தர்மம் சாஸ்திர ஸ்வரூபம்

1994-ம் வருடம் ஜனவரி 8-ம் தேதி, ‘அனைத்து சாலைகளும் காஞ்சியை நோக்கி’ என்று சொல்லும்படி காஞ்சியை நோக்கி வாகனங்கள் சாரிசாரியாகச் சென்றன. நகரத்துக்குள் பிரவேசிக்க முடியாதபடி ஜனத்திரள்; வாகன நெரிசல். அன்றைய தினம் போல் என்றைக்குமே முக்கியப் பிரமுகர்கள் ஒருசேர காஞ்சிக்கு வந்ததே இல்லை. மடாதிபதிகளும், ஆன்மிக அறிஞர்களும், பிரதான அமைச்சர்களும், அரசாங்க அதிகாரிகளும், பல்துறை சார்ந்த அறிஞர் பெருமக்களும் அன்று மதியம் முதலே  காஞ்சியை நோக்கி வந்த வண்ணம் இருந்தனர். ஆனால், அத்தனைபேர் முகங்களிலும் மகிழ்ச்சிக்கு மாறாக கனத்த சோகமும் அடர்த்தியான மௌனமுமே காணப்பட்டது. ஆம். அன்றுதான் ‘நடமாடும் தெய்வம்’, ‘பரமாசார்யார்’, ‘காஞ்சி முனிவர்’ என்றெல்லாம் அனைத்துத் தரப்பினராலும் போற்றி வணங்கப் பெற்ற காஞ்சி மகான் மகா சமாதி அடைந்த நாள்.

ஆன்மிக உலகத்துக்கே பேரிழப்பு நிகழ்ந்த அந்த நாளில், ஆன்மிகவாதிகள் மட்டுமல்ல, கடவுள் நம்பிக்கையே இல்லாதவர்களும்கூட அந்த மகானின் மகத்துவத்தைப் பலவாறாகப் போற்றி அஞ்சலி செலுத்தினர்.

அனைத்துத் தரப்பினராலும் போற்றப்பெற்ற காஞ்சி மகான், தர்மசாஸ்திரங்களின் திரண்ட வடிவமாகவே விளங்கினார். தர்ம சாஸ்திரங்களின் திரண்ட வடிவமாக அவர் இருந்த காரணத்தினால்தான், தர்ம சாஸ்திரங்கள் என்றைக்கும் அழியாதிருக்கும்படி ஓர் அருளாடல் நிகழ்த்தியுள்ளார்.

சுமார் 40 அல்லது 45 வருடங்களுக்கு முன் நடந்த அருளாடல் அது…

கல்கத்தாவைச் சேர்ந்த பணக்காரர். மன்சூக் மோகன். அவருக்கு உணவுப் பாதையில் கோளாறு ஏற்பட்டது. பல மருத்துவர்கள் சிகிச்சை செய்தும் பலன் கிடைக்கவில்லை. வயிற்றின் ஒருபுறத்தில் துவாரம் செய்து, குழாயின் மூலம் உணவைப் புகட்டி வந்தார்கள். வேதனையில் துடித்துக்கொண்டிருந்தார்.

அப்பொழுது நாட்டின் பல இடங்களில் உபந்நியாசங்கள் செய்து பக்தி மணம் பரப்பி வந்த ஶ்ரீமுக்கூர் ஶ்ரீநிவாச வரதாசாரிய சுவாமிகள் கல்கத்தாவில் உபந்நியாசம் செய்துகொண்டிருந்தார்.  தினசரி உபந்நியாசம் கேட்க வந்த மன்சூக் மோகன், முக்கூரார் உபந்நியாசத்தின் தொடக்கத்தில், காஞ்சி பரமாசார்ய சுவாமிகளின் தவவலிமையையும், அவரது மகிமைகளையும் கூறிய பின்பே உபந்நியாசம் தொடங்குவதைப் பார்த்தார். அவரை அறியாமலேயே பரமாசார்ய சுவாமிகளிடம் பக்தியும், ஈடுபாடும் கொள்ளத் தொடங்கிய மன்சூக் மோகன், முக்கூர் ஶ்ரீநிவாச வரதாசாரிய சுவாமிகளிடம் சென்று, தம்மையும், தம்மை வருத்தி வரும் நோய் பற்றியும் கூறியதுடன், “பரமாசார்ய சுவாமிகளால் மட்டுமே என்னைக் காப்பாற்ற முடியும். எப்படியாவது நான் அவரைத் தரிசிக்க வேண்டும். தாங்கள்தான் அன்புகூர்ந்து ஆவன செய்ய வேண்டும்” என்று வேண்டிக்கொண்டார்.

அதை மறுக்க முடியாத முக்கூரார், காஞ்சி முனிவரைத் தரிசித்து, மன்சூக் மோகனைப் பற்றிக் கூறினார். ஆரம்பத்தில், “இப்போது வேண்டாமே” என்று மறுத்துவிட்டார் பரமாசார்ய சுவாமிகள். எனினும், மன்சூக் மோகனின் தொடர்ந்த வற்புறுத்தலால் அவரை சென்னைக்கு வரவழைத்த முக்கூரார், அப்பொழுது சென்னை நகருக்கு அருகாமையில் முகாமிட்டிருந்த பரமாசார்ய சுவாமிகளைத் தரிசித்து வணங்கினார். அதேபோல் மன்சூக் மோகனும் சாஷ்டாங்கமாக விழுந்து வணங்கினார்.

முக்கூராரை ஒருமுறை ஏற இறங்கப் பார்த்தார் காஞ்சி முனிவர். அவரது பார்வையிலேயே, ‘நான்தான் இப்போதைக்கு வேண்டாம் என்று சொல்லியிருந்தேனே’ என்று கூறுவதைப் புரிந்துகொண்ட முக்கூரார், மன்சூக் மோகன் பரமாசார்ய சுவாமிகளிடம் கொண்டிருந்த ஆழ்ந்த பக்தியையும், சுவாமிகளைத் தரிசித்தே ஆக வேண்டும் என்ற மன்சூக்மோகனின் விருப்பத்தையும் தெரிவித்தார்.
பரமாசார்ய சுவாமிகள் முக்கூராரைத் தமக்கு அருகில் வருமாறு பணித்தார்.

“நான் சொல்கிறபடி அவன் செய்வானா?” என்று கேட்டார்.

“செய்வார். செய்யச் சொல்கிறேன்.”

“அப்படியானால், நமது வேத சாஸ்திரங்களில் உள்ள பதினெட்டு புராணங்களையும், தனித்தனியாகப் பதினெட்டு புத்தகங்களாக சமஸ்கிருதத்தில் நல்ல விதத்தில் பிரிண்ட் போட்டு, வேத சாஸ்திரங்களில் தகுதி பெற்ற பண்டிதர்களுக்கு இனாமாகத் தரவேணும். இதற்கு நிறைய செலவாகும். செய்வானா என்று கேட்டுச் சொல்” என்றார் பரமாசார்ய சுவாமிகள். சுவாமிகள் தமக்கோ அல்லது ஶ்ரீமடத்திற்கென்றோ எதுவும் கேட்கவில்லை. சமூக நலனுக்குக் கவசம் போல் திகழும் தர்ம சாஸ்திரங்களை ரட்சிக்கவேண்டும் என்பதே  அவரது நோக்கம்.

மன்சூக் மோகனிடம் பரமாசார்ய சுவாமிகளின் கட்டளையைத் தெரிவித்தார் முக்கூரார்.  உடனே மிகவும் சந்தோஷமாக இப்பணியைச் செவ்வனே முடிப்பதாகக் கூறிய மன்சூக் மோகன், பரமாசார்ய சுவாமிகளைக் கரம்கூப்பி, கண்ணீர் மல்கத் தொழுது, மகானின் அருளாசிகளுடன் பிரசாதமும் பெற்று கல்கத்தா திரும்பினார். பரமாசார்யர் கூறிய பணியை நிறைவேற்றுவதிலும் ஆர்வத்துடன் ஈடுபட்டுவிட்டார்.

பதினேழு புராணங்களை அவர் நல்ல முறையில் உயர்ந்த தாளில் அச்சிட்டு தகுதியுள்ளவர்களுக்கு வழங்கினார். புத்தகங்களில் நூலின் விலை என்ற பகுதியில் ‘பிரேம்’ (அன்பு) என்று குறிப்பிட்டிருந்தார்.

பதினேழு புராணங்களை இவ்விதம் அச்சிட்டு கொடுத்த பிறகும் அவரது நோயில் எந்த மாற்றமும் இல்லை. ஆயினும், அவர் தனக்கு ஏற்பட்ட நோய் குறைந்து கொண்டிருக்கிறதா? இனி குறையுமா? என்றெல்லாம் பார்க்காமல், பரமாசார்ய சுவாமிகளிடம் ஆழ்ந்த நம்பிக்கையும், பக்தியும் கொண்டு பதினெட்டாவது புராணமாக ஶ்ரீஸ்கந்த புராணத்தை அச்சிடும் பணியைத் தொடர்ந்தார். ஶ்ரீஸ்கந்த புராணம் அச்சிடும் பணி தொடர்ந்துகொண்டிருந்தபோதே, பரமாசார்ய சுவாமிகளின் அனுகிரகத்தால் மெள்ள மெள்ள அவரது நோய் குறையப்பெற்று பூரண நலம் அடைந்துவிட்டார்.

இந்தத் தகவலை பரமாசார்ய சுவாமிகளிடம் தெரிவித்த முக்கூரார், “தங்களது சக்திதான் அவரைக் காப்பாற்றியது” என்றார். அதற்குப் பதிலாக மகான் சொன்னார்:  “அல்ல. நமது நாட்டின் தர்மசாஸ்திரங்களின் சக்தியே அவரைக் காப்பாற்றியது!”

An Embodiment of Dharma Sastras

(Sharing on the Maha Samadhi Day of Sri Maha Periyavaa) – 8th January 1994.

It looked as though all the roads were leading to Kanchi.  All the vehicles were going towards Kanchi.  The whole town was crowded with thousands of devotees leaving no room for anyone to enter the town.  There was a heavy traffic jam.  Kanchi has never been visited by so many prominent people and dignitaries on a single day.  On that day, Heads of various Mutts, Vedic scholars, prominent ministers, government officials, scholars from various walks of life, all were heading to Kanchi.   None of them seemed happy.  They were all very sad and silent.   Yes.  That was the day when Kanchi Mahan, who was praised and worshipped by everyone as “Nadamadum Deivam”, “Maha Periyavaa”, “Kanchi Munivar” attained Maha samadhi.

It was a great loss to the spiritual world.  Not only devotees but atheists were also praising Maha Periyavaa and paid their respects.

Maha Periyavaa , an embodiment of Dharma Shastras was praised and worshipped by people from all walks of life.  Just because he was the embodiment of Dharma Shastras, he performed a divine miracle to prove that Dharma Shastras will stay forever.

This divine miracle happened around 40 to 50 years ago.

Mansook Mohan was a rich man in Calcutta.  He had some problem in the digestive system.  Many doctors treated him but there was no effect.  He was fed by a tube inserted on one side of his stomach.   He was suffering from severe pain.

That was the period when Sri Mukkur Srinvasa Varadhachariya Swamigal has been touring to various places in India to spread bhakthi through religious discourses.  Once he was giving religious discourses in Calcutta.  Every day, he started his discourse with a talk about Kanchi Maha Periyavaa.  He would talk about Maha Periyavaa’s “tapas” and divine powers.  Mansook Mohan who was attending the lectures every day became very much interested and started developing strong devotion to Maha Periyavaa.   One day, he approached Mukkurar and told him about his disease.   “Only Maha Periyavaa can save me.  Somehow I want to have his darshan.  Please do help me to meet him.” requested Mansook Mohan.

Unable to refuse his request, Mukkurar visited Kanchi Muni and told him about Mansook Mohan.  Initially Maha Periyavaa said “not now”.  However, Mansook Mohan was very persistent.  So Mukkurar asked him to come to Chennai.  At that time, Maha Periyavaa was camping somewhere near Chennai.  Mukkurar took him to visit Maha Periyavaa.  Mukkurar paid his respects by doing namaskaram.  Mansook Mohan also paid his respects by doing sashtanga namaskaram.

Kanchi Muni looked at Mukkurar which implied “I told you not now”.  Mukkurar understood this and explained about Mansook Mohan’s sincere devotion to Maha Periyavaa and his wish to see him.

Maha Periyavaa called Mukkurar near him.

“Will he do whatever I say? Asked Maha Periyavaa.

“Sure.  He will do.  I will tell him to do.”

“Then ask him to get the eighteen puranas mentioned in our Veda shastras; print them in Sanskrit with good quality paper; distribute them to Vedic scholars free of cost.  This will cost a lot.  Will he do? Ask him and let me know” said Maha Periyavaa.  Periyavaa never asked anything for him or for Sri Matam.  His motive was to protect the Dharma Shastras which are the shield to the society.

Mukkurar conveyed Maha Periyavaa’s order.  Mansook Mohan happily agreed to do this job.  With folded hands and tears rolling from his eyes, he stood in front of Maha Periyavaa.  Then with Maha Periyavaa’s blessings and prasadam, Mansook Mohan returned to Calcutta.  Immediately upon his return, with much devotion, he started the work to fulfill the command of Maha Periyavaa.

He managed to get seventeen puranas and printed them in good quality paper.  He distributed them to deserving Vedic scholars.  He never mentioned the price of the book.  Instead he had mentioned “Prem” (love and affection) at the place where book’s price is usually printed.

Even after printing and distributing seventeen puranas, there was no change as far as his disease was concerned.  Mansook Mohan also never thought if there was any improvement or will there be any improvement.  Simply with strong belief and pure devotion to Maha Periyavaa, he commenced the printing work of eighteenth puranam – Sri Skanda Puranam.  As the printing work was going on, by the grace of Maha Periyavaa, he slowly started feeling relief from the disease and after sometime he was completely cured of the disease.

Mukkurar conveyed this news to Maha Periyvaa and said “only your power has saved him”.  Mahan replied “No.  The power of Dharma Shastras saved him”.
