……வர்ற ஞாயிற்றுக்கிழமை வைச்சிக்கலாமே” என்று இவர் நினைத்துக் கொண்டுபோனதையே மடத்து காரியஸ்தர் கேட்க இவருக்கு வியப்பு.

நானும் அதைக் கேட்டுண்டு போகலாம்னு தான் வந்தேன். நீங்க சொல்றாப் போல ஞாயிற்றுக்கிழமையே பண்றோம். ஆமாம் அதுக்கெல்லாம் எத்தனை செலவாகும்னு எனக்குத் தெரியலை. சொன்னா அதுக்கு தகுந்தாப்போல வசூல் செய்யலாம் என்றார் சாஸ்திரிகள்.

காரியஸ்தர் சிரித்துக்கொண்டே “சொல்றேன், மடத்துக் காணிக்கையா 250 ரூபாய் கட்டிடணும். அப்புறம் தேங்காய், பழம், காய்கறின்னு வாங்கிண்டு வந்த செலவு, எல்லாம் முடிஞ்சி பிரசாதம் வாங்கிக்கிறச்சே உங்க வசதிப்படி பாத சமர்ப்பணை பண்ணலாம். அப்படி இப்படின்னு ஐநூறு, அறுநூறு ரூபாய் ஆயிடும்…….உங்க ஊர்லே வசூல் ஆகுமில்லே?” என்றார் சந்தேகமாக,

உடனே இவர் “பேஷா ஆயிடும்” என்றார். ஆனால் அதில் ஒரு சந்தேகம் இவருக்கு இருந்தது. அதனால் “ஆமாம் பாத சமர்ப்பணைன்ணு சொன்னீர்களே…. அதுக்கு எத்தனை பணம் தேவைப்படும்னு தெரியலையே…. மத்த ஊர் பக்தா பாத காணிக்கையாக சுமார எத்தனை சமர்ப்பிக்கிறான்னு சொல்லமுடியுமா?”

“500 ரூபாயிலிருந்து 1000 ரூபாய் வரை வைப்பா” என்று பதில் வரவே சாஸ்திரிகளுக்கு பாதகாணிக்கை என்பது குறைந்த பட்சம் ஐநூறு என்று தெரியலானது. சாஸ்திரிகள் மனதில் ஒரு கணக்கு போட்டபடி எத்தனை வசூலாகும் என்று யோசனையில் ஆழ்ந்துவிட்டார்.”

கணக்கிட்டபடி அத்தனை வசூலாகுமா என்ற சந்தேகத்தில் எழுந்த கவலையோடு, ஸ்ரீ பெரியவாளின் அனுக்ரஹம் இருந்தால் எல்லாம் சாத்யப்படும் என்ற் நம்பிக்கையோடு ஸ்ரீ பெரியவாளைத் தரிசிக்கச் சென்றார்.

ஸ்ரீ பெரியவாளை நமஸ்கரித்து எழுந்தார். பின் தங்கள் ஊர் சார்பாக பிட்ஷாவந்தனம் செய்ய இருப்பதாகக் கூறி அதற்கு ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா அருள்புரிய வேண்டி விண்ணப்பித்தார்.

“பேஷா நடக்கட்டுமே” ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா தன் திருவாக்கு மலர அனுக்ரஹித்தார். “தனியாக பண்றாப்போல ஊரிலே தனிகாள்லாம் (பணக்காரார்கள்) இருக்காளா “ என்று கேட்டார்.

“மூணு நாலு பேரு இருந்தா. அதிலே ரெண்டு மூணுபேர் மெட்ராஸ் போயிட்டா. ஊர்லே எல்லோரும் சேர்ந்து தான் பிட்ஷாவந்தனம் பண்றதா உத்தேசம்…பெரியவா அனுக்ரஹிக்கணும்” என்று சாஸ்திரிகள் கேட்டுக் கொண்டார்.

புன்னகை தவழும் திருமுகத்தோடு இரு கரங்களையும் தூக்கி ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா ஆசி பொழிந்தருளினார்.

ஞாயிற்றுக்கிழமைக்கு இன்னும் நான்கு நாட்களே இருந்தன. சாஸ்திரிகள் வசூலை ஆரம்பித்தார். மூன்று அக்ரஹாரத்திலும் சேர்ந்து 30 வீடுகள் இருக்கும். வியாழக்கிழமை மாலை வரை வசூல் தொடர்ந்தது. முற்றிலும் வசூலான தொகை ரூபாய் நானூறாய் இருந்தது. ஊரிலிருந்த மற்ற வைதீகர்களும் சேர்ந்து நூறு ரூபாய் சமர்ப்பித்தனர். ஆக மொத்தவசூல் ரூபாய் 500. இது பிட்ஷவந்தனம் செய்ய போதுமானது.

இனி ஸ்ரீ பெரியவாளின் பாத காணிக்கைக்குத்தான் பணம் வேண்டும். ஆனால் அதுவே குறைந்தபட்சம் 500 என்று இவருக்குத் தெரிந்திருந்தது. பாதகாணிக்கை என்பது அவரவர் சக்திகேற்ப செய்யலாம் என்றாலும் கூட மற்ற ஊர்க்காரார்கள் இதுவரை செய்திருக்கும் குறைந்த பட்ச தொகையையாவது சமர்ப்பிப்பதுதானே கவுரவம். அதற்கே ஐநூறு தேவைப்படுகிறதே என்றெல்லாம் கவலை மேலிட சாஸ்திகளுக்கு இந்தத் தொகை எப்படிக் கிடைக்கும், யாரிடம் கேட்பது என்று அன்று இரவு முழுவதும் யோசித்து யோசித்துத் தூக்கம் கெட்டுப்போனது.

வெள்ளிக்கிழமை ஸ்ரீ பெரியவாளைத் தரிசிக்கச் சென்றார். சத்திரத்துவாசலில் கீற்றுக் கொட்டகையில் அமர்ந்தபடி ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா தரிசனம் அருள பக்தர்கள் கூட்டம் அலைமோதியது. சாஸ்திரிகள் தன் மகனோடு ஒரு ஓரமாகத் தயங்கியபடி நின்றார்.

திடீரென்று கருணைக்கடலாம் ஸ்ரீ பெரியவாளின் அருட்பார்வை இவர்மீது வீச “ சந்தானம்! ஏன் அங்கேயே நின்னுண்டுருக்கே….கிட்டே வாயேன்” என்று  அபயமளிப்பதுபோல் ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா அழைத்தார்.

இவருக்கு மெய்சிலிர்ப்பு உண்டாயிற்று.

சாஷ்டாங்கமாக நமஸ்கரித்து எழுந்தார்.

“என்ன நேத்தி கண்ணிலே படலே? ஊர்லே வைதீக ஜோலியா?” என்று ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா கேட்டார்.

“அதெல்லாமில்லே…ஞாயிற்றுக்கிழமை பிட்ஷாவந்தனம் ஏற்பாடு பண்ணியிருக்கேனே…. அதனாலேதான்” என்று இவர் முடிப்பதற்குள் ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா இடை மறித்து “அது சரி! நிதானமா லௌகீகமெல்லாம் எதிர்பார்த்தபடி பூர்த்தி ஆச்சோல்யோ” என்று ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா பணம் சேர்ந்ததா என்பதை சிரித்தபடி கேட்டார்.

இவர் வாய் திறப்பதற்குள் எதையோ புரிந்துக் கொண்டவர்போல “ஓண்ணும் கவலைப்படாதே! சந்திரமௌலீஸ்வரர் கிருபையாலே எல்லாம் நீ நினைச்சுண்டு இருக்கிறப்படியே நடக்கும்” வார்த்தைகளால் ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா வருடினார். பின் தீடீரென்று “இந்த ஊர் காவிரி நதியிலே இப்போ நிறைய ஜலம் போறதா தெரியுமா உனக்கு” என்று சம்பந்தமில்லாமல் ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா கேட்டார்.

“போயிண்டிருக்கு பெரியவா” பொதுவான விடையாக இவர் கூற ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா “ அது சரி நீ எப்போ காவிரி ஸ்நானத்துக்கு போயிருந்தே?” என்றார்.

“ஜலம் போறதா தெரியுமா” ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா

அப்போது ஒரு பக்தர் “இன்னிக்கு கார்த்தாலே நான் ஸ்நானம் பண்ணினேன். சுமாராதான் ஓடறது” என்றார்.

“சுமாரான்னா…புரியலையே…. அமிழ்ந்து ஸ்நானம் பண்றாப்பலே போறாதா எனக்கு தெரிஞ்சாகணும்….நீ ஒரு கார்யம் பண்ணு நாளைக்கு விடிய காலம்பர காவிரி ஸ்நானத்துக்குப்போ…… நன்னா முங்கி ஸ்நானம் பண்றாப்போல ஓடறாதுன்னு பார்த்துண்டு வந்து சொல்லு” என்று சொல்லிவிட்டு விசுக்கென்று எழுந்து உள்ளே சென்றுவிட்டார்.

தான் காவிரி ஸ்நானம் செய்வதற்குத்தான் ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா இத்தனை விபரங்கள் கேட்கிறார்போலும் என நினைத்தபடி இவர் ஊர் திரும்பினார். அடுத்த நாள் சனிக்கிழமை பொழுது விடிந்தது. மழை லேசாக தூறிக்கொண்டிருந்தது ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா ஆக்ஞைப் படி ஸ்நானத்துக்குப் புறப்பட்டார்.

காலை 7 மணி காவிரிக்கரையில் இவரையும் இவர் மகனையும் தவிர ஈ, காக்கை இல்லை. காவிரியில் இறங்கினர். “நல்லா மூழ்கி ஸ்நானம் பண்றாப்பலே ஜலம் ஓடறதே, பெரியவா கிட்டே சொல்லணும்” என்றபடி உரத்த குரலில் ஸ்நான சங்கல்ப மந்திரங்களை சொல்ல ஆரம்பித்தபோது கரையிலிருந்து ஒரு குரல் “ சாஸ்திரிகளே! கொஞ்சம் இருங்கோ….. நானும் வந்துடறேன்…..எனக்கும் சங்கல்பம் பண்ணி வையுங்கோ” கேட்டது.

சுமார் 55 வயதுக்காரர் ஒருவர் ஆற்றில் இறங்கி வந்துக்கொண்டிருந்தார். முன்பின் அவரை இவர்கள் பார்த்த்தில்லை. அவருக்கு சங்கல்பம் செய்வித்தார்கள். பின் ஸ்நானம் முடிந்து கரை ஏறினர். உடைகளை மாற்றிக் கொண்டு வந்த அந்த நபர் இவருக்கு சங்கல்ப தட்சணையாக ஐந்து ரூபாயைத் தந்தார்.

“எனக்கும் மருத்துவக்குடி தான் பூர்விகம். அப்பாவழி தாத்தா வெங்கடாஜல ஐயருக்கு மருத்துவக்குடியிலே சொந்த வீடு இருந்தது. எங்க தாத்தாவுக்கு அப்புறம் எல்லோரும் பம்பாய் போயிட்டோம். திருநீலக்குடிக்கு பக்கத்திலே மேலூர்” சந்திரமௌலீஸ்வரன் சுவாமிதான் எங்கள் குலதெய்வம். நீ எப்போ ஊருக்குப் போனாலும் ஆடுதுறை காவிரியிலே ஸ்நானம் பண்ணிட்டுவான்னு அம்மா சொல்லுவா. குடும்ப கேஸ் விஷயமா தஞ்சாவூர் போயிண்டிருக்கேன். இன்னிக்கு சங்கல்பத்தோட காவிரி ஸ்நானம் கிடைச்சது என் பாக்யம்” என்றார். பின் அது சரி இந்த ஊர்லே இன்னிக்கு என்ன விசேஷம்? எல்லாரும் மடிசார், பஞ்சகச்சம்னு கட்டிண்டு போயிண்டிருக்காளே என்றுக் கேட்டார்.

“ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா முகாம்…..அவாளைத் தரிசிக்கத்தான் இந்தக் கூட்டம். நாளைக்கு ஞாயிற்றுக்கிழமை. நம்ப ஊர் சார்பா பெரியவாளுக்கு பிட்ஷாவந்தனம் ஏற்பாடு ஆயிண்டிருக்கு” என்றார் சாஸ்திரிகள்.

“ஆஹா என் பாக்யம்! கேட்கவே சந்தோஷமா இருக்கு. நம்ப ஊர் பிட்ஷாவந்தனத்திலே கலந்துக்க ஆபூர்வமா சந்தர்ப்பம் கிடைச்சுதே! ஆனா நான் கேஸ் விஷயமா போறதாலே தரிசிக்க வர முடியாத நிலை. என் குடும்பம் சார்பா இதை பிட்ஷவந்தனத்திலே உங்க கையாலே சேர்த்துடுங்கோ” என்றபடி ஒரு கவரில் ரூபாய்களை போட்டு இவரிடம் கொடுத்தார்.

சாஸ்திரிகள் ஒன்றும் புரியாமல் நின்றார்.

“நான் போயிட்டு வர்றேன்” என்று புறப்பட்டவரிடம்

“உங்க நாமதேயம்” என்று அவர் பெயரைக் கேட்டார்.

அவர் சொன்ன அந்த பெயர் “ சந்திரமௌலீ” என்று கேட்டதும் இவருக்கு மெய்சிலிர்த்தது. அந்த மெய்சிலிர்ப்பு அவர் தந்த கவரைப் பிரித்து அந்த பணத்தை எண்ணியதும் இரட்டிப்பானது. பாத காணிக்கைக்குத் தேவைப்பட்ட அதே ஐநூறு ரூபாய்களே!

“அந்த சந்திரமௌலீஸ்வரர் அனுக்ரஹிப்பார்” என்று அருளியது அப்படியே நிறைவேறியதை உணர்ந்த சாஸ்திரிகளுக்குக் கண்களில் உணர்ச்சி பெருக்கு.

ஞாயிற்றுக்கிழமை பிட்ஷாவந்தனம் முடிந்து ஸ்ரீ பெரியவாளுக்குப் பாத காணிக்கை சமர்ப்பித்தபோது அந்த பழத்தட்டை உற்று நோக்கிய பெரியவா “சந்திரமௌலீஸ்வரர் கிருபையாலே உன் இஷ்டப்படி பூர்த்தி ஆயிருக்கோல்யோ” என்று சாட்சாத் சந்திர மௌலீஸ்வரர் தானே என்பதை தெய்வம் உணர்த்திட்டார்.

அருட்புதையல்

அன்று பாத காணிக்கையை சமர்ப்பிக்க ஒரு பக்தர் சிரத்தையோடும் ஆதங்கத்தோடும் எண்ணியபோது அதற்குத்  தானே அனுக்ரஹித்து ஏற்றுக் கொண்டதுபோல இன்றளவும் ஸ்ரீ மகானின் சக்தி அதை மெய்ப்பித்துக் கொண்டுள்ளது என்பதை ஸ்ரீ பெரியவாளின் பக்தை திருமதி சந்திரா சொல்லும் சம்பவத்தில் புதைந்துள்ளது.

ஆழ்மனதின் நம்பிக்கை. சமர்ப்பிக்க வேண்டுமே என்ற சிரத்தை. கிடைக்கவில்லையே என்ற ஆதங்கம். இவை மூன்றும் கலந்த மனக்கலக்கத்தோடுதான் அன்று காஞ்சிபுரம் நோக்கி திருமதி சந்திரா மற்றும் அவருடைய தாயார், இன்னும் ஒரு தம்பியினர் புறப்பட்டனர்.

அவர்கள் காஞ்சியை நோக்கி செல்வது, சதாசர்வகாலமும் ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா நினைவின்றி வேறில்லை என்ற தீவிர உள்வேட்கையினால் நாயன்மாரெனும் சீரிய பதவியுடன் அருளும் பிரம்மஸ்ரீ பிரதோஷம் மாமாவின் ஸ்ரீபெரியவா திருக்கோயிலுக்குத்தான்.

திருமதி சந்திராவின் தகப்பனார், திரு மீனாட்சி சுந்திரம் அவர்கள் ஸ்ரீ பெரியவாளிடமும், பிரதோஷம் மாமாவிடமும் அளவிலா பக்தியும் அன்பும் கொண்ட பண்பாளர். பிரதோஷம் மாமா இல்லக்கோயிலில் நடக்கும் அனைத்து வைபவங்களிலும் பெரும் பங்கு கொண்டவர். ஸ்ரீ பெரியவாளின் வருட ஜயந்தி கொண்டாட்டங்களின் ஒரு அங்கமான சுபாஷிணி பூஜைக்காக தன் பங்காக தன்னாலான சில புடவைகளை சேர்த்து மகிழ்வார்.

தன் கணவரின் வழியிலேயே இவ்வருட ஜயந்திக்கும் இரண்டு ஒன்பதுகஜம் புடவைகளை இவர் தாயார் சென்று வாங்கினார். அவைகளை மாட்டுப்பெண்ணிடம் கொடுத்து வீட்டில் வைக்கச் சொல்லிவிட்டு, மற்ற மங்கள திரவியங்களான மஞ்சள், குங்குமம், தேங்காய், வெற்றிலை, பாக்கு, பழம் இவைகளை வாங்கியாயிற்று. பூமாலை மட்டும் வாங்கவில்லை. அந்த 11 மணி மதியவேலையில் நல்ல பூமாலையாக்க் கிடைக்கவில்லை. மேலும் புறப்பட்டு காஞ்சிபுரம் செல்லும் வழியில் எங்காவது புத்தம்புது பூவாய் சாயங்காலம் வாங்கிக் கொள்ளலாம் என்ற நம்பிக்கை!

வழி நெடுக பார்த்தாயிற்று. எப்போதும் பூக்காரிகள் தென்படுவதுபோல அன்று காணவேயில்லை. அடடா! பூ கிடைக்கவேயில்லையே என்று வழிநெடுக மனம் அங்கலாய்த்தது. ஆனாலும் ஒரு இடத்திலும் இல்லை. மறந்துபோய் பிரதோஷம் மாமா இல்லம் பக்கத்தில் கிடைக்கும் என்று இப்படியே அன்று பூவை வாங்கவிடாமல் ஈஸ்வர்ரின் சோதனையாக மன வருத்தம் மட்டும் மிஞ்சியது.

இப்படி மங்கள திரவியங்களில் முக்கியமான பூச்சரம் விடுபட்டு விட்டதே என்று மன உளைச்சலோடுதான் பிரதோஷம் மாமியின் அன்பான வரவேற்புடன் ஸ்ரீ பெரியவா சன்னதியின் முன் புடவைகள் மற்றும் இதர பொருள்களை எடுத்து வைக்கும் போதும், பூ இல்லையே என்ற குறை மட்டும் பெரும் உறுத்தலாக மனதுள் ஓடிக் கொண்டிருந்தது.

பை, கூடையிலிருந்து எல்லா பொருள்களையும் எடுத்து வைத்தாயிற்று. தாங்கள் வாங்கிய அனைத்தும் அவ்வளவே தான்… நன்றாகத் தெரிகிறது… அப்படியும் அடியில் அது என்ன ஒரு பாலிதீன் பொட்டலம்? இதை யாரும் வாங்கவே இல்லையே என்ற மனதில் எண்ணியபடி அதை எடுத்துப் பிரித்தபோது அதனுள் ஸ்ரீ பெரியவாளின் பூர்ண அனுக்ரஹமாக ஒரு அதிசயம் புதைந்திருந்தது.

ஆம்! இவர்கள் ஆதங்கப்பட்டு, சிரமப்பட்டு, சிரத்தையாக தேடிக் கிடைக்காமல் ஏங்கிய அதே பூக்கள். அதுவும் புத்தம் புதிதான தாமரைகளும், மல்லிகைகளும் சேர்ந்து தொடுக்கப்பட்ட பூமாலை!

நீ வாங்கினயா? நீ வாங்கினயா? என்ற கேள்விகளுக்கு ஒருவர் மாற்றி ஒருவர் இல்லை என்று பதிலளிக்க, உண்டு என் சாந்நித்யம் இங்கே என்பது போல பிரம்மஸ்ரீ பிரதோஷம் மாமாவின் இல்லக்கோயிலில் குடி கொண்டிருக்கும் ஸ்ரீஸ்ரீஸ்ரீ பெரியவா மெல்லிய புன்னகையோடு அருள்பாலித்து விடையளிப்பதாக இவர்கள் மனதில் தோன்றியது.

‘எங்களின் ஒளி நீ தானே’ என இந்த அனுபவங்களை பக்தை பகிர்ந்து கொள்கிறார். எங்கும் நிறை அருள் ஒளியால் நாமும் நம் சரணகதியால் எல்லா அனுக்ரஹங்களும் பெற்று நல்வாழ்வு வாழ்வோமாக!

“Padha Kanikkai”

Shri Mahaperiyava, who is the avatar of Shri Adi Shankara, due to His kindness, to bless all the people, like a Sugabrahma Rishi Saint, took avatar as Shri Shri Shri Mahaperiyava, walked this earth and blessed us.

There is a village called Maruthuvakudi, one km South of Aduthurai. Shree Brahma Santhana Vathiyar, who was residing there, was the Mudradhikari for Srimatam in that area. His son explains the divine experiences of his father with Periyava.

Many years ago, during the month of Aani, Periyava was camping at Aduthurai. All the devotees from nearby villages like Natarajapuram, Govindapuram, Thyagarajapuram, Sathanur, Thirumangalakudi had planned to do Samashti Bikshavandanam (a Bikshavandanam by a group of people).

Similarly, Shree Brahma Santhana Vathiyar wanted to do a Samashti Bikshavandanam along with the devotees in his village. He discussed with the villagers and they all agreed.

The next day he started to have darshan of Periyava and also to find out the details of the Bikshavandanam along with his son.

When the Srimatam manager saw Shree Brahma Santhana Vathiyar, he asked him as the Mudradhikari, how come he has not organized Bikshavandanam, and also suggested to have it the following Sunday.

Surprised, he said that he had come that day to collect the details for the same. He also asked how much it will cost totally, so that they can collect the amount from the villagers accordingly.

The manager replied that the amount will be Rs. 250 for Srimatam, then there will be some cost for coconut, fruits and vegetables and finally when the prasadam is distributed, you could offer some padha kanikkai (donation). It might come to be around Rs. 500 to Rs. 600. Will you be able to collect that much amount?

Shree Brahma Santhana Vathiyar replied positively that the amount will be collected. He also asked the amount to be given as padha kanikkai or usually how much do the devotees from other villages offer.  %s. 500 to 1000 came the reply. He understood that 500 should be the minimum amount and started working on calculating the total amount and what will be the contribution from each of the devotees at the village.

He was worried if he will be able to collect that much money, but consoled himself saying that Periyava will take care of everything. He proceeded for Periyava’s darshan. He prostrated before Periyava and informed about the Bikshavandanam on Sunday and requested Periyava’s blessings for the same.

Periyava gave His blessings and asked if the village had rich people for the Bikshavandanam. Shree Brahma Santhana Vathiyar replied saying that there were 3 or 4 before and they have moved to Madras now. He also informed Periyava that all the devotees in the village have planned to contribute for the Bikshavandanam and requested for His blessings again. Periyava raised both His hands and blessed.

There were four more days to go for Sunday and the collection started. By Thursday around Rs. 400 were collected. All the Vaidehaas in the village contributed Rs. 100 and the total collection was now Rs. 500. He knew that the amount for the Bikshavandanam was ready. Now around Rs. 500 more was needed for padha kanikkai.

Even though there was no set amount for Padha Kanikkai, since the other villages had offered Rs. 500 or more, Shree Brahma Santhana Vathiyar wanted his village also to at least contribute the minimum amount. He started to worry about it and was unable to sleep that night.

On Friday, Shree Brahma Santhana Vathiyar went for Periyava’s darshan along with his son. There were lot of devotees waiting for Periyava’s darshan.

Suddenly Periyava’s eyes rested on Shree Brahma Santhana Vathiyar and He called him. Vathiyar was so happy and went ahead and prostrated before Periyava.

Periyava asked why he did not come the previous day and if he was busy with work.

Vathiyar replied that he was busy arranging for the Bikshavandanam. But before he could complete, Periyava interrupted and asked if he was able to arrange the necessary things. But before Vathiyar could reply, Periyava again interrupted and said not to worry and Chandramouleeswarar will take care of all the things.

Periyava suddenly jumped to another topic and asked if the Cauvery river nearby was flowing. Vathiyar replied that it was flowing and then Periyava asked when he went there for snanam.

Vathiyar replied, “A week before”.

Periyava asked, “Can we see the water flowing?”

Another devotee standing nearby answered, “I was there today morning, and there is not much water there”.

Periyava asked, “Is there enough water to immerse ourselves fully and complete the snanam?” He continued saying to Shree Brahma Santhana Vathiyar, “Go to Cauvery tomorrow and check if snanam could be performed by immersing ourselves completely”. He said this and went inside.

Vathiyar returned back to his village. He assumed that Periyava was asking this so that He could go for Cauvery snanam. The next day morning, it was drizzling and Vathiyar started to go to Cauvery.

It was 7 am in the morning and no one was there. Vathiyar and his son got ready for the snanam. When he started to do the sankalpam, a voice was heard. A 55 year old came running that side and asked Vathiyar to do the sankalpam for him also.

After sankalpam and snanam was complete, all the three came out. After changing his dress, the 55 year old came Rs. 5 as dakshinai to Vathiyar. He continued to say, “Maruthuvakudi is my ancestral village. My paternal grandfather Venkatachala Iyer had house here. After him, the family moved to Mumbai. The Chandramouleeswarar temple at Melur near Thiruneelakudi is our kula deivam. My mother had asked me to bathe in Cauvery near Aduthurai whenever I visit here. I came to Thanjavur for a family legal matter and I got the opportunity to perform my snanam with sankalpam”. He continued to ask, “Is there any special event happening here? I see everyone in their Madisar and Panchakacham”.

Vathiyar replied, “Periyava is camping here. Everyone is preparing for the Bikshavandanam tomorrow”.

“What a blessing. This is a rare opportunity for me to participate in the Bikshavandanam organized by my village. Since I will not be here on Sunday, can you please offer this as the contribution from our family?” Saying this he handed over an envelope to Vathiyar. Shree Brahma Santhana Vathiyar was surprised and confused.

As he started to leave, Shree Brahma Santhana Vathiyar asked for his name. “Chandramouli” came the reply. Shree Brahma Santhana Vathiyar was thrilled at hearing the name and it doubled when he checked the amount to be Rs. 500 in the envelope. Shree Brahma Santhana Vathiyar remembered Periyava’s blessing “Chandramouleeswarar will take care of it”.

On Sunday after the Bikshavandanam, Periyava looked at the plate with flowers and fruits and asked, “By the grace of Chandramouleeswarar, I hope everything went like the way you had wanted”.

Divine Treasure

Just like how Periyava fulfilled the padha kanikkai wishes of a devotee back in those days, through another devotee Shrimathi Chandra, He shows that He is still blessing the devotees in a similar way even today.

Chandra was travelling to Kanchipuram with her mother and another couple. Her mind was filled with a deeply driven belief, devotion to submit and feeling of frustration that her wishes are not fulfilled. They were going to Kanchipuram for darshan of Periyava at Pradosham Mama’s house.

Shri Meenakshi Sundaram, father of Shrimathi Chandra was a devotee of Periyava and Pradosham Mama. He actively participated in all the events conducted at Pradosham Mama’s house. He used to offer sarees for the Suhasini Pooja that was conducted as a part of Periyava’s annual Jayanthi events.

In her husband’s footsteps, Chandra’s mother bought two “Onbathu Gajam” (nine yards) sarees. She also got other Pooja items like turmeric, kumkumam, coconut, betel leaves and fruits. Only flowers and garlands were pending. It was 11 0 clock  and there were no fresh flowers available. She wanted to buy them fresh somewhere on the way to Kanchipuram.

There were no flower shops on the way. They missed to buy it at one place, assuming there will be more stores near Pradosham Mama’s house. But at last they reached without buying the garlands.

They were depressed by the absence of the flowers. This feeling did not subside even when Pradosham Mami welcomed them warmly and it doubled when they kept the sarees and other items before Periyava.

They had removed all the items from their bag and they realized all of them had been placed before Periyava. But still there was a polythene bag inside. They very well knew that they had not brought any more items. So with curiosity they picked the bag and opened it. They were surprised to find a garland inside. It was a special one made of new and fresh lotus and jasmine flowers.

As everyone kept asking others if they had purchased the garland, Periyava was smiling from Pradosham Mama’s Pooja indicating that He is still there blessing each if His devotees.

Shrimathi Chandra shares this incident and calls Periyava as their light. Let us all pray and surrender to Periyava and be blessed with the light of happiness and peace.
